LESSON 2: CLOSER LOOK 1 (P50)
Objectives: By the end of this lesson, students will be able to use lexical items related to
“travel items” and pronounce correctly the sound /t/ and /st/ in isolation and in context.

WARM UP:

Teacher’s activities
Ask Ss about the date, the
weather, their feeling
Ask Ss to play a game “Kim’s
game”.
Ask Ss to answer the
questions about themselves:
1. Do you like travelling?
2. What places do you like to
go to?
3. 4. What things do you need
to bring for traveling?


4. – T says: “There are some
things you need to bring for
travelling. These are the
things you may need”

B. PRONUNCIATION.

Ask a question: Do you need
these things for travelling?
Show a picture of a beach
and tell Ss that: You are
going on a beach holiday
next week. And these are the
things you may need to
bring. Order the items from
very useful (No.1) to not
very useful (No.2) and tell
the reasons for your choices.
Check Ss’ understanding by
asking the following
questions:
1. Where are you going?
2. What are you doing now?
3. Do you give reasons why?
Ask Ss to do this activity in
groups and to give the
reasons for their order.
Call some groups to tell their
order and the reasons for
their choices.
Shows the pictures and says:

Beside going on a beach
holiday, you can go to the
other places such as: a lake,
a mountain, a waterfall, a
desert, a forest,….
Show 2 pictures: desert and

individual.
Copy the words.

Give ideas for sentence

hơn, lúc này đẩy lưỡi nhanh
ra phía trước bật thành

+ /st/: đầu tiên mặt lưỡi
chạm mặt răng trên phía
trong, lưỡi chuyển động đi ra
phía trước, hai hàm răng
đóng lại gần hơn. Khi phát
âm /s/ luồng hơi trong
miệng chà xát, rồi đẩy lưỡi
nhanh ra phía trước bật
thành âm /t/ .

through all the words in
Activity 4.
Play the recording and ask Ss
to number the words in the
order they hear them.

will hear some sentences
having some words with the
sounds /t/ and /st/. Try to

words in the order they

Activity 5: Listen and
repeat.

coming picnic and asks: Do

like this picnic? Do you plan

Role-play in groups.

Activity 6: Plan your own
picnic.

Ask Ss to role-play in groups
to plan their picnic to and
try to use the words with the
sounds /t/ and /st/ as many
as possible.

Act the conversation out.

Call some groups to act out.

CONSOLIDATION
