InOctober,1998,CiscotookastepforwardinitsentryintoIP
TelephonywiththeacquisitionofSelsiusSystems,apioneer
andinnovatorofnextgenerationnetworkPBXsystemsforhighqualitytelephonyoverIPnetworks.Thisbegantherevolutionof
convergeddata,voiceandvideonetworksrenderingseparate
voiceanddatanetworksathingofthepast.Ciscoisoneofthe

providersdeliverconvergingtraditionalvoice,data,andvideo
applications.
TheoverallIPcommunicationindustryhasgainedsignificant
