Five bodies of water make up the chain of lakes called the Great Lakes. Each of these five lakes

is among the fifteen largest lake in the world. The largest of these lakes is Lake Superior, followed by
Huron, Michigan, Erie, and Ontario.
Lake Michigan is located entirely within the United States, but the other four lakes form a part
of the boundary running between the United States and Canada. These freshwater lakes form a
waterway more than 1,000 miles long, which is as busy as, if not busier than, any other waterway in the
world. Canals have been dug to make the lakes a better waterway. These canals permit large, ocean-
going vessels ( large ships or boats) loaded with grain, iron ore, and coal to reach the lakes.

Simon: What do I remember of the nineties…er…Well, I left school in 1994 and I went to university. I
studied graphic design – it was really good. I had a good time. Then after university, in 1997, I was
really lucky. I got a job immediately. A job with Saatchi and Saatchi, they’re an advertising agency in
London. Soon after that, 1998 it was, I met Zoe, she is my girlfriend. She has a good job,too, and we

bought a flat together in 1999.
The only sport I like is football, so I remember when France won the World Cup in 1998. Brazil
lost in 1998 but they won in 1994.
I remember when Tony Blair became Britian’s Prime Minister in 1997, that was just after I
started at Saatchi and Saatchi. Oh, and I remember Bill Clinton and all the problems he had in his last
year in the White House. And Euro-eleven countries in Europe began to use the Euro in 1999, but
Britain didn’t.
Princess Diana died in a car crash in Paris in 1997. Millions of people came to London for her
funeral.
