IX. FORMS OF VERBS: (Dạng của động từ)
A. Theory:
1. Gerund: (Danh động từ)
- Sau những động từ thường dùng danh động từ như:
Enjoy, finish, stop, mind, keep, keep on, consider, didcuss, remember, suggest,
practice, forgive, dislike, avoid,….
- Sau các ‘phrasal verbs’:
To be used to, to get accustomed, to look forward to, to spend, to be busy, ……
- Sau các giới từ:
About, of, with, without,…….
Ex: I enjoy working in my garden.
Notes : Một số động từ theo sau bằng danh động từ vừa bằng động từ nguyên thể có
‘to’ mà nghĩa không khác nhau: like, love, begin, start, continue, hate, can’t stand, intend,
advise, allow, recommend, permit
2. To - infinitive: ( Nguyên thể có ‘to’)
- Theo sau các động từ như:
want, intend, decide, expect, hope, mean, offer, promise, refuse, wish,….
Ex: I want to meet him
She decided to go to London
- Theo sau các tính từ: glad happy, ready, kind,……….
Ex: I’m glad to meet you
They are happy to pass the exam
- Sau các động từ (make, see, hear, watch, request,….) ở bị động
- Biểu đạt mục đích thay cho: ‘ In order to, so as to’
3. Infinitive without to: (Nguyên thể không có ‘to’).
- Sau các động từ khuyết thiếu: Can, may, could,…………
Ex: She can speak English
They could swim well
- Trong cấu trúc với: make, let, have
Ex: She made me cry

They let the students play soccer
- Trong cấu trúc với động từ là tri giác: see, hear, notice……
4. Past participle: (Quá khứ phân từ) Được dùng trong các trường hợp sau.
- Trong thì Present perfect: To have + V.p.p
- Trong câu bị động: Passive Voice: To be + V.p.p
- Trong cấu trúc: To have S.th + V.p.p
- Bắt đầu cho một ngữ phân từ mang tính bị động.
