In the class, I reviewed about Introduction to public policy and I studied about academic writing.
Some content and ideal I got from last semeter such as: government, politics, legal…
The stages of policy process: Identification of problem, policy formulation, policy adoption, policy
implemementation and policy evaluation.

What have you learned? What was good for you?

I think acacdemic writing was good for me. Maybe I have forgotten some ideas, but the way to have
a good sentence that what I want.

What do you want more of?
I want to have some model and quantitive method for policy analysis.

What was discussed in the class

Today, we have reviewed some key concepts: Indicators, Assessment, logical support, specificity of
expression, reality check, unintended consequence, 4W1H questions …
We also emphasised on the conceptual model of the policy cycle.

What have you learned? What was good for you?
I have new ideas about the intended consequence and unintended consequence of blockchain and
some new technology. Beside that, academic writing still makes me amazing.

Concept of opportunity cost, opportunity cost is a term used in economics, to mean the cost of
something in terms of an opportunity foregone (and the benefits that could be received from that
opportunity), or the most valuable foregone alternative.
Some concepts we had: the credibility, policy cycle, AI, technology….

I want to know more detail about AI, it maybe become the interesting topic.

Today we learned two world and three levels; positive and normative discussion; hypothesis and
assumption…
Besides,after analysing “Lao’s document”, we discuss the way to use some verbs: due to, affect,
prevent, impact, implication, “multi-sector approach”.
2. What have you learned? What was good for you?

I remember some mathematical and chemical concepts: Venn, implication, catalysis… I also
understand 4 graphs in the document.

What do you want more of?
I want to know the way to use quantitative and qualitative analysis in public policy.

1. What was discussed in the class
Today we compared “hypothesis” and “assumption”. Hypothesis is not to be proved but to be
verified, it is more neutral. Assumption is something you decide to be true.
We also learned 360* evaluation, the definition of “principle”, 2 types of goal (ultimate goal and
intermediate goal).
2. What have you learned? What was good for you?

When describe goal (goal statement), I should not to add any logic analysis, describe situation.
Goals are always intended, results can be intended or unintended.

What do you want more of?
I am looking forward to the next class, to know the efficient way to read document.

Today we discussed meaning of some words: verify, evaluation, condition…In English, “valuation” is
not used for problems, issues, situations…
We also talked about: gradient approach, deviance approach and the actions from 2 approaches are
different.

The gradient approach is based on hypothesis, so it is risky because I do not know whether there
are any factors that affect the dependent variables.

I want to see another case, because it is easy to understand.
