Period 58: LESSON 1 – READING

Aims
1. Objectives


Students will read a passage about the life undersea world (marine life)
By the end of the lesson, Ss understand about the topic and related things by doing
some reading comprehensions such as gap-filling, question answering and
summarizing the passage.
With the knowledge about the oceans in the world (from geography subject), about
marine life (from biography subject), summarizing a passage skills (from literature
subject) and some lesson about environment protection (from civil education
subject), students have to prepare the lesson before the class as asked so that they
will understand the lesson better. Moreover, they have to work in groups to prepare
some talks about the topic lesson to present in front of the class.
2. Teaching aids
A world map; some pictures about marine life; a clip introducing marine life to the
students.
Projector, sub-boards, and a laptop.

Procedures

A. Organization
- Greeting
- Asking some questions to wake Ss up
B. Warm-up
- Let Ss play a small crossword game to
find out the topic of the lesson
- Introduce the game: A crossword game
with 5 cross words and 1 key word (7
letters) which is related to the topic of the
lesson.
- Set the game: divide the class into 2
groups namely Sharks and Dolphins. 2
groups take turns to choose the number,

answer the questions behind and find out
key letters which make key words. After

4. EU stands for ___ Union. -> European
5. Which continent is the neighbor of Asia?

 Key word: PACIFIC (the name of one
ocean in the world. )

 Prize: a short film about marine life.

 Lead in: You’ve just seen some kinds
of animals which live undersea world.
Our lesson today is about oceans in
the world and marine life- plants and
animals undersea world.

I. Before you read
1. The oceans and marine life
Activity 1:
- Let Ss introduce some knowledge of the
oceans in the world prepared at home
before the class which includes some
important information learnt from
geography.
Activity 2:
- Check Ss’ listening by asking them to
label the names of 5 oceans in the world
map and then give Vietnamese names of
these.
Activity 3:
- Let Ss study something about marine life
through the cartoon Finding Nemo and
then do one small task given in the book.
