Task
Question 1: For each project, the role of project manager (PM) is often not the same. Due to
the nature, scale, culture, organization and efficiency projects bring. The main difference
above the requirements of PM skills needed in every organization is different. In order to
ensure a successful project, the project manager needs to have some skills to be effective as
belows.
- Essential skills and synthetic basically: the project management activities at the macro level.
It consists of several stages of work as planning, coordinating and controlling the activities
of the project. Essential skills and synthesis include a range of issues such as integrated
management of time, cost, human resources, quality, risk management trading activities ...
This skill is performed during the preparation phase of the investment to the operational phase
of the project results.
- Problem solving skills: For project work, not identified all risks or unexpected work is
actually happening out of the scope of work. Therefore, early detection of problems and
problem solving in the work of PM is very important. Problem solving skills to synthesize
many different skills such as the ability to detect potential problems early, gather information,
make decisions ... such as research skills to manage each problem part, determine the root
1

cause of the problem, analyzing the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.
In addition, the project manager needs to synthesis and analysis of thinking skills. A project

manager must be able to synthesize information and to arrange various information into a
meaningful sequence information overall. Analysis is a technique to split a large task into
components and work like the sort of work in the WBS.
- Communication skills and information in project management: Project management is the
sum of many ways, relationships need to coordinate uniform. To make the project work
should be required to proficient communication skills. Project managers must have
knowledge of the function of the room, have extensive knowledge of a number of technical
fields. Project managers also need good communication skills in communication, information
sharing skills between the members of the project and the people involved in the project
implementation process.
Communication skills are one of the skills that the project manager will spend 90% of the
time during the project. Good communication skills including verbal communication and
nonverbal allows a project manager to convey information in a way that all stakeholders
receive and understand it. The first skill needed is the ability to communicate, this skill is
paramount in that every project manager should try to achieve. Contact information is only
successful when both the sender and the receiver understand the same information, you
convey your thoughts and your ideas effectively. Communication skills require knowledge
of the documents they, the people, their attitude.
- Negotiation skills: project manager in the process of implementing its responsibilities
related to so many groups. Simultaneously with the development of the project organization
and responsibilities of managers is increasing but their power is not commensurate level. Due
to lack of power, managers must have good negotiation skills with the upper management
and the heads of department functions and expertise to the fullest backing of their superiors,
head to win the resources needed to implement the project.
The project manager must spend a large portion of their time to negotiate the resources,
equipment, and other support, if they do not have strong negotiation skills, your chances of
success in project management their greatly reduced. A large part of the negotiations taking
2

place internally to get resources, resources are granted at the request of other projects.
Negotiation is the process of reaching an agreement with each other, depending on the project
and the level structure that allows project managers to be able to represent the organization.
Negotiation usually involves compromise when the parties involved require changes or
changes to the project and its resources.
- Leadership: Leadership is fundamental to the management and direction, orientation, and
encourage collaboration among the members participating in the project. Leadership skills
must include: communication, team building, coaching, encouragement, decision making,
training, direction, convince / influence, negotiate, and support participants projects. Project
management must be sensitive to cultural differences when faced with different people and
their opinions. This is especially true for international project in which includes members of
diverse cultures.
- Skill in planning and controlling project: the project manager is responsible for the overall
plan before the financial investment and customers. So the project management skills to the
project schedule and identify the criteria to evaluate the completed work. At the same time
the project manager must know the set of processes, systems and controls to assess the degree
of completion of the work plan table. Managers need to plan to control the four main issues
of the project are: safety, quality, schedule and control the cost does not exceed a reasonable
estimate is approved, these issues important contribution in the success of the project.
- Technical skills : project manager must have the skills to run different management
techniques, processes, tools ... The project manager must know how to interpret reports
budget, know how to read a statistical study and understand the correct application of different
management methods. In addition, the project manager must have skills in the effective use
of information technology and communications to help them achieve greater efficiency in
their work. Technical skills related to the approach, working with the processes, tools, we
mention the use of expert knowledge and relevant experience and management methods
specific to the project implementation of project activities. The skills needed to effectively
communicate with the project team, risk assessment, and to make a balance between cost,
schedule, and quality time. The project manager does not do the actual work of the project,
they do not have the same technical level as those who perform the work. This is not to say

3

that the project manager does not need a technical level, where technical expertise is needed
to identify potential problems and increase the likelihood of project management area with
all aspects of the project .
Question 2: What three skills do you believe would be your strongest? Provide details, with
examples, on why you think these skills are your strongest.
Project management requires a set of skills and urethra must have extensive knowledge and
ability to synthesize, solve problems quickly and efficiently. But each time, the application
requires different skills managers to capture, for me the skills to complete as following:
- Problem solving skills: During project implementation, many of the components related to
the management of the project as general contractor, subcontractors, management agencies
and law. So not having a job is the same in every scope of a project or similar projects. To do
good work requires me to make a lot of decisions to tackle the job based on the knowledge
and skills to synthesize information, the ability to analyze and collect information from a
variety of sources, many relationships various stakeholders. For me, this is a strong point in
the project implementation process.
For example: In the process of implementation of the project, I have imported equipment with
radioactive impacts, the permit application is very difficult to manage. Especially for
individual organizations. The time license to import equipment as well as the expertise takes
a lot of time and expense. But when you have a good relationship from military agencies, and
cooperate with their side. Work imported equipment is quick and convenient.
- Essential skills and synthesis: This skill requires you to have logical thinking, the ability to
collect, selection of information, practical knowledge, generalized work to build up a
comprehensive picture about one or more issues which determine the causes, classification
and problem solving methods offer accordingly.
For example: During the construction and equipment installation, routine work must proceed
through several stages parallel reality. The influence of objective reasons to bring more
trouble and conflict arises especially with the implementation contractor for a work item. To

solve the problem, consider the comprehensive and overall, if it changes affect how the
project, which affect the construction process or not, implementation resources, materials,
4

affect the schedule, cost...
- Negotiation skills: This skill requires the ability collision, contact with partners.
Knowledgeable about the laws and the computing power to match job performance goals.
For example: In the extrusion process, the owner changed the original design for a device,
equipment or a simple phrase over and changed production materials. Then both the investor
and the contractor agreed to sit on many aspects such as engineering, installation plans,
investment value, time of manufacture, implementation progress ... This requires the
management skills to persuade and timely decisions to meet job.
Question 3: What three skills do you believe would be your weakest? Provide details, with
examples, on why you think these skills are your weakest.
- Leadership is an important skill that requires leadership and vision to lead and guide the
people in his group perform assigned tasks to complete common tasks of the organization.
On the other hand the leader must also know to encourage people to participate in all projects
with enthusiasm to complete the project together. At convergence leaders need enough hard
skills as well as soft skills to meet the job.
For example: In the beginning was appointed leader, by itself does not have the management
skills, ability grouping, vision and understanding between those who do the work. Resulted
not perform as expected and not easy to solve the root of the problem. Trickle-down effect
affecting other work and takes a lot of processing time.
- Communication skills: These are skills affect the ability to solve tasks. I myself have never
been trained and practiced in the project management environment, it is more demanding
skills in own personality and understanding.
For example: While performing a task related many different department, the parts need to
work together to address, however do not have the communication skills to the stakeholders
do not understand the need to share their problems change resulted in an out of work and

other aspects of the protracted and sometimes ineffective overall impact to the whole project.
- Technical skills: Project management requires a lot of depth to each capture device. Because
I myself trained trading and business so fast to grasp and understand the technical issues is
5

very difficult.
For example: In the process of project management generated a lot of changes, such as
changes in construction methods, changing some technical conditions to suit the actual
conditions. Requirements need to consider the appropriate level for decision-making is very
difficult work.
Question 4: Using the above six skills, what can you do to build on your strongest skills and
improve your weakest skills?
For the above skills are skills which project manager needs to have to tackle the job, frequent
updates, additional knowledge and access to the new job is the only method maintain and
improve the best for yourself and finish the job. For skill was not effective, need to be
involved more short-term training courses, additional knowledge, learning experience of their
predecessors and more involved in the work to be practical knowledge. Learning more skills
is the shortest way to achieve work efficiency. This is the ultimate goal of the project manager.
