<b>I. Liên từ</b>



<b>1.1. Both … and (vừa … vừa …)</b>


<b> - Both…and được theo sau bởi những từ hoặc cụm từ cùng loại.</b>
She’s both pretty and clever ( both + adj + and + adj)


She both dances and sings (both + verb + and + verb)
She both dances and sings (both + verb + and + verb)


<b> - Khi hai chủ ngữ được nối với nhau both….and thì động từ được chia ở số nhiều.</b>
Both my mother and my sister are here.


<b>1.2. Not only…but also (không những…..mà cịn)</b>


<b> - Not only…but also có thể đứng ngay trước từ hoặc cụm từ mà nó bổ nghĩa.</b>
Ví dụ: The place was not only cold, but also damp (adjective).


<b> - Not only…but also có thể đứng giữa câu cùng với động từ.</b>
Ví dụ: She not only sings like an angle, but also dances divinely.


<b> - Not only…but also có thể đươc đặt ở đầu mệnh đề để nhấn mạnh.</b>
Ví dụ: Not only do they need clothing, but they are also short of water.


<b> - Khi hai chủ ngữ được nối với nhau not only….but also thì động từ được chia theo chủ ngữ đứng gần</b>
động từ.


Ví dụ: Not only my parents but also my sister is here.
<b>1.3. Either…or ( …hoặc…)</b>


<b> - Either…or được dùng để nói về sự lựa chọn giữa hai khả năng (hoặc đơi khi nhiều hơn hai)</b>


Ví dụ: You can either come with me now or walk home.

<b> - Khi hai chủ ngữ được nối với nhau either…or thì động từ được chia theo chủ ngữ đứng gần động từ.</b>
Ví dụ: Either the teacher or the students are planning to come.


<b>1.4. Neither ...nor (Không…mà cũng không)</b>


<b> - Neither …nor được dùng để nối hai ý phủ định (trái với both….and) cấu trúc này khá trang trọng.</b>
Ví dụ: I neither smoke nor drink (less formal: I don’t smoke or drink).


<b> - Đơi khi có nhiều hơn hai ý được nối với nhau bởi neither…nor.</b>
Ví dụ: He neither smiled, spoke, nor looked at me.


- Neither có thể đứng đầu câu và theo sau là đảo ngữ.
Ví dụ: Neither have I seen him nor have I heard him speak.


<b> - Khi hai chủ ngữ được nối với nhau neither…nor thì động từ được chia theo chủ ngữ đứng gần động từ.</b>
Ví dụ: Neither the teacher nor students are here.


II.<b> Câu nhấn mạnh bị động (Cleft sentences in the passive)</b>
<b>a. It + is / was + Noun / pronoun (person) + who + be + P.P…</b>
Ví dụ: Fans gave that singer a lot of flowers.


→ It was that singer who was given a lot of flowers. (Chính người ca sĩ đó được tặng rất nhiều hoa)
<b>b. It + is / was + Noun (thing) + that + be + P.P…</b>


Ví dụ: People talk about this film.


→ It is this film that is talked about. (Chính bộ phim này là cái được nói đến)
Fans gave that singer a lot of flowers.



→ It was a lot of flowers that were given to that singer. (Chính nhiều hoa đã được tặng cho người ca sĩ)
<b>I. Combine the sentence with not only ... but also or both …and.</b>


1. The city suffers from air pollution. The city suffers from water pollution.(both... and)

2. He is interested in gardening. He is interested in collecting stamps.(not only... but also)
……….
3. Solar energy is free. Solar is inexhaustible. (both... and)
