Unit 2: SCHOOL TALKS
Lesson: READING

I> OBJECTIVES:
- Students should love school, family and always try to please their teachers and parents.
- Help Ss understand some small talks of a student, a teacher and a father.
II> PREPERATION: Textbook, picture, extra boards.
III> PROCEDURE:

1/ Warm up:(3mn.s)
- Show a picture ( about a break time at school).
- Ask Ss some questions:
+ Where are they?
+ Can you guess what are they talking about?
- Introduce the lesson.
2/ Pre – reading:(10mn.s)
• Activity 1:
- Ask Ss to work in pairs: Ask and answer about
the topics (given in the text book/p.22) they often
talk when meeting their friends.
+ Ss 1: Which topics do you often talk about when
meeting your friends?
+ Ss 2: I often talk about work and study, sports and
games,……..
- Call two or three pairs to present in front of
class.
• Activity 2:
- Ask Ss to work in groups, discuss and write down the
words related to school.
- Give suggestion on an extra board:

answers with their partners.
- Give feedback.
• Task 2 : (St’s book/p.23)
- Explain how to do the task.
- Ask Ss to read the phrases given in the task.
- Ask Ss to read the small talks and give the
answer.
- Ask Ss to give the answer.
- Give feedback.
• Task 3 : (St’s book/p.14)
- Explain how to do the task carefully.
- Ask Ss to work in pairs to ask and answer the
questions given.
- Ask Ss to read and write down the answer on
the board.
- Give feedback.

- Call some Ss from different groups to talk in
front of class.
- Listen, evaluate; give marks.
5/ Home work:(2mn.s)
- Reread the text and redo the tasks.
- Write a passage about yourself, using the first
paragraph as a frame.
- Pick out the verbs followed by V-ing
from the reading text.

+ Group 1+2: Question 1.

I> OBJECTIVES:
- Students should be polite in communicating with each other.
- Ss can make small talks using the starting and ending of a conversation.
II> PREPERATION: Textbook.
III> PROCEDURE:

1/ Warm up:(3mn.s)
- Ask Ss some questions:
+ What do you often say when you meet or want to say
hello to a people?
+ What do you often say when you want to say goodbye
to a people?
- Leads to the new lesson: Today we will practice
making a conversation with starting and closing
expressions.
2, Pre- speaking : (8mn.s)
- Give instruction:
Task 1 : These expressions are commonly used when
people are chatting. Place them under the appropriate
heading. Then practice with a partner.
1. Good morning./ Hi
2. Great. I’ll see you tomorrow
3 .Sorry, I’ve got to go. Talk to you later
4. Hello. How are you ?
5. Well, it’s been nice meeting you.
6 .Hello. What are you doing ?
7 .How is everything at school ?
8. Catch you later.

9. Hi. How is school ?
10. Good bye. See you later.
- Ask Ss to work in pairs.
- Have some Ss practise reading the sentences
- Check Ss’ attention to intonation and stress beside
pronunciation.
2, While- speaking: (18mn.s)
Task 2 : Rearrange the following sentences to make a
conversation and then practise it with a partner.
( textbook – page 25 )
- Answer orally:

4, Post –speaking : (15mn)
- Ask Ss to work in groups and do task 4 in textbook -
page 25.
Task 4 : Make small talks on the following topics, using
the starting and ending of a conversation given in task
1.
* Group 1: The weather
* Group 2,3: Last night’s TV programs
* Group 4: Football
* Group 5,6: Plans for next weekend
- Walk around the class and offers ideas and
comments if necessary, then select some pairs to
present their conversations in front of the class.
- Give suggestions and comments, give marks.
5/ Home work:(1mn.s)

- Write about the conversation done in groups.
