INTRODUCTION
1. Reasons to choose a topic
1.1. Literature in the first half of the Twentieth Century (1900– 1945) has
played a special role, particularly in the history of ethnic literature – the opening
phase of modern Vietnamese literature. This literary process took place during the
long period of time (less than half a century), but it was fully qualified for a literary
period. Although that has been investigated, however, Vietnamese literature in the
first half of the twentieth century (1900 – 1945), has many things that must be
further clarified, including problems of the creative inspirations of literary biases.
1.2. The issue of creative inspiration for literature and art always has a
significant role. Before a reality as social reality in Vietnam first half of the
Twentieth century, there were many new problems, phenomena of life impacting
strongly on writers. There are many inspirational circuit lines appeared in the
literature, which has inspired the move. This is an inspiring new circuit line in
Vietnam literature, being particularly an important role to help writers towards new
horizons of creativity in literature, art and give them a chance to join modern
European literature - West world.
1.3. The appearance of inspiration movement for Vietnamese literature in the
first half of the twentieth century (1900– 1945) was expressed by many authors in
many different artistic tendencies, especially in romance and romantic tendencies
(with two export delegates top color: Tan Da and Nguyen Tuan). It’s shown that this
is a problem has profound rule. Inspiration movement with a lot of new contents
(moving to escape from the cramped, ridiculous constraints; moving to escape the
dark reality, deadlock; moving to unleash what I long imprisonment; moving to
change , finding the new, exotic ones; moving for freedom; move for unconscious
purposes, moving only to move, etc.) It is currently a big problem with many
questions such as where the basis are, where the meaningful content of society and
its deep aesthetic are, where the lively art world originality created thanks to
inspiration movement and methods is, how to create it?...
So far, inspiration move in Vietnamese literature in the first half of the


Twentieth century (1900– 1945) has been only known through pieces of several
authors/writers, however, they have been still too thin. That means this inspiration
has just been "spotted", swallowed and digested in creative aspects by a few
artists. The Mints and scientific generalizations about inspiration movement
throughout a period of literature have not been completed and deepened as its right
level of containing. It’s essential that there should be a deep research about it. This

research not only fulfilled uncompleted one on inspiration movement of a particular
era but also suggested the matter be reasoning, methodological significance.
1.4. Exclusive Studies in Vietnam in the first half of the twentieth century
(1900 - 1945) also has a practical significance for teaching – in this part (with many
excellent phenomena: Tan Da, Nguyen Tuan, a new poet 1932 - 1945, authors of Tu
Luc Van Doan, ...) at school. The research results of the thesis may be useful
references for those who are interested in modern literary Vietnam, the first half of
the twentieth century (1900- 1945).
2. The object of research and the limits of the subject
2.1. Research objects
As the name of the subject was defined, the object of research is Inspiration
movement in Vietnamese literature in the first half of the twentieth century (1900 –
1945).
2.2. The limit of the subject
Topics cover the entire Vietnamese literary creation in the first half of the
twentieth century (1900-1945) were written from inspiration movement, however,
they will focus on the typical phenomenon such as poetry and prose of Tan Da, the
new trend of poet 1932- 1945; composes of Nguyen Tuan, proses of Tu Luc Van
Doan,…

3. Purposes and tasks of research
3.1. Purposes of research
Through surveys, analysis, interpretation of inspiration movement in
Vietnamese literature in the first half of the twentieth century (1900– 1945) both in
terms of contents and modes of presentation, the thesis aims identify characteristics
and roles of this circuit inspiration for the literary history of the nation on the path to
modernity, communication and integration with world literature with a view to
suggesting some problems of research about inspiration movement in modern
Vietnamese literature.
3.2. Tasks of research

3.2.1. On the basis of identity, embracing the circuit of inspiration movement in
Vietnamese literature in the first half of the twentieth century (1900- 1945), the
thesis overviewed issues of research and established the theoretical basis for the
implementation of the subject .
3.2.2. Identify the cultural preconditions, social, aesthetic- the basis for the
emergence of inspiration in Vietnamese literature in the first half of the twentieth
century (1900 – 1945).
3.2.3. An insight into the survey, an analysis the contents of the inspiration
movement in Vietnamese literature in the first half of the twentieth century (19001945).
3.2.4. An insight into the survey, an analysis of the methods shown inspirational
literature move Vietnam's first half of the twentieth century (1900– 1945).
Finally, some conclusions about the role and social meaning – sense of
inspiration movement in Vietnamese literature in the first half of the twentieth

4. Research Methodology
Choosing the subject for Inspiration movement in Vietnamese literature in the
first half of the twentieth century (1900– 1945), author of the thesis applied many
different research methods, which mainly means following measures:
4.1. Historical method: historical method helps to recognize, define the journey
of Inspiration movement in Vietnamese literature in the first half of the twentieth
century (1900 - 1945), renews the main aspects of the historical context - cultural social impact having an influence on the new unique circuit of inspiration.
4.2. Analysis methods- synthesis: This method helps to analyze and synthesize
the issues, the content-oriented survey of the thesis.
4.3. Comparative method- type: This method is used for comparison, compare
the similarities and differences, diversity and consistency of content from inspiration

movement created by a number of authors with multiple methods and forms different writing genres.
4.4. Interdisciplinary method: This method helps to mobilize the knowledge of

some other sectors such as culture, philosophy, psychology, linguistics ... to refer
and illuminate the surveyed issues learnt in the thesis.
4.5. A structured approach- system: Set of literary works in the system shifted
literary genre of the period 1900- 1945, and identifying the internal structure of this
piece.
5. Contribution of the thesis
Thesis is the process of understanding, research Inspiration movement in
Vietnamese literature in the first half of the twentieth century (1900– 1945), with a
look of concentration and system.
The thesis is an effort to cover, identify, review research issues and established
the theoretical basis for the research of Inspiration movement in Vietnamese
literature in the first half of the twentieth century (1900– 1945).
Thesis contributes not only to build, sketch modern Vietnamese literary
paintings in the first half of the twentieth century (1900– 1945) around inspiration
movement but also through explore characters of a literary period ethnic when being
written by inspiration movement – an unique new vein of inspiration, but it used to
be recognized and assessed improperly, unscientifically.
The research results of the thesis can be used as a reference for the study and
use in teaching in the school of modern Vietnamese Literature in general, as well as
a number of authors whose works linked to movement topics selected to teach at
school such as Tan Da, Nguyen Tuan, New Poems 1932– 1945, ...
6. Structure of thesis
Introduction, Conclusion, and References, the main content thesis is divided
into 4 chapters:
Chapter 1. Overview of research and theoretical foundations of the topic.
Chapter 2. The premise of the appearance of inspiration movement in
Vietnamese literature (1900-1945).
Chapter 3. The basic content of inspiration movement in Vietnamese literature
(1900-1945).
Chapter 4. The expressions of inspiration movement in Vietnamese literature

(1900-1945).
Chapter 1
GENERAL SITUATION OF RESEARCH
AND THE THEORETICAL BASIS OF THE SUBJECT

1.1. Overview of research situation
The period 1900– 1945 literature has an important position in the development
of ethnic literature. Thus, studies on the history of literature this period obvious
focus of attention at an elevation from the researchers. On the modern look can find
3 sexual orientation research focus: research from the perspective of literary
history; research from the perspective of the French school exam and learning style
of art and research from the perspective of creative inspiration.
1.1.1. General research Vietnamese literature in the first half of the

the early twentieth century to 1945 completely eligible of a literary period. The
research of a problem (such as a circuit line inspired creativity flows throughout this

completely scientific basis and is required. Also from here to see the rule of a

finding out some features relating to ideas or style of art of inspiration movement in
works of Tan Da, Nguyen Tuan, New Poet and Prose of Tu Luc Van Doan.

1.1.1.3. Research Vietnamese literature in the first half of the twentieth century

Overall, from the point of view of inspiration, when researching on Tan Da,
New Poems, Tu Luc Van Doan, researchers sought to understand in the specific
aspect is: romantic inspiration, inspirational reality inspirational, patriotic, religious,
inspirational, ...
1.1.2. On learning, research inspiration movement in Vietnamese literature in
the first half of the twentieth century (1900 – 1945)
1.1.2.1. In poetry
Studies inspiration movement in poetries of Tan Da and New poems,

and practical area.
1.2. The theoretical basis of the subject

1.2.1. Theoretical studies of inspiration and inspiration movement in literary
creation
Problem inspiration for the artist always has the role of primary importance,
without it there can not be the writings arts. In literary theory in the West and the
East, the researchers famously lot of discussions on this issue, typified notions of
Hegel (Aesthetics); Bielinxki, E.G. Rudneva (Introduction to the study of
literature); Le Quy Don, Nguyen Quynh (From the heritage); ...
From the late nineteenth century, the West has appeared neo-shifting, shifting
theory with many outstanding representatives André Gide, Paul Morand, Friedrich

Thesis will use several methods of research have been many researchers use
such poetic school, psychoanalysis, theoretical expression object, aesthetic theory,
cultural studies, .... to solve each problem-specific research inspired literary shifting
during 1900 -1945.
1.2.3. The concept of "movement" and inspired by "movement" in literary
creation
Concept inspiration movement in the literature can be understood as the

science for the implementation of the subject .
Thirdly, the thesis also gives the conception of inner inspiration shifting
terminology in literature, as well as differentiated concept with some concepts that
reach as sense objects exile, escapist literature. This is an important theoretical
premise serves as the basis for the survey and analyze the specific dimensions of
inspiration shifted in modern literature Vietnam first half of the twentieth century.

The context of economy, society and policy of Vietnam in the first half of the

modernized. That is an inevitable trend, the urgent need of both objective and
subjective. Literature can not exist as it used to - framed in the rules, can not be for
the idle, ... Literature has to express spirit and new aspirations of people, including
spiritual, yearning for a change, movement, looking for something new, something
different from the old ones, estating of a bygone era ...
2.1.2. The premise from the influence of culture and Western literature on
Vietnam in the first half of the twentieth century (from 1900 to 1945)
2.1.2.1. The effects on the level of ideas and theories
In the period from 1930 to 1945, artists forces tried to promote the
modernization of literary none other than the writers new type- those who are trained
by Western education, especially those who were directly studied in France. The
emergence of the West, the Western idea, whether direct or indirect, by the way of
science, life or literature, can form the basis for inspiration shifting during the
Vietnamese Literature in the half of the early twentieth century.

According to philosophy, one of the Western philosophical thoughts had a great
influence on literature of Vietnam in 1900– 1945 is the philosophical thought of
Nietzsche. One of the most important philosophical concepts of his influential
literary depth to Vietnam is the theory of human superheroes (or hero- Superman).
2.1.2.2. Implications from the practice composing
If the premise aesthetics on the move in medieval literature has greatly

Chapter 3
THE BASIC CONTENT OF THE INSPIRATION MOVEMENT
IN VIETNAMESE LITERATURE 1900 - 1945

6. Studying in inspiration movement of Vietnamese literature in the first half of
the twentieth century (1900 – 1945) is really an interesting problem which is
considered significantly in a varity of features, especially in society and beauty.
The researcher has a look at in not only an obvious way but also a comlicated
issue not solved completely such as our guided things. To be honest, there is a
requirement not only a more research but also working of a lot of people to carry out
this issue perfectly. Nowadays, travelling is considered as an interesting issue
known worldwide; the young have been eager with the trend called “ Phuot ”. In this
case, there are so many people who have no intention of becoming a writer,
however, they want to “ write about their life”, there are some works written from
inspiration movement such as: Nonsese Story , Being alone in EU – Phan Viet, The
sign of foot left by his wife, Tibet – Flower in sunshine – Van Cam Hai, The
excursion of the young, Paris in dream – Duong Thuy, etc ….. in modern literature.
“This young literature ” is in paralell with the works of Thuan (Novels: Chinatown,
T being lost. Hanoi, Saigon, Paris); Doan Minh Phuong (Novels : Being in dust,
Rain in afterlife ); Nguyen Van Tho (Novels: Quyen, Peach Blossom); etc…, which
indicates that inspiration movement (or relating to Movement) in modern literature
has been an inspiration researchers can not help concerning.
