Passage 1
Computers are helpful in many ways: first, they are very fast. They can work with information
much more quickly than a person. Second, computers can work with a lot of information at the same time.
Third, they can keep it for a long time. They do not forget things the way people do. Also computers are
almost always correct. They don't usually make mistakes.
These days, it is important to know something about computers. There are a number of ways to
learn. Some companies have classes at work. Also, most universities offer day and night courses in
computer science. Another way to learn is from a book. There are many books about computers in
bookstores and libraries. Or you can learn from a friend. After a few hours of practice you can work with
computers.

Passage 2
We use the Students' Centre a lot. The college is a long way from the centre of the town, and
having this centre means we don't have to travel into town every time we want to buy something, The shop
has food like milk, bread, eggs.,. and it also sells newspapers, There is a laundry with six washing
machines, where we can do the ironing, too. More importantly, there is a Clinic which employs a doctor
and a nurse. That's only during the day. If a student has a problem at night, there's an emergency number -
7014822. Another important thing is the Advice Centre, which is open 24 hours a day, If a student needs
someone’s help, he can come there and talk about his/ her problem.
What's nice about the Students' Centre is that it's a new building, a bright and happy place to be in.

Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland. There are many interesting things for you to see there. It may
take 2 or 3 days to have a look around the city.
First is the zoo, which is open between 9a.m and 6p.m, 365 days a year. The zoo is only 15
minutes' drive from the city centre.
Second is the historical Duddy Church which is open to visitors every weekday. Tea will be served
in this twelfth century church in the afternoon.
One of the best ways to see this beautiful city is to join a coach tour. The tours cover all parts of

day.

Passage 4
One of the most famous Russion composers of the nineteenth century, Peter Illich Tchaikovsky, was born
on May 7, 1840. Tchaikovsky studied music as a child and later studied composition at the St.Petersburg
Conservatory. His greatest period of productivity was between 1876 and 1890. During that time
Tchaikovsky created the music for which he is most famous, including the music for the ballets of Swam
Lake and The Sleeping Beauty. Tchaikovsky’s music, well known for its rich melody, was one of the first
that brought serious music to dance. Before this, little attention had been given to the music of the dance.
Tchaikovsky died on November 6, 1893.

Emilio grew up on a farm in Argentina. He left school at the age of fourteen, and started working

little. When he was 22, he married Pilar, a girl from the next village, and they have been happily married
