<i><b>Cách sử dụng Do và Make</b></i>

<b>Hai từ “do”và “make” trong tiếng Anh đều có nghĩa là </b>
<b>“làm”.</b>

<b>Hai động từ “do” và “make” thường gây lung túng cho người</b>
<b>học vì cả hai đều có thể dịch là “làm” trong tiếng Việt, đôi </b>
<b>khi không biết phải chọn dùng từ nào cho đúng. Dưới đây là </b>
<b>một vài điểm cần lưu ý về hai động từ này giúp bạn đưa ra </b>
<b>phương án lựa chọn phù hợp với từng trường hợp cụ thể.</b>

<b>1. Cách dùng “do”</b>

- Dùng “do” cho các hoạt động hằng ngày, chú ý rằng những hoạt động này
thường là khơng tạo nên vật gì cụ thể, không sáng tạo nên cái mới.

do a job

- Dùng “do” khi nói “làm” một cách chung chung, khơng đề cập chính xác tên của
hoạt động. Thường đi với các từ: something, nothing, anything, everything…
I’m not doing anything today.

He does everything for his mother.
She’s doing nothing at the moment.

<b>2. Cách dùng “make”</b>

- Dùng “make” diễn tả các hoạt động tạo nên cái gì đó cụ thể mà bạn có thể chạm
vào được.

- Một số cách nói phổ biến dùng “make”:

make plans make a mistake

make an exception make noise

make arrangements make money

make a decision make an excuse

<b>---Phân biệt cách dùng giữa DO va MAKE!</b>

Hai động từ DO và MAKE đều có nghĩa là làm. Vậy xin hỏi chúng có sắc thái nghĩa khác
nhau thế nào và cách sử dụng của chúng ra sao?

Hai động từ trên đều có nghĩa là làm. Tuy nhiên, ta dùng to make (made, made) với nghĩa
là chế tạo, xây dựng (tạo ra một sản phẩm mới) còn to do (did, done) có nghĩa là làm (nói
chung). Chúng ta có thể phân biệt 2 từ này rõ hơn qua phần giải thích sau đây:

<b>DO:</b>

1. Làm, tham gia hoặc đạt được điều gì.
-Ví dụ:

What can I do for you? (= How can I help you?) (Tơi có thể làm gì giúp bạn?)
What have you done with my coat? (Anh làm gì với cái áo của tơi rồi?)
2. to do about sth: hành động để giải quyết vấn đề gì.

-Ví dụ:

• It’s a global problem. What can individuals do about it?

(Đó là một vấn đề tồn cầu. Mỗi cá nhân có thể làm gì để giải quyết vấn đề đó?)
3. to do thường đi với những thành ngữ sau:

• to do one’s best: ai đó đã làm hết sức mình.
Ví dụ: John has done his best but nothing changed.
(John đã gắng hết sức nhưng khơng có gì thay đổi cả.)
• to do exercises: làm bài tập.

Ví dụ: He is doing exercises in his room.
(Nó đang làm bài tập trong phịng.)

• That will do: (ra lệnh cho ai đừng làm hoặc nói gì nữa) Thơi đủ rồi!
• to be/ have to do with sb/ sth: có quan hệ hoặc liên quan đến ai/ cái gì.

Ví dụ: He has to do with all her problems.

(Anh ấy có liên quan đến tất cả các vấn đề của cô ấy.)

That’s done it!: (Sự mất tinh thần vì một tai nạn hoặc sự cố gì đó) Thế là toi!
Easier said than done: Nói dễ hơn làm.

<b>MAKE:</b>

1. Sản xuất, tạo ra được cái gì (thường là bằng chất liệu cụ thể nào đó).
-Ví dụ:

• Shall I make some coffee? (Tơi pha ít cà phê nhé?)

• He has made a chocolate cake? (Anh ấy vừa làm một cái bánh sơcơla.)
2. Làm phim hoặc chương trình tivi (chỉ đạo, sản xuất hoặc đóng phim).
-Ví dụ: The film was made by Goldcrest Productions.

(Bộ phim được sản xuất bởi Nhà sản xuất Goldcrest.)
3. to make thường đi với các thành ngữ sau:

to make a promise: hứa điều gì.
to make a speech: diễn thuyết.
to make an excuse: xin lỗi.
to make a mistake: phạm lỗi.

Ví dụ: He seems to be a perfect person, he makes almost no mistake. (Anh ấy khá hoàn
hảo, anh ấy hầu như chẳng phạm lỗi gì.)

to make a day/night/weekend of it: kéo dài hành động trong một khoảng thời gian nào đó.

Ví dụ: Let’s make an evening of it and catch the last train home.

(Hãy đợi cả buổi tối để bắt chuyến tàu cuối cùng.)

to make do: khắc phục điều gì đó bằng những vật có chất lượng kém hơn.
Ví dụ: We didn’t have a cupboard so we made do with boxes.
