Unit I4: recreation
A: Reading
Time: 45 minutes.
I: Objectives
1. Educational aims:
- Students should know well about leisure activities in England.
2. Knowledge:
• General knowledge: Through this unit, students know about leisure
activities in England, ( traditional leisure activities and a new trend )
• Language: words related to the leisure activities.
3. Skills:
- Reading for gist and specific information.
- Reading and guessing the meaning of the words in the right context.
- Reading and answering the questions on the passage.
- Scanning and writing down the information in the passage.
- Summarising the passage in a form of speaking or writing.
II: Method:
-Integrated, mainly communicative.
III: Teaching aids:
• projector
• a piece of video clip with a song
• textbooks
IV: Procedure:
Teacher’s activities
1. Warm - up ( 5mns.)
-Teacher asks the monitor:
+Who is absent today?
+Who is on duty today?
+What date is it today?
-Teacher introduces:
“In the last period, you finished unit 13.


Today we will learn unit 14. Before the
new unit, you will watch a piece of
video clip with a song and answer the
question:
‘What are the people doing?”

with a song and answer:

-Teacher gives the answers
-Teacher raises a question:

-Teacher leads to the new lesson:

Unit 14: recreation
A. Reading
2. Before you read (5mns.)
-Teacher has students discuss the
question: “Which of the following
leisure activities do you think British

people often do in their spare time?
- To understand well about leisure
activities in England we move to the
part “While you read”
3. While you read ( 23 mns.)
Activity 1
-First, teacher asks students to listen to
the tape, and underline new words
-Teacher asks students to listen to the
tape again and focus on the new words.
-Teacher asks students to read the text in
silence to know what the text is about.
-Teacher gives the new words on the
screen
-Teacher reads the new words twice
-Teacher asks students to read after the
Teacher
-Teacher asks 2 students to read again
the new words
- Students listen to the teacher.
-A student answers:
¦We call them “ recreation”
- Students listen and write down
-One student reads the requirement
-Students work in pairs to answer the
question:
-reading books/newspapers
-watching TV/videos
-playing sports
-singing

-listening to music
-watching sports

(student’s answers many vary.)
- Students listen to the tape and underline
new words
-Students listen to the tape again and
focus on the new words.
- Students read the text in silence to
know what the text is about.

Activity 2: Task 1
-Teacher asks students to read the
requirement of task 1 and translate it
into Vietnamese.
-Teacher asks students to say how to do
Task 1
-Teacher asks students to work in
groups .Each table is one group
- Teacher walks around the class and
offers ideas and comments when
students need help.
-Teacher calls on 2 students to write on
the board.

-Teacher calls on some students to
remark and read each sentence.
- Teacher gives remarks and give marks.
Activity 3: Task 2
-Teacher asks students to read the
requirement of task 2 and translate it
into Vietnamese.
-Teacher gives the key words on the
screen.
-Teacher asks students to work in pairs.
- Teacher walks around the class and
offers ideas and comments when
students need help.
-Teacher calls on some pairs to practise
orally.
-Students read the requirement of task 1
and translate it into Vietnamese
-Students say how to do Task 1

words in the context”
-Students work in groups .

-Teacher says: “To remember well
about the leisure activities the British
often do, I’ like you to solve a
crossword puzzle. You have to complete
7 sentences all appeared in the reading
passage. Now read the sentences
carefully and fill each blank with the
right word from the text.
