A complex compound sentence consists of two independent clauses (simple sentences) and one or
more dependent clauses.

I didn’t study very hard when I was young, but I passed my exams without any problems.
The job applicant who was interviewed this morning couldn’t speak English very well, so he
didn’t get the job (that) he was applying for.
