<b>STORY TIME</b>


<b>I. Objective: </b>


<b>1. Language focus:</b>


- By the end of the lesson, students will be able to consolidate the sound of the
letter Vv, Ww, Xx ,Yy and Zz and the coresponding words.


<b>2. Skill: </b>


- Listening, speaking, reading, writing.
<b>3. Attitude:</b>


- Encourage Ss to consolidate the sound of the letter Vv, Ww, Xx ,Yy and Zz and the
coresponding words


<b>II. Teaching aids: </b>


- Book, CD, phonics cards, paper including the lyrics of the chant.
<b>III. Method:</b>


- Model-Talk-Practice, individual work, pair work,group work


- Some techniques can be used: music chairs, correct teacher, act out…
<b>IV.Procedures:</b>


<b>1. Organization:</b>


- Greeting and check student attendence.

<b>2. Warm up (5’) </b>


<i><b>Activity: Guess</b></i>


- Choose some phonics cards from Units 9 – 13.
- T divides the class into 2 groups, A and B.


- T pass one card in each group (from the first row to the last row).


- Say: Stop! The 2 students holding the cards must say the name of the item.
- Keep passing the first card and pass the second card to each group.


- Say: Stop! The 4 students holding the cards must say the name of the item.

<i><b>Activity 1. Listen. Read along(8’)</b></i>


- (book closed) Tell the Ss that it’s story time.
- Ask them if they like reading stories and what
their favourite storybook character is.


- Prepare phonics cards of these word: <i>watch, yo –</i>
<i>yo, box, van, zebra.</i>



- Ask the students to read out the words


- Invite students to guess what they think the story
is about.


- Ask the students to look at the book.

- Ask them questions about what they can see in
the pictures


<i>E.g: Teacher: (pointing to the watch in picture 1) </i>
<i>Look! What’s this?</i>

- Play the CD and ask the students to listen and
follow the story in their books, pointing to the
pictures of the key words.


- Play the CD again pausing for the Ss to repeat.
- Ask individual students to read the story aloud.


<i><b>Activity 2. What’s in the box? Draw and colour </b></i>
<i><b>(8’)</b></i>



- Point and elicit the items.


- Ask the students to choose the correct item and
draw it in the box.


- Explain to them that they can use any colour they
like to colour the item.`


<i><b>Activity 1: Act Out </b><b>(4’)</b></i>


- Read the sentences in the story, pause at the key
words and invite the students to mime them (the
watch, the yo-yo, the box, the van, the zebra).
- Have the students come to the front of the
classroom and act out the story


- Encourage them to have fun as they perform
<i><b>Activity 2: Optional Story Time Activities </b><b>(6’)</b></i>


- Ask the students to work in pairs


- Ask them to change parts or all the story.
- Invite some pairs to present their own stories


<i>e.g. Student 1: I like my (violin)! etc</i>
<i><b>Activity: Draw it( 4’)</b></i>


- Ask the Ss to choose their favourite animal or
object from the story and draw it .



- Ask them to decorate it.

<i><b>- T asks the students to listen for words that begin with e.g the /Vv/ sound.</b></i>
- Ask the students to stand up when they hear words beginning with /Vv/ sound.
and sit when they hear words begin with other sound.


- Say slowly at the beginning and faster to make it more fun.

<i><b>Activity 1: What is the beginning sound? Colour. </b></i>

- Ask them to colour the corresponding letter.
- Go around the class to provide any necessary help
- Choose Ss to say the letters and the sounds aloud.

- T explains the activity.

- Then ask them to circle the ones that begin with the
same sound.

- T elicit the names of the items.
- T play the CD.


- The students listen and circle the correct picture
- Listen, pause, ask Ss to repeat the item they hear.
<i><b>Activity: Run and Touch</b><b>(6’)</b><b> </b></i>


- T divide the class into two teams, make 2 lines.
- T put up the phonics cards on the board.


- Say the word. Two students, one from each team,
race to touch the cards.


- The team with more points wins the game.
