COMPARISON
I. Equality in comparison :
E.g: John is as tall as Tom.
She runs as fast as her brother.
AS + ADJ/ ADV + AS
E.g: He is not so rich as his brother.
I can’t cook so well as my mother.
NOT + SO/ AS + ADJ/ ADV + AS
II. Comparative :
A. Short Adjectives/ Adverbs.
_ Short Adv contains one syllable.
_ Short Adj contains one syllable or two syllables with the end of “Y, OW, ER, ET, LE.
E.g: Mr. Brown is older than my father.
He runs faster than she.
ADJ/ ADV + ER (THAN)
B. Long ADJ/ ADV.
_ Long Adj/ Adv contains more than two syllable.
E.g : A car is more expensive than a bike.
MORE +ADJ/ ADV (THAN)
III. Superlative :
A. Short Adjectives/ Adverbs.
E.g : Grandfather is the oldest in my family.
THE + ADJ/ ADV + EST
B. Long ADJ/ ADV.
E.g : This is the most difficult lesson in the book.
THE MOST + ADJ/ ADV
* IRREGULAR ADJ/ ADV :
1. Good/ Well better the best
2. Bad/ Badly worse the worst
3. Many/ Much more the most
4. Little less the least
