his21-yearcareerthere,heservedinmanytechnicalpositions;


in1984,hewaspromotedtocentralofficeequipmentengineer,
withaspecialtyintransmissionsengineering.Thisspecialfield
requiredthetasksofplanning,designing,andimplementing
opticaltransmissionnetworks,whileworkingcloselywith
outsideplantengineerstounderstandfiber-opticcable
characteristicsandspecificationsthatwouldbethefoundation
foropticaltransmitters,receivers,andrepeaterstocome
togethertoformopticaltransmissionnetworks.
In1991,Mikemovedonfromthetelephonecompanytopursue
otheropportunities.Hehada14-monthassignmentwiththe
UniversityofNorthCarolinaatCharlottetoengineeranoptical
networkforthecampus,anda3-yearassignmentwithICG,
Inc.,amajorCLECwithanopticalnetworkintheCharlotte,
NorthCarolinamarket,whereheprovidedtechnicalsupportfor
thelocalsalesteams.Mikehada7-yearassignmentwith
FujitsuNetworkCommunications,Inc.,amajormanufacturerof
opticaltransmissionsystems,whereheservedasaSales
EngineerfortheSoutheastterritory.Mikehasservedas
presidentofthelocalchapteroftheIndependentTelephone
PioneersAssociation,whichisacivicorganizationthatsupports
multiplecharitiesinthePalmettoState.
