<b>UNIT 5: ILLITERACY</b>
<b>Câu tường thuật với các động từ "to-infinitive" </b>
<b>Loại 1. Câu tường thuật có vị ngữ (object)</b>
Đối với các động từ đặc biệt như: invite (mời), ask (hỏi), tell (kể), propose (đề nghị), urge (hối thúc),
warn (cảnh báo), order (ra lệnh), beg (van xin), remind (nhắc nhở), advise (khuyên), force (buộc),
encourage (khuyến khích), allow (cho phép)... Ta sử dụng Công thức chung:
<b>S+ V+ O + (not) TO INF.</b>
<b>1. Tường thuật một mệnh lệnh: "told s.b (not) to do sth"</b>
Direct: "Put your books away" said the teacher.
Reported: The teacher told us to put our books away.
<b>2. Tường thuật một yêu cầu: "asked sb (not) to do sth"</b>
Direct: "Please, don't smoke in this room" said the clerk.
Reported: The clerk asked me not to smoke in that room.
<b>3. Tường thuật một lời khuyên: "advised sb (not) to do sth"</b>
Direct: "If I were you, I wouldn't drink so much wine" he said.
Reported: He advised me not to drink so much wine.
<b>4. Tường thuật lời hứa: "promise to do sth"</b>

Reported: Adam promised to give me a hand, if I liked.
<b>5. Tường thuật một lời cảnh cáo: " warned sb (not) to do sth"</b>
Direct: "Don't touch that wire" he said.
Reported: He warned me not to touch that wire.
<b>6. Tường thuật một lời mời: " invited sb to do sth"</b>
Direct: " Come for dinner with us to night, will you?" Bill said.
Reported: Bill invited me to come for dinner with them that night.
<b>7. Tường thuật một lời nhắc nhở: "reminded sb to do sth"</b>
Direct: "Remember to post my letter on your way" Wendy said.
Reported: Wendy reminded me to post her letter on my way.
<b>8. Tường thuật một lời khuyến khích: "encouraged sb to do sth"</b>
Direct: " Go ahead, you must enter for the contest, Jill!" said Pam.
Reported: Pam encouraged Jill to enter for the contest.
<b>9. Tường thuật một lời nài nỉ: "begged/implored sb to do sth"</b>
Direct: "Please, do me a favor" said the beggar to Carol.
Reported: The beggar begged/ implored Carol to do him a favor.
<b>Loại 2. Câu tường thuật khơng có vị ngữ (object)</b>

<b>S+ V + To Inf</b>
Ví dụ:
<b>1. Tường thuật một lời chào mời: "offered to do sth"</b>
Direct: "Shall I help you with the housework?" said Tim to his wife.
Reported: Tim offered to help his wife with the housework
<b>2. Tường thuật lời hứa: "promise to do sth"</b>
Direct: "I'll give you a hand, if you like" said Adam.
Reported: Adam promised to give me a hand, if I liked
<b>3. Tường thuật lời từ chối: "refuse to do sth"</b>
Direct: ‘No, I won’t lend you my car”, he said
Reported: He refused to lend me his car.
<b>4. Tường thuật một lời chấp thuận: "agreed to do sth"</b>
Direct: "Ok, I'll take you to work in my carin, Sue" said Carl.
Reported: Carl agreed to take Sue to work in his car
<b>5. Tường thuật một đe dọa: "threatened to do sth"</b>
Direct: " Get out or I'll call the police" said the woman.
Reported: The woman threatened to call the police if he didn't get out
<b>6. Tường thuật lại hy vọng, nguyện vọng : "hope to do sth"</b>

Reported: They hoped to arrive in London before nightfall.
Lưu ý Khi tường thuật lại câu thi phải giảm thì, nguyên tắc giảm thì như sau:
<b>* Lấy động từ gần chủ từ nhất giảm xuống một cột.</b>
e.g: I will go...
Động từ will gần chủ từ nhất nên lấy will giảm xuống một cột thành - > would: I would go.
<b>* Ngoài ra, thời gian cũng phải giảm xuống:</b>
yesterday —> the day before/ the previous day
now —> then
to night —> that night
tomorrow —> the next day the following day
next week —> the following week
last year —> the previous year
Nơi chốn cũng giảm như sau:
here —> there
ill is —> that
these —> those

<b>Loại 1. khơng có túc từ hay giới từ ở giữa</b>

<b>S + V + Ving</b>
e.g: - Direct: Shall we go for a swim? (Chứng ta cùng đi bơi nhé.)
Reported: She suggested going for a swim (Cô ấy đề nghị đi bơi.)
- Direct: I know I am wrong. (Tôi biết tôi sai.)
Reported: He admitted being wrong. (Anh ta thú nhận là minh sai.)
- Direct: "I didn't break that vase," said Tom.
Reported: Tom denied breaking/ having broken that vase.
- Direct: "Let's have a picnic this weekend," Muad suggested.
Reported: Muad suggested having a picnic that weekend.
<b>Loại 2. Có túc từ hay giới từ ở giữa</b>
Ta sử dụng công thức chung:
<b>V (sb) + giới từ + V_ING</b>
<b>- Insist on (nài nỉ, khăng khăng)</b>
Direct: I will pay for the meal said the woman. (Tôi sẽ trả tiền cho bữa ăn, người phụ nữ nói.)
Reported: The woman insisted on pạvine for the meal (Người phụ nữ khăng khăng đòi trả tiền ăn.)
<b>- Dream of (mơ về)</b>
Direct: I desperately want to become a doctor. (Tôi rất muốn trở thành một bác sĩ. )
Reported: He dreamed of becoming a doctor. (Anh ta mơ thành bác sĩ.)
<b>- Apologize to (sb) for (xin lỗi về)</b>

Reported: The man apologized to (me) for being late. (Người đàn ơng xin lỗi (tơi) vì đến muộn.)
<b>- Accuse sb of buộc tội ai đó về </b>
Direct: You've stolen my bicycle! (Anh ta đã lấy cắp xe đạp của tôi!)
Reported: He accused me of having stolen his bicycle. (Anh ta buộc tội tôi đã ăn cắp xe đạp của anh
ta)
<b>- Prevent sb from (ngăn khơng cho ai làm gì)</b>
Direct: I can't let you use die phone. (Mẹ không thể cho phép con sử dụng điện thoại.)
Reported: My mother prevented me from using the phone. (Mẹ tôi không cho tôi dùng điện thoại.)
<b>- Congratulate sb on (chúc mừng ai về việc gì)</b>
Direct: "Congratulations! You won the game!" said the principal.
Reported: The principal congratulated the students on winning the game.
<b>- Blame sb for (đổ lỗi ai về việc gì)</b>
<b>- Blame sth on sb (đổ tội gì cho ai)</b>
<b>- Warn sb against (cảnh báo ai khơng nên làm điều gì) – lưu ý mẫu này không dùng not</b>
Direct: Don't swim too far! (Đừng bơi quá xa!)
Reported: He warned me against swimming too far. (Anh ta cảnh báo tôi đừng bơi quá xa.)
= He warned me not to swim too far
<b>- Thank sb for (Cám ơn ai về việc gì)</b>
Direct: "Thank you very much for your advice," he said.

<b>- warned sb against (doing) sth (cảnh cáo ai về)</b>
Direct: "Don't invest in that business," said my lawyer.
Reported: My lawyer warned me against investing in that business.
<b>- confessed to (doing) sth (thừa nhận làm việc gì)</b>
Direct: "It was me who stole the money," said Jack.
Reported: Jack confessed to stealing the money.
