1. Huong Pagoda.
Around 70 kilometers southwest of Ha Noi, Huong Pagoda is one among largest
and unique religious sites in Huong Son Commune, My Duc Distric, old Ha
Tay( now Ha Noi ), right banks of Day river, nothern Viet Nam. This place is one
of Vietnam popular destinations. Visitor can go to Huong Son via the Ha DongVan Dinh route. It comprises a complex of pagodas and Buddhist shrines built into
the limstone cliffs of Huong Son, scattering alongside the mountain up to the peak.
The complex’s center is right inside Huong Tich Cave. Huge numbers of pilgrims
flock to the site during Huong pagoda festival, which begins in the middle of the
first lunar month and last until the middle of the third one in oder to pray for
happiness and prosperity in the coming year. Also, it is a popular opportunity for
young couples to meet and for numerous budding romances to be formed. On this
special occasion,a wide range of traditional cutural activities is incorporated.
Huong pagoda is not only a religious site, but a great sight – seeing spot in Viet
Nam as well.
You will need to take a car or motobike for around two hours before boarding a
woonden or iron boat to reach the temple complex.
The boat journeys down a narrow flowing steam fringed by rice fields, temples
and grass and you will have the option to stop and visit some of these temples.
However , if you are short of time its best to head straight to Huong Tich cave. It’s
an uphill walk to the Huong Pagoda which will take around one hour and things
can get slippery, so remember to bring walking shoes or boots.
2.HUONG PAGODA FESTIVAL
Time: It starts from the 6th day of 1st lunar month, to the 15th day of the 3rd lunar
month
-Main festival days lasting from 15th day to the 20th day of 2nd lunar month


=> It lasts for ‘bout 3 months

Characteristics: -One of the longest festival with the most spacious area
The same as the other festivals, Huong Pagoda festival includes 2 parts:
CEREMONY AND FESTIVITY
• CEREMONIES:
Ceremony of openin’ da forest:-It’s held in Trinh temple on 6th day of 1st lunar month
-A pre-agricultural ritual of the mountain people in paying respect to the Forest
Deity and Mountain Deity, praying for bumper crops happiness. It takes place
solemly in a wish for opening a year of great luck
Moreover:
The Buddhist clergy hold insence offerin’ ceremony in Trong Pagoda
Khanh Dan ceremony ( Da birthday of Lord Ba celebration )
• FESTIVITIES (. In Huong pagoda festval, rituals are not as important and
attractive as visiting beauty landscapes )

3.The ceremonies of Huong Pagoda festival.
I.The Firt ceremony : Ceremony of opening the forest.
The Huong pagoda festival opens its gate on the 6th day of the 1th lunar month.
These day originally is the forest opening ceremony. But now, rituals of the
opening the forest contains new meaning “ opening Pagoda’s gate”.
The ceremony is derived from the ancient forest opening ceremony of the Muong
people. According to the record book, Huong Son mountain formerly principal
residence of the Muong peple, living by gathering, hunting and fishing. The
minority opinion, after a year, forest door closed so, enter the new year, need to
celebrate. They carry out ceremony of opening the forest to start a new the
gathering and hunting season. Without opening ceremony forests that arbitrarily
enter the forest is very vulnerable to ricks such as: captured by forest ghost soul,
bitten by snakes, tigers eat meat…
This ritual is held in Trinh temple.because, this is unlucky land. There is often tiger
to come. Therefore, Trinh temple is honoring the god of tiger. People praying
respect to the Forest Deity and Mountain Deity, praying for bumper crops
happiness. This ceremony takes place solemnly in a wish for opening a year of
great luck. Only after this ceremony can the villagers be allowed to enter forest to
hunt animal and exploit foresty product. This also signals the opening of Huong
pagoda festival.
The venerable Thich Minh Hien rang the bell to officially open the festival at the
Huong pagoda on the 6th day of 1st lunar month. The opening ceremony began at the
Thien Tru pagoda with pilgrims and tourists invited to take part in the incense
offering ceremony
II.The Second ceremony: incense offering ceremony in Trong pagoda.
The rituals take place very simple. In Trong pagoda, incense offering ceremony is
held including incense, flowers, lights, candles, fruits and vegetarian. Two nuns

dance beautifully with performance hard to find elsewhere. From opening day until
the end of festival, only sometimes monks come to chant about haft an hour, but
incense never stops ending. Visitor attending Huong pagoda festival usually make
some wishes and when they are worshipping Buddha’s in the pagoda. They pray

their wishs to come true. The visitors bring offering with them from home,
including boiled chicken, boiled pigs’ heads and steames sticky rice. After prayers,
each person will take a small portion of the offering ( called Loc) which is then
carried home for their family.Loc is a sacred and pecious thing as it is believed to
bring good luck to those who eat it.
III.The thirt ceremony : Khanh Dan ceremony.
Main festival is usually from full moon of January to 18 th of february( lunar
month). And Khanh Dan ceremony takes place on the 19 thday of 2ndlunar month. It
also known as main festival. This is the most impotant and biggest ritual in Huong
pagoda festival with thousands of prigrims take part in.
On the 19th day of 2nd lanar month is known as the birthday of Lord Ba celebration
or it is called Khanh Dan ceremony.
Legend has it that the festival is held to worship a princess named Dieu Thien who
incarnated Avalokitasvara and attained enlightenment there. As the princess was
born on the 19th day of the 2nd lunar month, that date is now observed by all
Vietnamese Buddhists as a sait day besides Buddha’s birthday on 8 th April lunar
month. The shrine in which she practised her religion was discovered in the 15 th
century by three monks. According to legend, a pilgrimage to Huong pagoda in the
spring will bring health, prosperity, good luck and happiness.
In the afternoon, thousands of flower garlands and coloured lands was threw on the
Yen stream. Each candle show for wishes of prigrims.
4. Present festivities Huong pagoda:

Huong Son mount,singing ferry song,Chau Van singing.
+The first, Dragon dancing:dragon dancing is a art derived from China,birth 1500
year ago.

and Buddhists.

black,hand take fan,bear strangers,don’t hair.
+To the Huong pagoda festival,we will be hear Chau Van singing.
.Chau Van singing is a category sing on form”Hau Dong”
.After “Hau Dong”,Gifts dedicate will be distributed.
.Ritual”Chau Van” have four part:
1.Hallow input,please!
2.Talk the area and merit.
3.Hallow goodluck,please!
4.Farewell
.Chau Van singing has form performance:poetry singing,exam singing,page

+To the Huong pagoda festival,we”ll be climbing Huong Son mount:
.Widely boad,farewell river,people will be integration into the mountains,pagoda
and start journey climbing mount.

.Climbing mount creat human psychology wanted to reach expectations of beauty.
+So,to the Huong pagoda festival:have to boating on the Yen stream and singing
ferry song.
5. Duc wharf and Yen stream

From Duc Khe tourists can reach Huong Son via the land or sea routes. The latter
is much preferred as it provides a stunning approach. Duc wharf is where tourists
start their journey in . Normally, it takes more than 2 hours to go from Hanoi to
Duc wharf. During the annual festival months, Duc wharf is packed with
thousands of row boats used for shuttling visitors. For many visitors, this one-hour

boat ride on the Yen Vi Stream from Duc wharf is actually the highlight of the trip,
and inspiration sources of quite a few famous poets.
Yen stream flows between two mountains. you can see on the map, it's blue.
tourists will start at Yen wharf and sit on the boat and enjoy the surrounding
landscapes. tourists may feel that this stream is endless. During festive season, Yen
stream is full of boats carrying pilgrim, who have come to enjoy Huong Pagoda
festival and landscapes of Huong Son. Traveling along Yen stream for three
kilometers, tourists pass by landscapes, many of which are named according to
their form. On the left is Con Phuong ( phoenix) mountain, there is also Doi cheo
mountain, also are Bung and Voi, two mountains have interesting legends.this
legends say that: Huong Son have 100 mountains, among ninety nine mountains are
turning round the Huong Tich pagoda, but only one stubborn mountain is turning
away. it has been took a large piece of buttock by the god held the sword cutting.
On the right is Ngu Hanh mountains with Trinh Temple, where tourists stop and
burn incense for the god of the mountain. before reaching Tro wharf where tour
begins, the boat also passed by Deo and Phong Su mountains, Son Thuy Huu Tinh
cave, Trau cave,Dau valley and Hoi bridge, which has been made by hoi xa village
in 1860. you can see it's red and over the Yen stream to go into the forest.The next
stop is Tro wharf, from which pilgrims travel on foot to Thien Tru Pagoda.
6.Trình Temple
Trình Temple:

Đền Trình, tên chữ là Ngũ Nhạc Linh Từ tên dân gian thường gọi là Đền Trình, một
di tích lịch sử văn hoá trong khu thắng cảnh Hương Sơn. Theo thuyết phong thuỷ,
dãy núi Ngũ nhạc có hình thế một con rồng lớn, dáng núi uy nghiêm, minh đường
tụ thuỷ, sinh khí trường tồn, từ xa xưa dân thôn đã dựng ở đầu dãy núi một ngôi
đền nhỏ để thờ một vị thần Tướng đã góp công đánh giặc Ân phò Vua Hùng Huy
Vương thứ VI
Vào đời Vua Hùng huy Vương thứ VI, Ở Bộ Vũ Linh Quận Siêu Loại – Hương
Vĩnh Thế có gia đình Lạc Tướng dòng dõi Vua Hùng. Hùng công kết duyên cùng
bà Nguyễn Thị Liễu, người ở vùng núi Hương Tích. Vợ chồng ăn ở đức độ, hay
làm việc thiện, hiềm nỗi tuổi cao mà chưa sinh được quý tử nối nghiệp vương gia.
Một hôm bà Liễu nói với Hùng công: thiếp kết duyên với Vương gia là do thiên

định, thiếp xin về quê Hương Tích cầu quý tử để nối nghiệp Vương Gia. Hùng
Công nghe nói rất đỗi ngỡ ngàng vội sai gia nhân cùng bà Liễu về vùng núi Hương
Tích. Trong những ngày nghỉ tại Yến Vỹ bà Liễu một mình đi vào núi Ngũ Nhạc,
được thần núi cho biết : Tiên nữ giáng thế nay sắp phải về trời, Thiên Đình cho
Hoàng Hổ Tinh xuống đầu thai, mai sau cứu nước phò Vua trả nghĩa mối trần
duyên. Bà Liễu bái tạ thần linh, cảm tạ dân hương Yến Vỹ. Về đến nhà bà Liễu kể
lại chuyện cho Hùng Công nghe, Hùng Công biết là trời sai thần tướng xuống làm
con mình, nhưng cũng đau buồn vì chẳng bao lâu nữa là vợ chồng xa cách. Buồn
vui lẫn lộn không nói lên lời.
Thấm thoát ngày tháng thoi đưa, bà Liễu đã mang thai được 14 tháng, một hôm
đầy nhà hương thơm ngào ngạt, ánh hào quang sáng rực bà Liễu sinh hạ một người
con trai, mặt vuông trán rộng, tay dài quá gối, tướng mạo đã lộ rõ vẻ lẫm liệt oai
phong. Vợ chồng Hùng công cùng gia nhân vui mừng khôn xiết. Được một trăm
ngày Hùng Công mời già lão hương dân tới đặt tên con là Hùng Lang. Hùng Công
lại sai gia nhân sắm sửa lễ nghi cùng mình về núi Ngũ Nhạc tạ ơn trời đất. Trong
những ngày ở lại đây Hùng Công vẫn nhớ những lời vợ nói: khi nào bất giác thấy

lòng đau như cắt, cũng là lúc gia nhân hốt hoảng báo tin
Hùng công đọc thư lòng đau thương khôn xiết. Sau khi lo việc an nghỉ cho bà Liễu,
Hùng Công nói với gia nhân: “Con ta và vợ ta đều có tiền duyên ở Hương Tích nơi
lưu dấu thơm của phật, cảnh kỳ sơn tú thuỷ quần tiên tụ hội, ta xin lưu lại nơi đây
nuôi dạy con ta và trả nghĩa mối nhân duyên thiên định. “Thoi đưa ngày tháng năm
Hùng Lang được 13 tuổi thì Hùng Công về trời, Hùng lang vô cùng thương tiếc
cùng già lão hương dân ngậm ngùi tiễn đưa Hùng Công về cõi trời. Đến năm Hùng
Lang được 18 tuổi đã là người tinh thông võ nghệ, uy đức khác thừơng, hương dân
rất tôn kính ..
Lúc bấy giờ nhà Ân ở phương Bắc cậy binh hùng tướng giỏi đem quân xâm lấn
nước Văn Lang, thế giặc rất mạnh và tàn ác, đi đến đâu là đốt phá hương ấp chém
giết lê dân. Nhà Vua hạ chỉ cho quan Tư Mã đem quân thuỷ bộ chặn đánh giặc và
sai sứ giả đi 15 bộ tìm thần tướng đánh giặc cứu nước Văn Lang. Quan Tư Mã
vâng chỉ nhà Vua hội quân dưới cờ Đức Thánh Phù Đổng Thiên Vương diệt giặc.
Bộ tướng của giặc Ân là Thạch Linh bị đại tướng Hùng Lang chém chết tại trận
tiền, tàn quân giặc thua chạy về phương Bắc. Giặc tan Đức Thánh Phù Đổng Thiên
Vương phi ngựa tới núi Sóc Sơn về trời. Quan Tư Mã Hùng Lang đem tin thắng
trận về phụng chỉ. Nhà Vua ban cho quan Tư Mã một chiếc áo cẩm bào, năm trăm
hoàng kim, cho hưởng lộc vùng Hương Tích làm thang mộc ấp. Bái tạ nhà Vua và

triều thần Hùng Lang cùng với trai dân đã theo Ngài tòng chinh xin về quê mẹ điền
viên. Ngài đem hoàng kim nhà Vua ban chia cho hương dân yến vĩ, mở hội mừng
vui với hương dân. Hội vui đã về khuya, trên trời mây mưa kéo đến, sấm chớp ầm
ầm, một ánh hào quang sáng rực vụt lên không trung. Quan Tư Mã Hùng Lang đã
về trời. Hôm sau gia nhân cùng hương dân làm sớ dâng lên nhà Vua, Lúc đó nhà
Vua mới biết trời sai thần tướng xuống giúp đánh giặc cứu nước Văn Lang. Nhà
Vua hạ chiếu ban kim ngân lập đền thờ Ngài ở núi Ngũ Nhạc cho dân ấp Yến Vỹ

ngàn năm thờ phụng.

Một góc Đền Trình
Trong cuộc khánh chiến chống thực dân Pháp, Đền bị giặc Pháp đốt phá tháng 2
năm 1947 tiếp đến những năm 1951 -1953 giặc tạm chiếm dóng bốt tại làng Yến
Vỹ, Đền Trình lại là mục tiêu bắn phá, cảnh quan sơ xác tiêu điều.
Hoà bình lập lại với sự đóng góp nhân duyên của du khách thập phương cùng nhân
dân thôn Yến Vỹ Đền Trình từng bứoc được tu sửa lại. Năm 1962 Đền được bộ văn
hoá thông tin xếp hạng di tích lịch sử cấp quốc gia. Từ năm 1992 đến 1997 Đền
Trình được xây dựng lại như ngày nay theo kiểu chữ “Tam“ (hậu cung – đại bái –
tiền đường) theo nghệ thuật kiến trúc thời Lê ở Việt Nam. Các bức cốn đầu dư
đựơc nghệ nhân đục trạm tứ linh tứ quí rất tinh xảo; bên ngoài các góc đao cách
điệu rồng quài lá lật. Ngoài sân Đền có tượng võ sĩ, voi chầu bằng đá tạo nên vẻ
tôn nghiêm phảng phất chốn cung đình.
7.Thien Tru Pagoda
Thien Tru pagoda is the first destination. Known as the Kitchen of heaven Thien
Tru (Heaven Kitchen) Pagoda, also known as Chua Ngoai (Outer Pagoda). The

temple was built in the 18th century. Thien Tru means heavenly kitchen. This name
was derived from the imagination of the locals in this region. Supposedly, the rock
formations in this area look like chefs busily working in the kitchen. The name
Thien Tru is also the name of a constellation - for the god of the kitchen.
Monuments and relics
On the way of wharf to Temple have a roof-covered stele called “ Thien Tru tu bi
ky” built in the 7th year of the Chinh Hoa era, recorded the repairs of Thien Tru
and Huong Tich Temple of the monk Vien Quang.
Between temple yard have 3-metre high bronze trippod.
Here one will find Thien Tru temple is famous for the Thien Thuy tower,a naturally

occurring structure that is the result of the erosion of a rocky
hill.and Vien Cong Tower an exquisite terracotta architectural structure dated back
to the 17th century - a brick structure where Ch’an Master Vien Quang, who led the
reconstruction of the pagoda, is buried. On the right is Tien Son grotto, popular for
five granite statues and various formations on the walls of the cave. Coming here,
pilgrims have chances to admire the pagoda’s beauty and wonderful local
landscapes
Thien Tru Pagoda also bell cast in the second year of the Canh Thinh era (1793) of
Tay Son period. And also home to a bell tower and Hall of the Triple Gem, both
built in the 1980s. Inside the Pagoda there is a large statue of Quan Am Nam Hai.
Thien Tru temple is surrounded by hills and mountains. There are also many man
made towers built by various kings during their reign. Today, to accommodate the
thousands of tourists each year, there are lodging facilities for those who wish to
stay overnight.
8.Avalokitesvar in Huong pagoda
The legend Avalokitesvar in Huong pagoda or three princesses name is Diêu
Thiên. She is third princess of the king Dieu Trang Vuong in Huong Lam. She has
beautiful and nice … She does not want to marry but go to spiritual practice.

The today, noteworthy is the statue of Avalokitesvara carved out of emerald stone
on a rocky lotus, constructed in 1793, under the Tay Son dynasty.
9. HUONG TICH grotto
Huong Tich Grotto is a part of the Perfume Pagoda on Perfume Mountain. The
journey to the cave involves a 70 mile journey from Hanoi to Ben Duc, a 1 hour
boat ride on the Yen Vi River and then a hike up to the top of the mountain.
Every year around Tet (between February and March), there is an annual
pilgrimage of Buddhists to the Perfume mountain and Chua Huong. Hundreds of
thousands of people from all over the country are drawn by the Hoi Chua Huong or
Chua Huong festival. The town of Ben Duc is packed with thousands of row boats
used for shuttling visitors during this time of the year.
Upon arriving to Huong Tich grotto, the is a 120 steps descend as the temple lies
deep within the grotto. At the etrance to the grotto, the is “heaven’s gate” (path to
heaven) and “hell’s gate” (descend to hell). The path to Huong Tich winds its way
through magnificently luxuriant landscapes. The moss-grown Huong Tich Grotto
came to life thanks to the most venerable Van Thuy Thien Tran Dao Vien Quang
Chan Nhan, the Chief monk of Thien Tru Pagoda.
In the 18th century, Lord Trinh Sam had 5 words “Nam Thien De Nhat Dong”
meaning, “the most beautiful grotto under southern sky”, carved onto the granite

slab legend, the cave was discovered two thousand years ago. Howere, local people
only began to place a shrine there in 1575, and later a larger temple was built.
There are many colorful stalagmites and stalactites within the cave. Each is given a
name for the purported features. Inside there are statues of
King's

Father,Queen,Avalokitesvara,and so on.Noteworthy is the Cuu Long structure with
nine dragons flanking from above. Some of the more famous ones are Cay GaoRice Stick, Cay Vang- Golden Stick, Nui Co- the maiden and Nui Cau- the youth.
Nui Co and Nui Cau supposedly look like the head of a young children. It is
believed that couples who wish for children often pay homage to Huong Tich grotto
and to especially visit Nui Co and Nui Cau to pray for their first born.
10. Giai Oan pagoda
- Located approximately 70 kilometers sounth of Hanoi, and downstream from the
towx of My Duc on the Yen River in the Huong Tich Mountains, Chua Huong is a
riverside complex of Buddhist temples that draws large numbers of pilgrim from
throughout Vietnam. Legends claim a Buddhist monk discovered the site over 2000
years ago and that the first temples were constructed in the 15th century.
- The main pilgrimage season at Chua Huong is during the Huong Pagoda festival,
when hundreds of thousands of pilgrims make their way to Huong Tich cave and
the other temples. The longest lastinh festival in Vietnam, it officially begins on
February 15 on the lunar calendar, but the peak in visitors lasts from the middle of
January to the middle of March.
- The primary temple in the complex in knows as the Perfume Pagoda. Also
knowsn as Chua Trong, it is situated inside the Huong Tich Cave, which is a streep
4 kilometer climb uphill from the rive. The entrance of the cave has the appearance
of open dragon’s mouth and Chinese characters are carved in a wall at the mouth of
the cave. Inside the cave are many statues of deities, including a large statue of the
Buddha, as well as one of the Bodhisattva Quan Am. Among the naturally
occurring features of the cave are numerous stalactites and stalagmites, many of
which are named, belived to possess special powers, and wom smooth from vears
of rubbing by visitors. Pilgrims often gather under one particular stalactite, which
resembles a breast, to catch drops of water in hopes of being blessed with health.
Huong Tich cave is also considered a sacred place because legend says that the

Bodhisattva Quan Am visited it in order to help save huma souls. Important
temples at the lower, riverside part of the complex include the Den Trinh, Thien Tru
and Giai Oan.
- Giai Oan pagoda men on the mountainside, left Huong Tich way by their masters
to enlighten common Le Thuan Tong in 1735. Long Duc dating 4 th in Long Tuyen
mountain. In 1928 grand master Thanh Tich achievement embellished under that “y
bich son”.
- in 1955 construction board Huong Pagoda restoration. Am Phat Tich temples
moving Tuyet Kinh, Am Tu Van. Especially in the temple there are natural wells
throughout the country Thanh Tri and unfailing. Legend Guanyin was bathing in
the well to remove dust and relaxing meditation before entering the realm of
Buddha.
