For school children, their teachers have more influence on
their intelligence and social development than their parents.
To what extend do you agree or disagree?
In contemporary life, there are some arguments which compare the
importance of teachers and parents in educating children. Some people
suppose that intellectual and social growth of students absorb more impact
from their teachers. From my point of view, I disagree with this opinion.
Obviously, teachers influence their students in many aspects. Firstly, in
schools, children have to study several subjects like maths, physics, literature,
history and some other subjects. These subjects play vital roles in improving
students’ intelligence and they are being taught by teachers. Secondly, in the
lessons, apart from providing students’ insights into certain subjects, they also
organize activities to make the lecture be more attractive and indirectly creat
an environment that stimulate teamwork skills, communicational skills of
students. Finally, education in school also teach the children moral lessons and
through these lessons teachers can tell their experiences as illustrations for the
lessons. Some stories could contain personal perspective of teacher and
gradually influence students’ social behavior.
On the other hand, parents’ contribution to students’ development is
indispensable. From the moment when we are born to our maturity, parents
are the people whom we have the most bonding time with. Parents educate us
the first lesson about morality and fulfil our curiosity about the world by
answering our innocent questions. Babies imitate parents’ behavior and
speech. Unlike teachers who directly give us knowledge through lectures,
parents unintentionally educate by telling us fairy tales and giving us advice
when we tackle with problems.
In conclusion, parents’ role should not be underestimated. Fully grown
children in terms of intelligence and social aspects are influenced by both
teachers and parents. None of them outweigh the other.
