Conclusion
The purpose of moving production facilities to the seabed can be summarized as:
Increase hydrocarbon recovery (IOR) and accelerate production
Competitive CAPEX / OPEX compared to topsides equivalent (in most but not all cases)
Increase lifetime of existing installations
At large distances from the field to the shore
In the absence of infrastructure
Mining takes place in the deepwater
Reduce topsides space and weight when starting up new subsea fields
Enable marginal field developments
Realisation of “complex offshore” field development, including Arctic and deep water
Realisation in sensitive or harsh environment areas not allowing platform construction
