Task 1:
Decide whether the statements are active or passive by

Remember these things:
1. The position of adverbs:
• Ex: The chairs are being carried into the house by
his children
Adverbs of place stand before By + Agent.
• Ex: This report will be read by Dr.Blake at 2pm.
Adverbs of time stand after By + Agent.
• Ex: They have been badly treated by the boss.
Adverb of manner usually stand between be and past
participle.

Ex: My leg hurts.=> can’t change into passive voice
Sentences with intransitive verbs can not change into
passive voice.

Ex: He made me do it.
- I was made to do it.
Verbs of perception like see, hear, watch, notice, and the
verbs make, know have to go with infinitive with TO
III. PRACTICE: (17 minutes)

Rewrite the following the following sentences using the
passive voice for the underlined verbs.
See book on pages 45 & 46.

IV. FURTHER PRACTICE:(10 minutes)
A potato farmer was sent to prison at just the time
when he should have been digging the ground for planting
the new crop of potatoes. He knew that his wife was not
strong enough to do the digging by herself but she could
manage to do the planting. So he wrote a letter to his wife
“Please, do not dig the potato field, I hid the money and
gun there”.
Work in groups of four make up the end of the story by
using passive voice.
V. HOMEWORK: (3minutes)
- At home, run through again the lesson to consolidate
the main grammatical points.
- Do Task 4 in handout (Rewrite the sentences).
- T calls other Ss to
repeat the answers.
- T checks with the
whole class.
- T lets Ss to play a
board game. T give
instructions:
“I divide class into team
A and team B. Each
team has 1 die, and
takes turn to roll the die
and move forward.
When you stop at one
number you will do the
correspondent sentence
in task 3. If you are
correct you can stay on
the new space, if
incorrect, you will
move back to where
you were. The winner
will be the one who can
reach the finish.
