I. Phụ âm (Consonants )
Những mẫu tự sau đây chỉ biểu trng cho một âm duy nhất.

Ex: ban, fast, home
1. Mâu tự C: đợc phát âm bằng nhiều âm: /s/ /k/ / /
- Khi đợc theo sau bởi e,i,y thì c đợc đọc là /s/ eg. cent, face, cigar, rice, bicycle,..
- Khi mẫu tự c đợc theo sau bởi bất cứ mẫu tự nào ngoại trừ e,i,ythif nó thờng đợc phát âm là: /k/ eg.
cat, come, can, picture, count, computer
- Mẫu tự c còn đợc phat âm là / / eg. ocean, special, social, artificial, official,
2. Mẫu tự D: /d / , /d /
- Mẫu tự d đợc phát âm là /d/ eg. do, made,bird, dirty, down.
- D thỉnh thoảng đợc phát âm là / d / eg. soldier, graduate, schedule,education..
3. Mẫu tự G /d /, ./g/. / /
- Khi mẫu tự g đợc theo sau bởi e,i,y thì nó thờng đợc phát âm là /d / eg. village, page, age, bridge,
origin, engineer, gym
- Ngoại lệ: get, tiger, gear, hamburger, gift.
- Khi g dợc theo sau bất kì mẫu tự nào ngoài e,i,y thì nó thờng đọc nh /g/ eg. game, go, good, guest,
figure, drag, guard..
- G còn đợc phát âm / / eg. massage, regime, mirage
4. Mẫu tự N /n/, / /
- n thờng đợc phát âm là /n/ eg. no, not, natural, new, nice, necessary..
- Khi n đứng trớc mẫu tự mang âm /k/ và âm /g/ thì nó đợc phát âm là / /eg. uncle, drink, ink, trunk,
singer, longer, English, anger
5. Mẫu tự QU: /kw/, /k/
- qu thờng đợc phát âm là: /kw/ eg. question, quiet, quick, require, queen..
- thỉnh thoảng qu đợc phát âm là /k/ eg. quay, technique, antique, liquor, queue.
6. Mẫu tự S : /s/. /z/ , / /, / /
- thông thờng nó đợc phát âm là /s/ eg. see, sight, slow, cost,

- nó còn đợc phát âm là /z/ eg. has, is, because, jobs, rose,reason.
- Nó còn đợc phát âm là / / ở một số từ eg. sugar, sure..
- Nó có thể đợc đọc là / / eg., usual, pleasure
* Quy tắc phát âm mẫu tự s ở dạng động từ ngôi thứ 3 số ít, danh từ số nhiều và sở hữu cách.
7. Mẫu tự T: /t/ / / , / t /
- Thờng đợc phát âm là /t/ eg. teacher, ten, tell, until, today
- T trớc u thờng đợc phát âm là /t / eg. picture, literature, century, fiture, culture.
Và ở các từ sau: question, suggestion.
- t còn đợc phát âm là / / eg. notion, information, option, calculation, potential
8. Mẫu tự CH /t /, /k/, / /
- đợc phát âm là /t / eg. cheap, chat, child, match..
- còn dợc phát âm là: /k/ eg. christmas, school, chemistry, echo, mechanic, chorus.
- Còn đợc phát âm là / / eg.machine, chef, chute, mustache, parachute..

III. ÂM TIếT Và TRọNG ÂM (SYLLABLES & SRESS)
1. Những từ có nhiều vần, thờng đợc nhấn mạnh ở vần là ngữ căn
Ex. friendly Unfriendly Impatient
2. Những từ có hai vẫn thờng đợc nhấn vào âm đầu nếu nó là danh từ hoặc tính từ và nhấn âm thứ hai
nếu nó là động từ.
Ex. ẹnjoy happy table
3. Những từ có hai vần tận cùng bằng ANT hay ENT thờng đợc nhấn mạnh ở vần đầu.
Ex. distant current

4. Những từ có 2 vần tận cùng bằng ER thì thờng đợc nhấn mạnh ở vần đầu.
Ex. father
5. Những từ có 2 vần mà vần đầu là mẫu tự a( hay tiếp đầu ngữ a) thì luôn luôn đợc nhấn mạnh ở vần
thứ 2
Ex. again, ago, asleep
6. Những từ tận cùng bằng ETY, ITY, ION, ICAL, OUS có chủ âm ở vần liền trớc những tận cùng này.
Ex. equality election famous
7. Trong những từ có trên 3 vần ( 4 hoặc 5 vần) thì chủ âm thờng ở vần thứ 3 đếm từ cuối lên.

8. Những từ tận cùng bằng ATE, nếu là từ có 2 vần, thì chủ âm ở vần thứ nhất. Nếu là từ có 3 vần trở
lên thì chủ âm ở vần thứ 3 đếm từ cuối lên.

9. Những từ tận cùng bằng URE thờng đợc nhấn mạnh ở vần trớc tận cùng này.

10. Những chữ tận cùng bằng ADE, ESE, EE, EER,OO, OON, đợc nhấn mạnh ở ngay chính tận cùng

Một số lu ý về phát âm:
1. Cách phát âm các từ tận cùng với s/ es
- s/ es đọc là /z/ khi các từ đi sau các âm hữu thanh (trừ 3 âm: z, , d )
- s/ es đọc là /s/ khi đi sau các âm vô thanh (trù 3 âm: s, , t )
- s/ es đọc là /iz/ khi đi sau các âm : z, , d , s, , t
Các âm hữu thanh và vô thanh trong Tiếng Anh gồm:
- Hữu thanh : b, d, g, v, ,z, , d, m, n, , l, r, w + toàn bộ nguyên âm
- Vô thanh : p, t, k, f, , s, , t , h
2, Cách phát âm các từ tận cùng với ed
- Các động từ tận cùng bằng ed đợc phát âm là /d/ khi i sau c ỏc õm h u thanh (trừ âm /d/).
- Các động từ tận cùng bằng ed đợc phát âm là /t/ khi đi sau các âm vô thanh (trừ âm /t/
- Các động từ tận cùng bằng ed đợc phát âm là /id/ khi đi sau các âm /d/ và /t/.
