Setup Requirements
For this course, the design of the classroom is based on a group of 4
students seated at a network of 4 computers: 2 servers and 2
workstations. Between the 2 servers is an external SCSI hard disk.

Upgrading to NetWare 6 / Instructor Guide

Do the following:
1.
Download the license from Novell CNI Net:
a. Access
/>b. Select the Course 3000 link.
c. In the CNI Course Materials page, select Classroom
Licenses for DA1 and DA2.
This downloads 2 folders that contain licenses for the
servers and users used in the classroom.
DA1 and DA2 each contain a license folder and an NLF file
for user licenses. The license folder contains an NFK file
and an NLF file for the server license.
The server NLF and NFK files and the user NLF file in
each folder are tied together.
For example, this means that server NLF and user NLF that
in the DA1 folder must be used together. You cannot user
the server NLF from DA1 with the user NLF from DA2.
2.
Create the DA1 license diskette:
a. Label a floppy diskette: DA1 License.
b. Copy the contents of the DA1 folder to the DA1 license
diskette.
c. Repeat this process until you have a DA1 license diskette for
each network in your classroom.
For example, a classroom of 12 students will have 3
networks so you must create 3 DA1 license diskettes.
3.
Create the DA2 license diskette:
a. Label a floppy diskette: DA2 License.

b. Copy the contents of the DA2 folder to the DA2 license
diskette.
c. Repeat this process until you have a DA2 license diskette for
each network in your classroom.
Set Up Classroom Computers
The classroom setup allows students to perform tasks using as many
of the new features of NetWare 6 as possible.
The initial state of each network in the classroom allows students to
upgrade from NetWare 5.1 to NetWare 6.
WS1 and WS2 are set up to boot Windows 2000.
After the upgrade exercise performed in Section 1, students perform
an installation exercise in Section 2. This gives them the opportunity
to do a new server installation and to install a second server into
their existing eDirectory tree.
Complete the following:

Test Each Exercise and Demonstration in Sequence

Set Up Servers

Set Up Workstations
Test Each Exercise and Demonstration in Sequence
Test the course exercises by setting up servers and workstations
using the hardware in your classroom and then performing each
exercise and demonstration.
After you validate that everything works correctly, set up the
classroom for your students.

Set Up Servers
Do the following:
1.
Install Adaptec 2940 PCI SCSI adapters in each server computer.
Make sure of the following:

The adapter in DA1 and DA2 and the external SCSI drive
must each have a unique SCSI ID. (SCSI adapters usually
have ID 7 by default, so one of them must be changed.)

The ID for the external SCSI drive must not be 0.

Termination on the external SCSI drive must be disabled.

The external SCSI drive should be in a SCSI enclosure,
have all volumes removed, and be at least 2 GB. (In some
cases, you might need to perform a low-level format. For
more information, see the instructor notes in Section 7.)

Make sure there are 2 SCSI cables for each SCSI drive.
2.
Install NetWare 5.1 on server DA1, using the following:

DOS partition: 200 MB
The NetWare 5.1 installation creates a 100 MB DOS
partition by default, so be sure to increase it to 200 MB.

Set Up Workstations
Perform the following on all workstations in the instructor’s
network and each student network.
You must have Internet access during installation of Windows 2000
so you can apply Service Pack 2 and install Internet Explorer 5.5
with SP2. Afterward, isolate your networks from the Internet again.
1.
