A. THE PRESENT SIMPLE TENSE


The simple present tense in English is used to describe an action that is regular, true or normal.
We use the present tense:


<b>1. For repeated or regular actions in the present time period.</b>
 I <b>take</b> the train to the office.


 The train to Berlin <b>leaves</b> every hour.
<b>2. For facts.</b>


 A dog <b>has</b> four legs.


 We <b>come</b> from Switzerland.


<b>3. For habits.</b>


 I <b>get up</b> early every day.


 Carol <b>brushes</b> her teeth twice a day.
<b>4. For things that are always / generally true.</b>


 It <b>rains</b> a lot in winter.

<b>B. THE PRESENT CONTINUOUS TENSE</b>


<b>1.</b>

<i><b>Sử dụng</b><b>: Diễn tả một hành động</b><b>đang xảy ra ngay tại thời điểm nói</b></i>
Ví dụ: They are watching TV now/ Tim is riding his bike to school at the moment.


<i><b> Diễn tả sự việc hoặc hành động nói chung đang diễn ra nhưng khơng nhất thiết phải thực sự diễn ra</b></i>
<i><b>ngay lúc nói</b></i>


Ví dụ:b I am finding a job. <i>(Tơi đang tìm kiếm một cơng việc.)</i> ===> Khơng nhất thiết là tơi đang tìm việc ngay
tại thời điểm nói, nhưng tơi đang trong q trình tìm kiếm một cơng việc (sau khi ra trường hoặc sau khi nghỉ ở
công ty


<i><b> Diễn tả một sự việc đã được dự trù trước cho tương lai </b></i>


Ví dụ: I bought the ticket yesterday. I am flying to New York tomorrow.


<i><b>Diễn tả hành động thường xuyên lặp đi lặp lại, gây sự bực mình hay khó chịu cho người nói, thường</b></i>
<i><b>dùng trong câu có sử dụng “always”</b></i>


Ví dụ: He is always coming late. / Why are you always putting your dirty clothes on your bed?
<i><b>Dùng để diễn tả cái gì đó thay đổi, phát triển hơn:</b></i>

<b>2. Dấu hiệu nhận biết</b>


<i><b>1. Trạng từ chỉ thời gian</b></i>


 now: bây giờ


 right now: ngay bây giờ
 at the moment: lúc này
 at present: hiện tại


 at + giờ cụ thể (at 12 o’lock)


Ví dụ: I am not listening to music at the moment. / It is raining now.
<i><b>2. Trong câu có các động từ</b></i>


 Look! (Nhìn kìa!)
 Listen! (Hãy nghe này!)
 Keep silent! (Hãy im lặng!)
<i><b>Ví dụ:n Look! The train is coming. </b></i>


 <b>Look! Somebody is trying to steal that man's wallet. </b>
3. Công thức + S+ am/is/are +Ving.

- Thì hiện tại tiếp diễn (The present continuous) diễn tả :
Sự việc đang xảy ra ở thời điểm chúng ta nói:


Eg; It's raining /Who is Kate talking to on the phone?
Look! Somebody is trying to steal that man's wallet.



Sự việc đúng ở thời điểm hiện tại nhưng sẽ khơng cịn đúng về lâu dài:
Eg: I'm looking for a new apartment.


He's thinking about leaving his job.


Sự việc diễn ra ở một thời điểm xác định trong tương lai và được lên lịch và sắp xếp sẵn:
Eg: I'm meeting her at 6.30.


They aren't arriving until Tuesday.


<b>Cấu trúc</b> + S + be (am/is/are) + V-ing + (O)
_ S + be-not + V-ing + (O)


? (Từ để hỏi) + Be + S + V-ing + (O)?
Eg:


 He's thinking about leaving his job.


 They're considering making an appeal against the judgment.
 I'm not looking. My eyes are closed tightly.


 They aren't arriving until Tuesday.

Snow White was the daughter of a beautiful queen, who died when the girl (be)1 young. Her

<b>THE PAST PERFECT TENSE</b>


- <b>Thì quá khứ hoàn thành</b> dùng để diễn tả một hành động xảy ra trước một hành động khác và
cả hai hành động này đều đã xảy ra trong quá khứ. Hành động nào xảy ra trước thì dùng thì quá
khứ hồn thành. Hành động xảy ra sau thì dùng thì q khứ đơn.


- <b>Cơng thức sử dụng thì q khứ hoàn thành</b>

2. Cách phát âm đuôi “s” và “es”:

I. KHÁI NIỆM


Câu tường thuật là câu thuật lại lời nói trực tiếp.


 Lời nói trực tiếp (direct speech): là nói chính xác điều ai đó diễn đạt (cịn gọi là trích dẫn). Lời
của người nói sẽ được đặt trong dấu ngoặc kép.


Ví dụ: She said : “ The exam is difficult ”. "The exam is difficult" là lời nói trực tiếp hay câu trực ti


 Lời nói gián tiếp – câu tường thuật (indirect speech): Là thuật lại lời nói của một người khác


dưới dạng gián tiếp, khơng dùng dấu ngoặc kép.


Ví dụ: Hoa said,”I want to go home” -> Hoa said she wanted to go home là câu gián tiếp (indirect
speech)


II. CÁCH CHUYỂN CÂU TRỰC TIẾP SANG CÂU GIÁN TIẾP


Khi chuyển từ một lời nói trực tiếp sang gián tiếp khá đơn giản, chúng ta chỉ cần ghép nội dung tường
thuật ở phía sau câu nói và hạ động từ của nó xuống một cấp quá khứ, đại từ được chuyển đổi cho phù
hợp. Tuy nhiên, cần lưu ý một số vấn đề sau:


+ Nếu động từ tường thuật (reporting verb) chia ở các thì hiện tại chúng ta giữ nguyên thì (tense)
của động từ chính, đại từ chỉ định và các trạng từ chỉ nơi chốn cũng như trạng từ chỉ thời gian trong
câu trực tiếp khi chuyển sang gián tiếp.

Agatha Christie's real name was Agatha Miller. She was born in England in 1890. She married Archibald

Có hai loại mệnh đề quan hệ: mệnh đề quan hệ xác định và mệnh đề quan hệ không xác
định.


<b>1. Mệnh đề quan hệ xác định (Defining relative clauses): là mệnh đề được dùng để</b>
xác định danh từ đứng trước nó. Mệnh đề xác định là mệnh đề cần thiết cho ý nghĩa
của câu, khơng có nó câu sẽ khơng đủ nghĩa. Nó được sử dụng khi danh từ là danh từ
không xác định và khơng dùng dấu phẩy ngăn cách nó với mệnh đề chính.



Ex: The city which I visited last summer is very beautiful.
(Defining relative clause)


<b>2. Mệnh đề quan hệ không hạn định (Non-defining relative clauses): là mệnh đề</b>
cung cấp thêm thông tin về một người, một vật hoặc một sự việc đã được xác định.
Mệnh đề không xác định là mệnh đề khơng nhất thiết phải có trong câu, khơng có nó
câu vẫn đủ nghĩa. Nó được sử dụng khi danh từ là danh từ xác định và được ngăn
cách với mệnh đề chính bằng một hoặc hai dấu phẩy (,) hay dấu gạch ngang (-)

1. Nếu trong mệnh đề quan hệ có giới từ thì giới từ có thể đặt trước hoặc sau mệnh đề quan
hệ (chỉ áp dụng với whom vàwhich.)


Ex: Mr. Brown is a nice teacher. We studied with him last year.
→ Mr. Brown, with whom we studied last year, is a nice teacher.
→ Mr. Brown, whom we studied with last year, is a nice teacher.


2. <i><b>Có thể dùng which thay cho cả mệnh đề đứng trước.</b></i>

3. Ở vị trí túc từ, whom có thể được thay bằng who.


Ex: I’d like to talk to the man <i><b>whom / who</b></i> I met at your birthday party.


4. Trong mệnh đề quan hệ xác định , chúng ta có thể bỏ các đại từ quan hệ làm túc từ: whom,
<i>which.</i>


Ex: The girl you met yesterday is my close friend.
The book you lent me was very interesting.


5. Các cụm từ chỉ số lượng some of, both of, all of, neither of, many of, none of … có thể
được dùng trước whom, which vàwhose.


Ex: I have two sisters, both of whom are students.
She tried on three dresses, none of which fitted her.
