COURSE OBJECTIVES
Principles of Microeconomics is an introductory course to equip undergraduate students
the fundamental understandings of microeconomic concept and thinking, such as supply
and demand analysis, theories of the firm and individual behavior, competition and
monopoly. Students will also be introduced to the use of microeconomic applications to
address problems in current economic policy throughout the semester.
By the end of this course, students should be able to apply principles of economics to real
life. Specifically, they should:

Understand consumer behavior.

Understand firm behavior.

Analyze different types of market structures (monopoly, oligopoly and a
competitive market).



Understand how to apply economic principles to a range of policy questions.
LEARNING METHOD
Each session deals with different topic, which is presented on course schedule below. In
order to be productive under time constraint, students are required to READ materials in
advance as students are assessed not only on their attendance but also their participation
to in-class discussions.
COURSE ASSESSMENT
Students will be evaluated based on their participation in class and written tests. More
specifically, the grade components are as follows:
Class participation: 10%
Mid term 1: 15%
Mid term 2: 15%
Final exam: 60%
** Notice: There are bonus marks (which is added to mid term result) awarded to
students who volunteer to solve problems in class or those who write essays related to
microeconomics.
