Acknowledgements
Dear Professors,
Internship period is a very important chance for every college student, and it is also a
good opportunity for real practice. I realize that the internship always brings real
knowledge and experience which is necessary for each student’s future job .
In addition, this opportunity helps every university pre-graduated student improve the
soft skills as well as social skills and ability of every university pre-graduated student.
Because we usually learn theories, it can be said that graduation practice is the best
opportunity to apply what each student learn in particular work . On the other hand, after
this internship, we have learned a lot things that teacher did not mention in studying
process.
Thanks for teacher’s direction and the great support from all senior partners, I have been
able to successfully complete this internship report. I would like to express my respect to
my teacher.

Yours sincerely,
Student,
Nguyen Phan Nhat Linh

CHAPTER 2
A.
I.

JOB DESCRPTION ( MY INTERNSHIP)

My position:
- I was delegated to be a translator trainee. My key responsibility is according to
translating all English papers, materials, records relating to any fields into
Vietnamese. In case of travelling abroad, I shall interpret English into Vietnamese
for customers and guide them fill in application or help them fill in the application
form. Another responsibilities are receiving, arranging and returning records.

II.

-

My working hours: From 8.00 a.m to 5 p.m

-

My trainer: Lawyer Vo Hong Nga and Lawyer Vo Quoc Tri
Four working weeks:
1. The 1st internship week:
This is the training week as at this time, I have to be acquainted with the new

working environment. When I know exactly my position, I got some nervous due to high
pressure. Being a translator, I have to face to the deadline, make sure that I should meet

all customer’s requirements and expectation, I should have a wide knowledge about any
fields which is related to the documents that I take charge to do. I was not allowed to
translate any papers on the first week, but I had time to observe and learn what I would
do. After that, my trainer guided me some instructions about the way of presenting
clearly, slightly.
On the other hand, I also had to learn how to receive customer’s folder, papers and
how to arrange them.
I learnt how to read materials relating to the translation, I made acquaintance with
basic translation forms such as: Birth Certificate, Identity Card, Marriage Certificate. I
also learnt how to use Photocopier, the fax machine, the scan machine.
2. The second week
A week passed, I started practicing simple works. Below are the first steps:

7

-

I received 3 travelling folders ( German, Australia and US) and followed the
instruction.

-

I classified them and copied from main folders to save them.

-

I arranged them by letting them be in suitable drawer.

-

I translated Vietnamese ID Card into English.

First times doing it, I usually made mistake in translation, so I only can translate ID
Card. However, The third day of the second week, I could translate 1 folder which is
included in : ID Card, Birth Certificate and Marriage Certificate.
Although my knowledge is limited, I always try my best to complete well my
responsibility.
3. The third week:
From Monday to Thursday of the third week, my instructor guided me about visa
types. It challenged me because I haven’t accessed them before. I really don’t remember
full visa types.
At this week, I study continuously basic words relating to Law such as:
witness, civil court….
From Thursday to Saturday, my boss gave me the travelling Australia record and
he requested me to complete it. I did both translation and arrangement for this record.
4. The fourth week:
This week, everything seems easier. Every day, I still got records, arranged them,
and returned. In case of travelling documents , I will be guided to help customer prepare
well, for example : filling the form and making an appointment with Consular.
Besides, I have to answer emails, if any problems incurred relating to the customer
record, I would explain clearly.
 Through this short-time internship, I found myself lack of many skills such as:
note skill, listening skill( I usually don’t catch up with customer’s speaking
speed) , reading skill ( wide words) . I realize that practical knowledge is very
important, we must learn from the easiest thing as clips all papers together.

8

B. ANALYSE MY TOPIC

III.

General introduction about translation at my company:
- Since English is the most popular language in the world, there are many English
folders and records, paper in our life. Translation meets necessary demand; it not
only helps Vietnamese understand clearly about foreign materials but also make
everything simpler.
-

Besides, translation major also provides legality for records.

 To summary, I must say that Translation plays an important role in our life.

Visa for medical treatment still has some differences:

-

1. The case of medical treatment is usually more simple than other cases due to
the emergency. However , you also meet all Australia government’s condition
about medical treatment, for example:
Your disease isn’t in the inflective group and it doesn’t affect to health public of
Australian.

-

You have enough expense to pay for your treatment as well as your accompanying
persons.

-

No Australian citizen or permanent residence in Australia get any disadvantages
from your treatment.

-

Papua New Guinea's citizen should be in Queensland for their treatment.

-

2. In case of applying visa for medical treatment in preparing period you should
provide treatment file ( treatment method) at your current country such as:
health book. This thing help the treatment in Australia has some advantages.

3. Application form in this case is 48 M.E as the following form:
Make sure that your health information is correct and exactly in order that doctors
in Australia can consider your sickness conveniently.

12

This is the 48 M.E form :

VI.

Procedure of applying permanent entry Visa to Australia:

Making

-

Step 2: Make an appointment ( as above )

-

Step 3: Bring folder to Australia Consular in Ho Chi Minh city to apply.
2. Sponsors are spouse ( wife or husband)

This case is like the above case (Sponsors are parent). However, they also have

some differences as the following:
+ In the preparing period the applicant need not only ID card, passport, birth
certificate, judicial record, household book, CV, relative information, sponsor’s (sponsor
is wife or husband) letter and photos but also confirmation of marriage status. The
confirmation of marriage status is certified by current local of applicant which prove that
applicant has not been married with any person yet. That is the reason why that
confirmation is very important.
+ Besides, in this case, applicant must prove that they have celebrated the wedding
( such as: wedding service agreement, wedding photos, marriage certificate (if any)),
divorced confirmation ( in case of divorcing).
+ Information required in application is very detailed and complete. They must be
clear, honest and exactly. We have 2 forms for this case :

15

The one for sponsor ( wife/husband/fiancé/fiancée) : 40SP

The one for sponsor’s partner: 47SP

16

 In summary, the visa to Australia is various . However, my working is quite
short, I can’t understand all types of visas. I only can introduce some basic visas that I
had opportunity to make. Everything of visas are strange for me, so I am confused at first.
On the other hand, I must try my best to translate English paper/ folder for customer and
help them give some instruction.. I usually have difficulties in both translation and

instruction due to my limited knowledge.
I am feel pressure when work under high pressure and always face to deadline.
However, under enthusiastic guide of my director as well as my all colleagues’ help, I can
work better day by day.
One important thing, I can improve my language when I have a good environment
to learn English( information in Visa’s instruction is English )
I also have an opportunity to communicate with all fields (especially travel): law
paper, record of estate real and the all types of contract (especially Trading contract).

17

CHAPTER 3: CONCLUSION
Benefits: I found this internship brings me many advantages. I have had a chance
to discover the magic outside world; I have learnt how to use English at the best way and
applied it to my practice such as: giving an advice for Singaporean customer about the
Australia immigration process, translate all documents from Vietnamese to English to
complete the visa application forms, arrange and classify the English document papers.
This is also a great opportunity for me to expand my knowledge of the vocabularies and
to practically apply what I have learnt during my internship. In additional, it's a good time
for me to look back my studying process and get many precious experiences for myself. I
am also flexible to due with any problems in my working process.
Drawbacks: On another hands, I have to admit that I still have some drawbacks.
Firstly, listening skills is not my strength. It leads to that sometimes I misheard
something, I misunderstood customers' messages. Secondly, I am not really good at
English grammar, hence my writing is incoherent as well as not clearly. One more thing
that I should comment on is my pronunciation skill is still limited so that I made some
mistakes in consulting and that the customers misunderstood my message. The worse
thing to me is my vocabularies knowledge is limited and it leads to the writing style is not
plentiful.

 I think my university should have some translation’s classes where teachers can
teach some practical forms such as: ID card, birth certificate or marriage
certificate, practicing translation instead of studying theories.

18

Some sentences which I have collected in my working period:
