(Listening) PERIOD 3
1. Aim:
Listening to a conversation
2. Objectives:
By the end of lesson, Ss will be able to:
-talk about their school days following the information in the listening .
- improve listening skill by doing the listening tasks assigned .
3. Materials :
Textbook ,whiteboard markers cassette player,...
4. Anticipated problems :
Ss may have difficulty in understanding some new works in the listening .

Matching
Ask Ss to work in pair and match the words in A with the ones in B to
make goods words

7’ PRE-LISTENING
Ask Ss to work independently and complete the sentences with the words
and phrases given.
Have Ss compare the answers with the friends.
Call on some Ss to read their answers aloud in front of the class .
Feedback and give correct answers :
1. Our teacher always ticks to rules .He is very strict
2. Yesterday I missed the school bus because I overslept
3. My father never hits me with a stick.
4. Jack used to live in the country and go to a school village.
5. He doesn’t write with his right hand He is left-handed.
6. I always fell nervous when my teacher ask me to recite my lesson
in front of the class.
Further explain the words for listening if necessary

WHILE-LISTENING
Set the scene:
Many people say that school days are the happiest days in their life .In
today lesson ,you will listen to Mr Ba talking to his nephew about his
school days . You listen to the tape and do the tasks followed .
Task 1 – True or False
 Ask Ss to read the statement carefully before listening to the tape
 Play the tape more than once if necessary.
 Call on some Ss to explain their answers in front of the class .
 Check their answers in front of the class as a whole .
 Give the correct answers :
1. F (He starts school in 1942 when he was 6.)

4. F (H is teacher made him write with his right hand. They hit him
on the fingers when he wrote with his left hand )
5. F (He just learned at the home and recited them in class .-
Task 2- Answers the questions
Ask Ss to the tape again and give short answers to the question in pairs
.
Note ; Ss don’t need to use the exact words in the tape . They can use
their own words if necessary.
Call on some Ss to read their answers aloud in front of the class. . Ask
fir corrections from other Ss.
Give correct answers :
1. He was 6
2. because his teacher hit him on the fingers (when he wrote with his
left hand )

5. By writing 100 times the sentences :” I must leave home early . I
must not arrive late.”

Mr. Ba: Homework? I don’t remember any homework. I just learned my lessons at home
and recited them in class. The teachers never thought of it.

days the happiest days in your life?
Mr. Ba: Yes, I think so.

Let Ss work in pairs and discuss the questions:
What do you remember most about your school days(lower secondary school)?
What subjects did you like to study/did you hate most?
Who were your closest friends?
Pair work
What was the sweetest memory that you had?

3’ WRAPPING
Summarize the main points.
Assign homework.
Whole class
