There ore some 5O,OOO ship movemenls in the Singopore Stroits in o yeor, with o significont number onchoring oulside port

limits, often in non designoted onchoroges woiting for orders. Numerous ships onchor woiting to bunker, to moke crew
chonges, to pick up spores or to undergo repoirs.
There is olso on increose in ihe number of ships using the odjocent TSS, pilot boording oreos ond designoted bunkering
onchoroges. There ore opproximotely 400 ships ot onchor ot ony one doy ond oll the onchoroges ore heovily uiilised.
Movements in ond oround these qreqs require extreme coution ond coreful plonning.
ln generol the collisions hove noi been moior, olthough those in the Molocco Stroits hove resulted in mo jor cloims, loss of life
ond pollution. Mosters should be mlndful of the results of o collision whilst using the highly utilised onchoroges. The donger
of onchoring in non designoted onchoroges ond cousing domoge to subseo cobles should olso be considered.

5hip Troffic lnformotion Service
Ship movements ore overseen by the Moritime ond Pori Auihority of Singopore {MPA) Sh;p Troffic lnformotion Service
(WlS) which is odvising oll ships not to onchor in the TSS ond lhe oreo north of the TSS limiis which ore not designoied

WS qnd will be reported to their respective flog odminisiroiions.

Pilots
More pilots ore being recruiied ond troined lo improve the Singopore pilotoge service levels. Pilotoge exemptions ore
olso gronted to mosters who hove successfully compleled the port fomiliorisotion course ond procticol troining on ship
simulotors. Pilotoge exempiions opply to ships up to 5,000 GT ond therefore mosters need to be owore thot there ore olso
