B. TRANSLATING FROM
SPEECH
• Translating from speech is the process by which
conversational spoken phrases are instantly
translated and spoken aloud in a second language.
How it works?
First, the translator need to concentrate on listening
speech and using note-taking quickly at the same
time.
( Notice: Need to catch some important ideas and
manage ideas suitably and scientifically)
Second, the translator will convert the
passage as accurately and completely
as you can in the other language
Finally, using a tape recorder
to check performance.
THE WAY TO PRACTICE
“ TRANSLATING FROM SPEECH”
• Ask a friend or member of your family to read to
you fairly slowly a passage of about 300-400
words. Make notes and then reproduce the
passage as accurately and completely as you can
in the other language.
You can access a number of website to practice. The reading should be
as slow as required by dictation
• -> If you try your best to exercise a little time everyday, you will
improve your listening skill as well as other skill
Example
• “You see, a few years ago, I was diagnosed with
generalized anxiety and depression -- two
conditions that often go hand in hand.”
• Dịch: Bạn có thể thấy, một vài năm về trước, tơi được
chuẩn đốn là mắc chứng lo lắng và trầm cảm, hai triệu
chứng thường đi đôi với nhau
C. RADIO TRANSLATION
• Tape record short passages of speech in your
language from the local radio stations and try to
interpret as much as you can.
• Or tape-record news and science reports in
English from VOA or BBC or ABC and
reproduce these as accurately as you can in
Vietnamese
D. INTERPRETING PRACTICE
• Ask a friend or a member of your family to “act
out“ interview in which you work as the
interpreter.
• “Act out“ ???
• -> hành động, thực hành, nhập vai.
• Phỏng vấn bạn bè người thân để bạn vào vai trị
người diễn giả, trình bày, giải thích vấn đề cho họ
hiểu
E. OBSERVING HIGH-LEVEL
INTERPRETERS

such as Prime Ministers' interpreters, who appear
