Isaac Newton is one of the greatest men in the history of scientists. He was born on
December 25th<sub>, 1642 in a small village in Woolthorpe in England. His father was a poor</sub>
farmer. When the boy was fourteen, his father died. Newton left school and helped his
mother on the farm. But the boy didn’t like farming, he was fond of the poetry and
mathematics. So Newton was sent to school. After he left high school, Newton studied at
Cambridge University. In 1667 he became a professor on mathematics at Cambridge
University after graduating. His greatest discovery is the law of gravitation. He died in
1727.

On March 3, 1847, Alexander Graham Bell was born in Edinburgh. He was a
Scotsman although he later emigrated, first to Canada and then to the USA in the 1870s.

In American, he worked with deaf-mutes at Boston University. Soon, Bell started
experimenting with ways of transmitting speech over a long distance. This led to the
invention of the telephone.

Bell and his assistant, Thomas Watson, conducted many experiments and finally
came up with a devide which they first introduced in 1876. Bell said on the telephone:
"Mr.Watson, come here. I want you." This was the first telephone message.

Traveling all over American, Bell demonstrated his invention to the public at
countless exhibitions, and by 1877 the first telephone was in commercial use.

Alexander Graham Bell was born in 1847 in Edinburgh, Scotland. His father was an
expert in phonetics, the study of the sounds of languages. As a boy, Alexander became
interested in sounds and speech.

In 1870 the Bells decided to emigrate to America. They lived in Boston, where
Alexander taught in school for the deaf. There he began experimenting with a machine to
help the deaf hear. While experimenting with this machine, Bell had an idea. Why not use
electricity to send the human voice from one place to another? Bell began work on a new
invention.

For years Bell and his assistant, Thomas Watson, worked day and night.They rented
rooms in a boarding house. Bell was on one floor, and Watson was on another.They tried to
send speech through a wire. Finally, on March 19, 1876, Watson heard these words very
clearly: “Mr Watson,come here. I want you”. This was the first telephone message.

telephone was invented by Alexandre Bell in 1876. Bell was born in Scotland in 1847 but

a long distance. This led to the invention of the telephone.

After inventing the telephone, Bell continued his experiments in many fields. Bell
