Read Lucy’s story about her house

Hello, my name’s Lucy ad I live in a
nice house. It has all modern conveniences:
central heating, gas, electricity, cold and hot
water. There are four rooms, a kitchen, a
bathroom and a hall in our house.
The living-room is the largest and most
comfortable room. In the middle of the room
we have a square-table with six chairs round
it. To the right of it there is a sideboard. At the
opposite wall there is a piano and stool before
it. Between the two large windows there is a
little table with a color TV set on it. Near the
TV set there are two cosy armchairs. A small
round table, a sofa, and a stand lamp are in
the left-hand corner. My father is used to
having a rest sitting on this sofa reading
books, newspapers, magazines or watching
TV. Actually he is rather fond of having a nap
with a newspaper in his hand.

My parents’ bedroom is smaller than
the living-room and not so light as there is
only one window in it. In this room there are
two beds with a bedside-table between them.
An alarm-clock and a small lamp with a light
lamp-shade are on the table. In the left-hand
corner there is my mum’s dressing-table with
a big mirror. I’d love to have one in my room
as well. In this room my parents have a builtin wardrobe with lots of coat-hangers; but as
my mum has lots of clothes my dad says that
they will have to buy one extra wardrobe to
hang mum’s dresses clothes.

There is a thick woolen oriental carpet on
the floor and plain light-brown curtains on
the window.
My bedroom is not large but very
cosy. There isn't much furniture in it, only
the most necessary. It has a writing-table
and an armchair before it. In the righthand corner there is a bookcase full of
books, magazines and newspapers. A
small table with a radio is in the left-hand
corner. Near it there is a sofa with some
cushions and of course my bed. I’ve
decided to have a lacy canopy over it just
as princesses have. In my opinion, my
room is the best room in our house. Of
course we have one extra room for our
guests.
But the warmest place in our house

is the kitchen, I think — the place where
the whole family gathers every evening
not only to have supper together, but also
to speak and rest. Here we have a gasstove, a microwave oven where we heat
our food, a dinner table with chairs and a
cupboard where we keep cups, plates and
all the dishes. The kitchen serves as a
dining-room, but when we receive guests
we have the meals in the living-room. I
like the English proverb: «My home is my
castle» because my house is, indeed, my
castle.

Where do you live? Describe your house? What modern conveniences are there in
your house? How many rooms are there in your house? Which room is the largest?
Describe it. What furniture is there in your flat? Is there a park or a yard near your

house? Do you have a room for yourself? How is your kitchen furnished? Do you
often get together in your living-room?
And now please make up a story about your house. Use as many new words
and expressions as you can.
I live in a …..
We have …… rooms.
My favourite room is….
The coziest place is….
I spend much time in .…
I’d like to have a ….
I always help my mum….. (wash/sweep the floor, clean, polish etc)
