By adopting a few simple techniques, parents who read to their children can considerably increase their children's language development. It is surprising, but true. How parents talk to their children makes a big difference in the children's language development. If a parent encourages the child to actively respond to what the parent is reading, the child's language skills increase. A study was done with two or three-year-old children and their parents. Half of the thirty children participants were in the experimental study; the other half acted as the control group. In the experimental group, the parents were given a two-hour training session in which they were taught to ask open-ended questions rather than yes-no questions. For example, the parent should ask, "What is the doggy doing?" rather than, "Is the doggy running away?" Experimental parents were also instructed how to expand on their children's answer, how to suggest alternative possibilities, and how to praise correct answers. At the beginning of the study, the children did not differ on levels of language development, but at the end of one month, the children in the experimental group were 5.5 months ahead of the control group on a test of verbal expression and vocabulary. Nine months later, the children in the experimental group still showed an advance of 6 months over the children in the control group. 36: Parents can give great help to their children's language development by _____ them. Đọc kỹ đoạn văn sau và chọn phương án đúngcho mỗi câu từ 46 đến 50 There are many issues over computers and the education of today’s children. One concern that parents face now is how young is too young to start educating a child about computers? Parents and teachers alike have mixed opinions as to when it is appropriate and most beneficial to the child. Many preschool children learn to work with a mouse and play interactive games before they learn to write or lean their ABC’s. It is true that computers can be used as very effective tools for learning, but at what age do you begin? Some parents believe that computer education should be much like a young child taking piano or hockey lessons. They feel that if you start a child early enough you might find a computer genius. This will help develop the child’s knowledge quickly while they are still young. Parents who currently work using computers understand the importance of computer education and desire to give their children a head start. On the other hand, some parents are concerned that computers deprive children of their creativity and socialization skills. They argue that children become brainwashed and less socialized by being exposed to computers too early. Câu 46. It can help to increase your strength and energy, giving you more efficient muscles and stronger heart. But increasing your strength is not the only advantage of cycling. Because you’re not carrying the weight of your body on your feet, it’s a good form of exercise for people with painful feet or backs. However, with all forms of exercise it’s important to start slowly and build up gently. Doing too much too quickly can damage muscles that aren’t used to working. If you have any doubts about taking up cycling for health reasons, talk to your doctor and ask his/her advice. Ideally you should be cycling at least two or three times a week. For the exercise to be doing you good, you should get a little out of breath. Don’t worry that if you begin to lose your breath, it could be dangerous and there must be something wrong with your heart. This is simply not true; shortness of breath shows that the exercise is having the right effect. However, if you find you are in pain then you should stop and take a rest. 46. Education is another area of social life in which information technology is changing the way we communicate. Today's college students may not simple sit in a lecture or a library to learn about their field. Through their computers and the wonders of virtual reality they can participate in lifelike simulated experiences. Consider the following scenario of the future of education made possible through developments in information technology. For children over the age of 10, daily attendance at schools is not compulsory. Some of the older children attend school only once or twice a weekly to get tutorial support or instruction from a teacher. For the most part, pupils are encouraged to work online from home. Students should complete a minimum number of study hour per year; however, they may make up these hours by studying at home at times that suit their family schedule. They can log on early or late in the day and even join live classes in other countries. In order to ensure that each student is learning adequately, computer software will automatically monitor the number hours a week each student studies on line as well as that student's learning materials and assessment activities. Reports will be available for parents and teachers. The software can then identify the best learning activities and conditions for each individual student and generate similar activities. It can be also identify areas of week achievement and produce special programs adjusted to the students' needs. 41. What is the topic of the passage? A. Students don't have to go to school any more B. The effect of information technology on education C. Students can know about their weak aspects to focus D. Computer software will make sure students learn at home 42. How many times are children who are older than 10 required to go to school weekly? A. Three B. No time C. Once or twice D. Four 43. At the beginning of the th 19 century, women seemed to have almost no rights at all. They could not vote , or even sign a contract. Their marriages were arranged by their parents. They were once kept at home and if they were allowed to work, they were never given responsible jobs. It is strange to think that, as far as we know, most women were happy with that situation..
(71) Today the position is quite different. Women now can vote and choose their own husbands. In 1970, a law was passed to give them an equal share of property in the case of divorce, and in the same year the Equal Pay Act gave them the right to get equal payment with them for work of equal value. Yet , despite these changes, there is no doubt that there are still great differences in status between men and women. Many employers-maybe even in the majority-seem to ignore the Equal Pay Act. It is also more difficult for a woman to get a promotion than a man does. There is sex discrimination in England although it has not been so serious as it was. More and more women got out to work, earn more money, get high positions in the society, and live independently. However there are two great problems to solve. The first problem is men’s attitude. They always think that women are inferior and are the weaker sex. We do not know exactly how long it will take them to change their mind. And the other problem whish is much more difficult is women’s attitude. They should be ready to struggle to change their fate. 31. At the beginning of the 19th century, ………….. A. In those days, when a man came on a stranger, he would often automatically each for his sword with his right hand, in case he had to use the weapon to defend himself. Then, the two parties extended their right hands to show they had no weapons, and clasped them. This was the beginning of the handshake. The custom of shaking hands is not a universal one.
