<b>2. Warm up (4’): </b>


- Play the song from Unit 2 (Track 84), the students listen and sing along
<i>- Get Ps to play hangman game, using the words zoo, zebra, zip.</i>


<b>3. New lesson (25’):</b>

repeat.



<b>-</b>Make a zero with your thumb and your
<i><b>index finger and say: /z/ - zero. Encourage</b></i>
the students to do the same.


<b>- Say the letter. The students perform the</b>
action and say the letter and the word (if
they can).


<b>- Play the CD. The students listen, point to</b>
and repeat the word.


<b>- Point to the picture and have students name</b>
them.


<b>- Allow the students time to colour in the</b>
pictures of words start with the /z/ sound.
<b>- Go around the classroom providing any</b>


necessary help.


<b>Activity 3: Exercise 1 +2 in workbook</b>

<b>-</b>To consolidate the sound of the letters Vv, Ww, Xx, Yy and Zz and the
corresponding words.


<b>-</b>Learn and practice reading skills.
<b>1. Language focus: </b>


<i>Vocabulary (revision): - Van, vase, violet, violin</i>


<i>- Well, watch, window, watermelon</i>
<i>- Ox, box, taxi, six</i>



<i>- Yo-yo, yellow, yacht, yogurt</i>
<i>- Zoo, zebra, zip, zero</i>


<b>2. Skill: Reading, listening, speaking, writing</b>
<b>II. TEACHING AIDS: </b>


<b>1. Teacher: students' book, CD, phonic cards</b>

<b>2. Warm up (5’) </b>


- Choose some phonics cards from Unit 9-13.
- Divide the class into 2 groups, A and B.

<i>- Say: Stop! The 2 students holding the cards must say the name of the item.</i>
- Keep passing the first card and pass the second card to each group.



- Say: Stop! The 4 students holding the cards must say the name of the item.
- Continue with other cards.


<b>3. New lesson (24’)</b>


<b>Teacher and Students’ activities</b> <b>Content</b>
<b>Activity 1 (12’): </b>


- (book closed) Tell the students that it’s
story time.


- Ask them if they remember the previous
story. If not, the teacher can spend some
time going through it.


- Prepare phonics cards of these words:
<i>watch, yo-yo, box, van, and zebra.</i>


- Ask the students to read out the words.
- Invite students to guess what they think the


story is about.


- Ask the students to look at the book.


- Ask them questions about what they can see
in the pictures.


- Play the CD and ask the students to listen
and follow the story in their books, pointing


to the pictures of the key words.


- Play the CD again pausing for the students
to repeat.


- Ask individual students to read the story
aloud.


<b>Extension (optional)</b>


- Ask the student to close their books.


- Say incomplete sentences from the story
and ask individual students complete them.
<i>e.g. Teacher: Where is the yo-yo?</i>


<i> Student 1: The yo-yo is in the box. etc</i>
<b>Activity 2: (12’)</b>


- Point and elicit the items.


- Ask the students to choose the correct item
and draw it in the box.


- Explain to them that they can use any colour


they like to colour the item.
<b>Extension (optional):</b>


- Ask the students to choose their favourite


animal or object from the story and draw it

<b>4. Consolidation (4’):</b>


- Read the sentences in the story, pause at the key words.


- Invite the students to mime them (the watch, the yo-yo, the box, the van, the

- Have the students come to the front of the classroom and act out the story.
- Encourage them to have fun as they perform.


<b>5. Homework: Ask students to revise the story at home.</b>
