Unit 8: FUTURE LIFE
Lesson 1: Reading
I/ Objectives: After finishing the lesson, sts can predict future in some aspects as family, house,
holiday, environment, health services and education.
II/ Skills: 4 skills.
III/ Teaching Aids: Book, pictures of future life, poster.
IV/ Lexical Items: cohabit, Embryo Bank, sperm, egg cell, deposit, environment…
V/ Procedures:
Teacher’s activities Students’ activities
I/ Warm-up ( 4 minutes)
Teacher give sts some pictures of future
life then asks sts to guess how people
will live, study, work………
II/ Pre- reading ( 6 minutes)
Teacher asks sts to look at the pictures
and guess about the future classrooms.
Teacher can explain more about
teleconferencing and electronic
classroom.
Teacher asks sts to work in pairs to
match the pictures in textbook with the
headline below.
After that teacher asks sts to choose the
kind of classroom which they like and
tell the reason.
III/ While- reading (25 minutes)
A/ Teacher introduces the theme of the
reading (some prediction of future life)
then asks sts to read and match the
paragraphs with the headings.
B/ Teacher asks sts to find the words in


the text having the following meanings.
1. live together without being
married
2. know all over the world
3. try to achieve something over a
period of time
4. ………………………………..
Teacher asks some sts to write the
answers on the board some others
comment.
Teacher corrects if necessary.
C/ Teacher hangs the poster of the
Sts look at the pictures, discuss with
each other.
Sts listen to teacher.
Sts work in pairs.
Sts discuss to choose and tell the reason.
Sts do teacher’s requirement. Then say
out the answers.

Sts work in groups to find out the
answers.
Sts do as teacher’s instruction.

IV/ Post- reading ( 8 minutes)

on the kinds of the school mentioned in
the text
Teacher’s suggestion:
Advantages: flexible class time,
choosing to study what one likes,
individual student’s needs being met,
low and stable tuition fees……………..
Disadvantages: no direct (face- to- face)
contact with teachers and other
classmates.

V/ Homework (2 minutes)
Sts work in groups of 4
Sts read the text carefully at home, learn
by heart the words in part B, answer the
questions in part C again.
Unit 8: FUTURE LIFE
Lesson 2: Listening
I. Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to listen and understand the
conversation between Mr. Wilson and Hung Vuong High school students
talking about people’ life in the future.
II. Lexical items: words related to the future life
III. Teaching skills: listening, speaking, writing, reading.
IV.Teaching aids: the photo of e-books
V. Procedures:
Teacher’s activities Ss’activities

1. Warm-up:
Game: Making prediction
- break the class into 6 groups
- ask Ss in each group to make
prediction about life in the next 40 years
- give them some topics:
+ Leisure and entertainment
+ Health
+ Holiday
+ Education
- work in groups of six, make prediction
+ Science and technology
- call on the groups to report their
opinions.
- the group with the most
predictions wins the game.
Lead-in:
Having a lot of new and strange things,
Do you like living in the future life?
Today we will listen to Mr. Wilson who
talks about people’ life.
2. Pre- listening:
a) Look at the picture, then may
answer the Qs.
- gets Ss to work in pairs.
- look at the picture and answer.

* Pre-teaching vocabulary:

3. While- listening:
b) Listen and fill in the blank.
@ You will hear Mr. Wilson, a
futurologist, talk to Hung Vuong Ss
about people’ life in the future.

- You will be able to take spills to stop you from
getting fat.
- All household chores will be done by robots.
- There will be no dentists because there will be
a vaccine against tooth decay.
- There will be a cure for most diseases.
- Children won’t go to school – they will be able
to study at home using a computer.

- People will do all the shopping by computers.
- People can travel to space or to the Moon on
their holiday.

Lesson 3:Speaking
I. Objectives :
By the end of the lesson ,Students will know how to interrupt politely and return to the topic
( changes of the future world).
II. Lexical items :
Words / Phrases related to politeness.
III. Teaching skills: 4 skills
IV.Teaching aids :
Posters of the modal dialogue.
II. Procedure:

Warm-up: (3 mn)
-Can you find out 3 changes in the last 40
years.
-Control and give support
Pre- Speaking :(10 mn)
-Stick 2 posters ( exchange between Mary
and Peter) on the board and read them (page
102-Textbook)
-T has students read and pick out phrases to

interrupt politely and returning to the topic
-Give feedback
--Has Ss sit in pairs to practise the
conversation.
-Control
While-Speaking:(20mn): Playing Roles
-Ask sts to choose one of the 3 topics in
textbook.
- Explain how to make the roles
- Explain some difficult phrases
stick the posters with some expression about
interrupting politely and returning to the
topic

-Walk around the class, offer ideas and
comment when Ss need helps. Then select
some pairs at random and has them play roles
in front of the class.
-Focus on the sts’s way how to interrupt
politely and return to the topic
-Has Ss give comments on their friends’
pronunciation
