PREFACE
1. The necesssity of the research
The reality of orienting industrial cultural value of Vietnamese people in
general, the young generation in particular is still hot issue. The human value
system varies with the socio-economic changes; however, the old value is lost
and new industrial values have not yet been established, there is still an arbitrary
working style; lack of discipline; lack of personal self-responsibility; afraid to
change ... [65]. This has led to the fact that the younger generation may lose the
traditional cultural values, have to face with more difficulties in integration and
seek employment opportunities. Students majoring in human resource
management (HRM) are now gradually integrating with the world economy but
lacking their own industrialistic values.

CHAPTER 1
OVERVIEW OF RESEARCH RELATED TO THE DISSERTATION
TOPIC
1.1. Overview of research related to orientation of industrial culture value
of human resource management students
1.1.1. Researches on culture and cultural values
For an organization, culture is " collection of values, attitudes, beliefs and
meanings, shared by all members of organization". This is the first sign to
distinguish social groups (Duarte D.L & Snyder N .T., 2001) [102]
Soviet researcher V.M.Me-giuep said that cultural values are expressed as
certain social relations, exist objectively, in association with the development of
human personality. Therefore, social relations are a criterion of personality
development and also means its cultural value. German researcher Ec-Hac-Don
said that cultural values as a whole of social life values are the internal
motivations to promote people in the process of labour, production and
education, training [15].
Determining industrial cultural values is not only of interest in Western
countries, where developed industries, but also in Asian countries, it is also
concerned and become the rules and standards in the fields. In Korean
enterprise, the regulations on manners, ceremonies, costumes ... are very strict
and are complied with voluntarily.
Thus, although the industrial cultural value is new content in Vietnam,
however the authors initially mentioned the industrial cultural standards and
different point which help students need to prepare the qualities. and the
capacity required by the new period. These research results are the initial basis
to help the universities gradually equip with knowledges, skills and gradually
adapts to new requirements. Researching orientation industrial cultural value of
human resource management students is a big gap, needing the attention and

research of scientists.
7

1.1.2. Researches on industrial culture value and value orientations

Vietnamese people today, code KX-07-02, is edited by Phan Huy Le - Vu Minh
Giang [67]; Values, orientaions personality values and training values of the
code number KX-07-04 are headed by Nguyen Quang Uan [43]. In addition
traditional values, new values have appeared ..., and there has also been a
tendency to seriously to personal values and material values that disregarded
social and spiritual values. Since, the authors offer solutions to adjust and
educate to orientate value for people, especially young generationin the new
period.
Author Dao Thi Oanh in "Theoretical and practical industrial culture"
(2015) pointed out the theoretical and practical basis of industrial culture, the
author proposed four industrial culture standards of high school students such
as; Industrial thinking; Social responsibility; Industrial style; Conducting
industrial ethics. The book has initially indicated basic industrial culture
standards for students through common ten industrial culture values such as
respecting knowledge, adapting to change, critical thinking ... but the author has
not gone into analyze and mention deeply about the industrial culturel values of
students [40].
The above scientific works, the authors have analyzed and assessed the
status of expression of morality, lifestyle of students and youth generation.
When analyzing the manifestations, the scientists pointed out the positives and
limitations of morality, lifestyle and compared their developments at different
time points. According to these researchers, the socio-economic development
trend of our country is both as motivation and demand of the development of
Science Technology, culture - education ... is a opportunity for the development

of students.

11

Paths, Harmin, and Simon in their book "Values and Teaching" presented
seven stages of the process of value orientation. The seven stages are based on
three basic processes: selection, consideration and action, detail:
- The selection stage consists of the following steps:(Choose freedom; Choose
from different options; The choice is based on the predicted possible outcome of
each option). This is the period when individuals select randomly industrial
cultural values in accordance with their own conditions and characteristics. For
example: Students stand before an event, phenomenon and they choose honesty
or lie based on their cognitive ability, ability to respond.
- The stage of consideration (evaluation) includes the following steps
(Mindfulness; Affirmation): This is the period where students express their
feelings with a choice, students can be happy or bored, disappointed by their
choice when standing in front of industrial cultural values.
- The action state consists of steps (Action by choice; Repeat the action). This is

an important stage in the process of forming industrial cultural values. The three
steps in the process of orienting industrial cultural value of human resource
management specialized students are closely related to each other and affected
by many different factors such as cognitive ability, living environment and
personal psychological characteristics...ect.

industrial culture and the orientation of industrial cultural values„s students
shows that the different approaches to the values and orientations of the students
industrial cultural values have been create conditions to clarify the research
problem of the dissertation, from here, it shows the characteristics, nature and
structure of the orientation of industrial culture value‟s students specialized
human resources management.
The dissertation has initially generalized the structure, the level of
expression and the factors affecting on industrial culture values of students
through learning, relationships with teachers, friends, the environment and the
society has proposed a number of impact measures to contribute to improving
the orientation of industrial culture values of students.
Synthesis of theoretical research, allowing the author to build basic
concepts of the dissertation. The orientation of industrial culture values of
human resource management students is the reception and expression of the
system of standard values, beliefs, attitudes and behaviors of each student,
playing an important role in forming and developing student personality in the
new period.

year, fourth year of three universities. The manifestations of the behavior of
orienting industrial cultural values very among schools, year and gender. The
results are obtained in the following table:

Industrial cultural values

Figure 3.1 Expression of the industrial culture orientation of human resources
management specialized students
The table of results shows that the expression of orienting industrial
cultural value of students is different. Expressing the value "Respect for
knowledge" has the highest mean with 4.01, ranking the first. Next is the
expression of the value " Appreciate efficiency” with mean of 3.88, ranked the
second. Having the lowest mean is an expression of the value "Scientific plan”
with 3.20 and " Collaboration” has a mean score of 3.23. This proves that,
students majoring in HRM are very eager to learn, to be hard to explore, to
16

discover new knowledge. Besides, the students also show their respect for the
commitment, very keeping their promises and their promises. This has existed
since time immemorial in Vietnamese proverb "Say words to keep words, do
not be like a butterfly and then fly" was educated from an early age, so
ingrained in the minds of every Vietnamese people. Two values are extremely
important foundations to help students specialized in HRM have the human
qualities and personality in the new period, ready to integrate with the global
economy.
However, the reality of students is still limited in soft skills, especially in
teamwork and cooperation skills, is also revealed through the results with a very
low mean of 3.20 of the value “scientific plans "and 3.23 of "Cooperation ".
Cooperation skills of working together of students are still limited. This is
clearly shown when the author observes groups presenting in class, only some
of them are active with their topic and the other are indifferent, listless or even
friends, working in private in class. Further discussing this issue through the
question "What do you benefit from preparing a group presentation?", The
author obtained the answer of student V.H T, a third-year student at the NEU
responded that “my group has 5 friends, but in reality there are only 2 of us who
really do and are responsible for our group's topic, and the other ones are very
indifferent, their comments are also weak. The psychology relies on others and
waits for luck if the leader is enthusiastic, the whole group will get high scores.
” . Thus, it is clear that the group cohesion and teamwork efficiency of students
are not high, have not met teachers' expectations, and increasingly do not
promote the collective intellectual strength of the team members. This result
stems from many causes and is also the basis for the author to propose
experimental measures to improve the honesty and cooperation to gradually
improve the orientation of industrial cultural values‟s HRM specialized
students.

17

- There is a difference in the expression of orienting idustrial cultural values like
academic years and gender. Among the three surveyed universities, the NEU
showed the highest orientation, followed by the TMU and finally the ULSA.
The difference also shows in the school years, the fourth year has quite a full
expression of industrialistic values and is higher than the 2nd and 3rd years.
- Pearson correlation coefficients and regressions on the orientation of the
cultural values‟s students. Before regression, the author analyzed the EFA
factor, examining the industrial cultural values are grouped into 3 groups: (1)
Critical thinking; (2) Industrial style; (3) ethical conduct and social
responsibility are grouped into a separate group. Afterwards, we conducted a
linear regression between the dependent variable and the independent variable,
checked whether there is a phenomenon of multicollinearity between the
independent variables or not, the author conducted linear correlation run and
obtained the following results:

social responsibility" increases by 1 unit, the student's industrial cultural
expression increases to 0.385 unit. The standard regression value of the factor
"Ethical conduct and social responsibility" accounts for 38,5% of the orientation
of industrial cultural value of HRM specialized students;
icates that when the expression"Critical thinking"
increases by 1 unit, the expression of industrial cultural increases to 0.308 units.
The regression value of the factor " Critical thinking" accounts for 30,8% of the
value orientation of industrial cultural of HMR specialized students;

unit, the average industrial cultural values is increased to 0.308 units. The
standard regression value of the factor "Industrial style" accounts for 30.5% of
the industrial culture value of HRM specialized students.

18

The disappearance of "social responsibility" and its included in in the
ethical which is one of the manifestations of the limited industrialistic value.
This comes from many reasons, according to the author, students have not yet
realized the clarity between morality and responsibility. Some children even
equate morality and responsibility.
Orientation of industrial cultural values is influenced by many factors,
especially those belonging to subjective factors such as: Self-discipline,
activeness, initiative, motivation for learning and vocational training of
students. The objective factors have a lower level of influence and are also
influenced mainly by factors such as career requirements, higher education
innovation, and particularly the characteristics of the HRM sector.
- Measures to develop the orientation of industrial cultural values for students
majoring in human resources management
In order to learn students' self-assessment of measures to develop an
orientation of industrialization, author offer 4 measures. After testing the
reliability of the scale with Cronbach Alpha = 0.754 of 4 items greater than 0.6
enough for us to analyze the measures, author processed the information using
SPSS software and obtained the following results:
Measure 1: Raise awareness of the importance of industrialistic value
orientation through professional organizational activities
Measure 2: Gradually build close relationships with domestic and foreign
enterprise organizations.
Measure 3: Strengthening facilities and favorable conditions for career
orientation „s HRM students.
Measure 4: Plan and regularly update domestic, regional and world human
resources needs.

3.2. Result of impact empirical research
In the limited scope of the disertation, the impact by organizing seminars,
exchanges, career clubs, teaching activities ... has obtained very positive initial
19

results. The author believes that if continuing to implement, the development of
the industrial cultural orientation for HRM students will be able to contribute
significantly to improving the quality of training creating a specialization in
HRM students at the Universities to better meet the needs of high-quality labor
resources in the new period.
3.3. Orienting industrial cultural values in human resource management
through analyzing some typical psychological portraits
Through in-depth analysis of two cases of typical psychological portraits,
author also found that the orientation industrial cultural values is influenced by
many different factors, including both objective and subjective factors such as
self-education, the ability to perceive the training program and the training
activities of the universities have a strong influence on the development of the
student's industrial cultural values. In addition, through the study of
psychological portraits, the author also discovered and clarified a number of
other factors that have certain effects on the direction of the students'
industrialistic value such as efforts, volition, needs for success ... These factors
have two-sided nature. Negative effects such as when the family economic
conditions are wealthier, they often form moral hazard psychological, running
follow material values. On the contrary, poor family life is often the motivation
to help them rise up, strive in learning, cultivate trained professional qualities,
bravery and confidence of workers in the integration period..
Conclusion of chapter 3
The results of the research on the status of orienting industrial cultural
values in HRM specialized students show that:

- The orientation of industrial cultural value of HRM students abundant
expression and complexly about the physiological development of students as
well as the variety of world and regional career trends; In which the most
obvious expression of the orientation of the industrial cultural value of students
is the factor of social responsibility; This shows that, most students just stop at
20

determining their fulfillment in their work, in life, limited in thinking ability,
ability to adapt to new conditions, skills cooperation and moral qualities in the
future.
- Chi - square cross-correlation test shows the difference in awareness, attitude
and expression of the orientation of industrial cultural values of HRM students
of universities, years and gender; There is a close relationship between
awareness, attitude and behavior of the orientation of industrial cultural values.
The higher the awareness of the importance of the industrial cultural values, the
students have good an attitude, like and enjoying a lot and showing behaviors
on a regular quite, very often and opposite.
- Moreover, the linear regression correlation results also show the trend change
of the industrial cultural values of HRM specialized students. In particular, the
factor 'Ethical conduct and social responsibility' is the factor that tends to have
the strongest impact with 38,% on the development of the orientation of
industrial cultural „s HRM specialized students.
- The results of the research on the factors affecting the orientation of industrial
cultural values of HRM specialized students have shown that: the subjective
factor has a stronger impact on than the objective factors.
- The research of typical psychological portraits shows that the orientation
industria cultural values in HRM specialzed students is developed depending on
factors such as: professional social activities, family, collective activities, ability
to self-consciousness …. The influence of these factors have two-sided nature,

especially family factors;
- The impact of experiment has been confirmed that the appropriate impact
measures will gradually change the orientation of the industrial cultural value of
students which has change positive trend for integration in the context of using
technology into education; To formulate intellectual action for students, training
can to follow a three-step process of seven stages.

21

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS
1. Conclusion
1.1. The majority of HRM specialzed students have been aware of the industrial
cultural values in society such as: honesty, cooperation, respect for discipline,
respect for commitment, scientific planning, attaching importance to efficiency,
adaptability, critical thinking, and respect for knowledge which plays an
important role in career values that help students integrate in the new period.
1.2. There are many factors that affect on the orientation of industrial cultural
value of HRM specialized students. The most significant is the subjective
factors such as needs, motive, positive in learning of students. Therefore, it is
necessary to help students be aware of needs, motivate learning, and practice the
industrial culture values.
1.3. The in-depth study of two typical psychological portraits has shown that, in
addition to the factors affecting on the industrial culture value of HRM
specialized students, they have been surveyed on a large scale such as selfstriving efforts, family economic conditions and especially the emotional
strength of the family members.
1.4. Forming and developing intellectual action for students through three
processes of seven stages. Measures to develop the orientation of industrial
cultural

values

for HRM

specialzed

students should be conducted

synchronously in an environment that is strictly controlled and flexibly
implemented, depending on the psychological characteristics of students. These
measures are both consistent with the general educational goals and specific in
order to equip specific knowledge and vocational skills for HRM specialized
students.
1.5. Experimental results have shown that the cognitive aspects, attitudes and
behavior of students had an average score increased after conducting a series of
experimental impact measures over a period of one year. However, students'
awareness about industrial thinking is still limited, so the results of the
22

experimental average point decrease compared with the first self-assessment
results.
2. Recommendations
The orientation of industrial cultural value of HRM specialized students
is currently changing in a positive trend, partly showing the characteristics of
the students, the adaptive advantage of students towards the goal of developing
well and matching the variables change of world and regional career trends.
Therefore, in order to best promote the human factor, creating resources for the
socio-economic development, author suggest to should focus on the following
aspects:

2.1. With the universities
The orientation of industrial cultural value plays an important role in the career
of each student. Therefore, the curriculum training content should integrated
education in orienting industrial cultural values for HRM specialized students
with other training contents.
2.2. With lecturers
Improving the teaching method of teachers towards approaching modern
teaching methods, applying information technology to training.

Special

attention to the exemplary method. Lectures should always be exemplary in
lifestyle, manners, scientific thinking, working effectively ... for students to
follow them.
2.3. For students specialized in Human Management:
Students are hight level objects, the subject of the process of absorbing
the social impacts and requirements of social. Therefore, students need to be
proactive, positive, self-seeking and exploring to discover new knowledge and
career values suitable to their own abilities. But there are also students whose
expression is not quite suitalbe with career requirements in the new period. It is
necessary to have close coordination of measures to achieve high efficiency,
close control and timely adjustments.
