Unit 1 : My friends (6 lesons)
Lesson 1 : Getting started + Listen & read
I, Aims :
Reading the dialogue for details and revision of favorite activities and and simple
tenses
II, Objectives : By the end of the lesson , students will be able to know more about
Hoa – Lan – Nien and to review simple presnt and simple past tense
III, Teaching aids :
- Text books
- Pictures and tape
IV, Procedure :
1, Warm up:
- Ask ss to look at 4 pictures and takl about the activities they want to do after
school or in their free time.
- Give some questions : +, What are these students doing ?
+, What time of the day do you think it is ?
+, Do you like soccer / reading books....?
+Whom do you like playing with ?
2, Presentation :
Pre – teach : seem ( v) ( translation )
look like (v) ‘ ‘
a next door neighbor ( explanation :a person who lives next to your house )
- Set the scene by asking ss some questions about Hoa :
+ Do you remember Hoa ?
+ Where’s she from ?
+ Who does she live with now ?
-Have ss look at the picture in books and say :’’ This is Hoa, and that’s Nien – her friend . Now
Hoa’s in Ha noi but Nien is in Hue . Now listen to the dialogue between Hoa and Lan . They
are talking about Nien
- Get ss to listen to the dialogue and repeat
- Call some pair to read the dialogue


- Give model sentence:
+ She wasn’t old enough to be in my class
Structure
3,Practice :
- Get ss to discuss and answer the questions in pairs :
a, Nien lives in Hue
b, No, she doesn’t
c, The sentence is ‘’ She wasn’t old...... in my class
d, At Christmas
- Have ss practice new structure:
Exercise 1 : Repetition Drill using word give (for weak ss)
a, Join the police
b, see thet film
,c, have a full – time job
d, drive a car
Eg : Teacher say and write :” You are not old enough to drive a motorbike”
Teacher says :” Join the police”
Ss say: “ You are not old enought to join the police”
Exercise 2 :Word cue drill ( for stronger ss)
a, tall / join the police
b, not strong / push the door open
c, intelligent/ finish the work
d, (not) old / drive a car
4, Production
- Ask ss to write a paragraph about Hoa and Lan . Give some cues :
a, Lan/ Hoa’s best friend
a, Adj + enough to + V
b, -What do / does .......look like ?
- S + TOBE + Adj
b, They/ same class/ Quang Trung school

c, Last year/ Hoa to school frirst time
d, Lan/ show around / introdure/ to new friends
5, Home work:
- Learn and write new words + structures
- Do exercises 1,2 in workbook ( page 5,6)

Lesson 2 – Speak
I, Aims :
-Giving students more practice in describing someone.
II, Aids:
- Pictures
- Studennts themselves
III, Procedure:
1, Warm up :
Brainstorming : Ask ss to think of adj used to describe body build and hair
thin fat
tall body build
big short blond short
hair
black
blond
short
Possible answers :
body build :- slim hair: -curly
- overweight - straight
- slender - dark
- fair = blond
2, Presentation :
Pre – spesking
- Show ss a picture of Mary and ask them to describe her hair and her body build

Example: She has long blond hair
She is short and thin
Structure : S + have + Adj + hair
has
S + TOBE+ Adj
3, Practice : While – speaking
Set the scene
- Let ss practice the dialogue
- Word cue drill : Prepare 6 cards so that ss can drill easily
a, he/ tall/thin
b, he/ short/ fat
c, she/ tall/big
d, long/ black
e, curly/ blond
f, straight / brown
- Practice speaking :Play a game : Guessing game:
Example exchange:
S1: This person is short and thin . She has short fair hair
S2: Is this Miss Lien ?
S1: No, she isn’t
S2: Is this Ann?
S1: Yes
4, Production: Post- speaking
- Let ss work in pairs : one point to a person in pictures and ask ; other answers:
Example : - Who are you describing ?
- I’ m describing Mr. Lai
- What does he look like ?
- He’s short and fat. He has bald hair
a famous person
If there’s enough time , ask ss to describe

a classmate
5, Home work -Describie your classmate who is next to you
