Reading a passage about learning
2. Objectives
By the end of the lesson ,Ss will be able to:
Define team learning and discuss ways to build an effective team learning .
Improve reading skill True ,False or Not mentioned and Summary Mapping exercises.

Pictures demonstrating team learning

Ss may have difficulty in doing True, False or Not mentioned and Summary Mapping exercises.

15’ WARM-UP
Brainstorming:
Ask Ss to work in pair and discuss the advantages of studying in group and studying
individually.
Gather ideas and write them on the board.
Suggested ideas:
Studying in group studying individually.
Share ideas with / get new ideas
from friends

Which way of learning do you prefer? Give reason.
Call on some Ss to share the ideas in front of the class .
Set the scene
Team working in general and team learning in particular has been popular in recent times. More
and more students enjoy learning in a team. In today’ lesson, we will find out the activities that
a team can work together and the strategies for building a strong team work
Pair work
10’ PRE- READING
Vocabulary pre- teach:
Achievement (n): the act of achieving smt ,success
Satisfaction (n): the act of satisfying or the act of being satisfied
Class note: main points taken in class /during the lesson.
Unfamiliar(a): not knowing well or at all
-Strategy (n):the act of planning and policy in learning
-Maximize (v): giving or showing attention
-Cooperative(a): working together
-Personality (n): personal character, identity of a person .
Shared interests and lifestyles (n):the same hobbies and way of living
Checking technique:
Sentences modeling
Ask Ss to make the sentences with the new words above . C all on several Ss to make sentences
with the same word to make sure Ss understand the meaning of the words.

15’ WHILE –READING
Task 1-True False or Not Mentioned

Individual
work
Tell Ss to read the statements carefully before reading the passage.
-Explicit the term Not Mentioned/ / Not Given.
Ask Ss to read the passage individually and decide whether he statements are true false or not
mentioned . Correct the false statements.
Have Ss compare their answers in front of the class
Feedback and give correct answers:

4. You should choose teammates with shared interests.
5. A small team allows more face-to-face interaction and is easier to get together.
Task 2 –Answering the questions
Ask Ss to work in pair, read the passage again and answer the questions.
Tell Ss to discuss and highlight or underline parts of the text to locate the information for the
answers .
Call on some pairs to read their answers aloud in front of the class.
Correct the answers in front of class as a whole.

interaction.

Task 3-Summary Mapping
Form small groups . Ask Ss to read the text again and complete the map in the book .
Encourage Ss to complete the map as quickly as possible
Draw the on the board.

Call on representatives from groups to go to the board and complete the map.
Ask Ss for comments and corrections .
Feedback and give the correct answers :
1. Strategies.
2. Sharing class note
3. Reviewing test results
4. Forming teams with both genders

6. Learning more from friends than from teacher or textbooks
15’ POST- READING
Ask Ss to close the book and discuss the questions:
Why is team learning important
What are the strategies for the maximizing the performance of team work ?
Encourage Ss to add their own ideas when discussing .
Call on some Ss to make short talks on topic in front of the class .
Ask other Ss for comments on the presenters’ performance regarding accuracy, content and
fluency .
Note : Ts can also organize a competition to find the best presenter of the day following the
below assessment criteria :
