ACKNOWLEDGMENT
Our class, DC19V1Q2, has 37 students with various jobs. All of us take part in this
course with different goals such as getting better jobs, practicing and improving English
skills. After 18 months of studying together in Room DC205, we have completed all the
subjects.
We are grateful to all of the teachers who have taught us during that period. It is
challenging to have flourishing results since we do not receive the dedicated teaching and
enthusiasm from all of you. In the beginning, we do not know carefully about English, still
afraid to speak, pronounce, read long texts, and write essays, even scared to learn French.
However, all teachers make obstacles turn into exciting tasks, and challenging lessons turn
into a fun time of learning with laughter and knowledge. You turn things from boring to
exciting, lame to inspiring. That is such a miracle! You not only impart knowledge in the
easiest way to understand but also guide us on studying at home. We hate going to school
in the evening, doing homework, and being in detention. But all of these are worthy as we
love being taught by the teachers. Love, sympathy, and encouragement, and sharing are
the most valuable treasure we gain from you – our teachers.
We are proud of ourselves as we are members of the family DC19V1Q2. From the
persons who are busy with work and family, from beginners who were afraid of studying at
night after a long tiring day, and from those who were lazy in the early days and often late
to school, we have changed for the better. We love, help, and encourage each other to strive
and improve themselves day by day. We have created a united, vibrant, and joyful
DC19V1Q2.
Before closing this task, we would like to quote Mr. Huu’s speech from the field
trip: “The end of our class is not the end. It will be a new beginning for all of us in the
future”. We love to send all the teachers the deepest gratitude. We wish you, teachers,
always be successful in the teaching career. Wishing joy and happiness, sending love and
warmth to you – our teachers.

Yours faithfully,

DC19V1Q2ers

FIELD TRIP REPORT
At the end of the year 2020, we had a spectacular field trip from Can Tho city to An
Giang and Kien Giang province to finish the English Studies course. It was a three-day and
two-night trip with about 400-kilometer distance in total. The field trip was not too short
or too long, but we feel so happy as we had a chance to go there together. It was an
unforgettable trip from our point of view. The trip had the following itinerary.
On the first day, we started going from Can Tho university at 4h30 to the stopover
in Chau Thanh District of An Giang Province at 6h30, and we have breakfast there, with
various delicious meals. Most of us enjoyed Hu Tieu Soup that is a popular breakfast in
the Mekong Delta. At 7h30, we continued the trip, and this time Group one begins to
manage the class from Chau Thanh District to Ba Chua Xu Temple in Chau Doc city of
An Giang Province.
Ba Chua Xu Temple is a prosperity goddess worshiped in the Mekong Delta region
as part of Vietnamese folk religions. She is a tutelary of business, health and a protector of
the Vietnamese border. She is considered prestigious and is worshipped in her temple in

Vinh Te village at the foot of Sam Mountain, An Giang Province. A three-day festival is
held in the town at the beginning of the rainy season, beginning on the twenty-third day of
the fourth lunar month, in her honor. Ba Chua Xu reached her peak of popularity in the
1990s and still entertains pilgrims every year with her responsiveness to loyal followers.

Around 8h40, we went to visit the grave of Thoai Ngoc Hau. Stories state that the
Lady of the Realm protected Thoai Ngoc Hau (1761–1829), a mandarin representing the
Vietnamese court during the early days of the south of Vietnam occupation, and was
instrumental in creating and defending the border between Vietnam and Cambodia. The
legend states that his wife, Chau Thi Te, went to Ba Chua Xu's shrine on Sam Mountain to
pray for her husband to defeat the enemy and bring peace to the land. Thoai Ngoc Hau was
able to fend off the Khmer troops, and Chau Thi Te showed her gratitude to the goddess
by rebuilding the shrine that held her. When the temple was complete, Chau Thi Te had a
festival that lasted three days. Those days became the annual date for the celebration for
Ba Chua Xu.

Then, we moved to Tra Su Melaleuca Forest from 10h40 to 11h30, and we had
lunch at 11h50 there. If you are curious about what the Mekong Delta's wetlands look like,
come to Tra Su Cajuput Forest – an ecotourism site turning green by the water ferns during
the rainy season every year. Tra Su is just about 30 kilometers southwest of Chau Doc,
covering a vast area of 850 hectares. Tra Su is an ecosystem of cajuput trees and a flooded
mangrove forest, which are the home of many flora and fauna species. The larger part of

the forest is flooded with green water in the wet season, making an incredible sight,
especially when the sunlight reaches down the water surface.
The forest is also the habitat for many colonies of water birds, bats, and even rare
and endangered animals and reptile species. There are 140 types of flora, 70 species of
birds, 11 species of animals, 25 species of reptiles, and 23 kinds of fish. To explore the
forest and watch the birds, travelers will take a boat tour offered by forest's administration,
paddled and guided by the local ladies. When you are on a boat, you will have the luxury
feeling of navigating through the carpet of green ferns so dense you cannot even see the
water surface. The rower will help you understand more about the forest, and here and
there, she will tell the point where the birds are. So get your camera ready for this particular
photoshoot. The boat will stop to take you to the cajuput forest with tall, green cajuput trees
standing in line on the dirty sidewalk. Entrance ticket costs 150,000VND per person,
including a boat fee for a round trip. You can also explore the area by motorbike, but it is
harder to see the birds and the plants by motorbike. The best time to visit is the rainy season
from September to November, which is also the wet season in Mekong Delta.

Finally, we spend two hours from Tra Su to Ha Tien; at this time, Group two
continued the work of Group one. Group two introduced the history of Ha Tien and played
music on the bus; we had a good time together. We arrived at the place at 17h00, after 30
minutes. We checked in and had dinner at the restaurant of the hotel. The hotel there is
3

near the beach, so when we finished dinner we went to the coffee shop with some friends,
others went to the night market.
On the second day, Group three received the duty to introduce some sightseeing this
morning, including Grave of Mac Cuu, Phu Dung Pagoda, and Thach Dong Cave. After
we heard about the history of Mac Cuu, we went inside the temple and lit incense at 7h45.
Mac Cuu Mausoleum is located on Mac Cuu Street, right at the foot of Binh San

Mountain, in Binh San Ward, Ha Tien town, Kien Giang province. The relic is considered
one of the most beautiful landscapes in Ha Tien and is a place of worship for the Mac
family. The person who started was Mac Cuu Doge, who publicly discovered and
developed this land 300 years ago.

Group photo at Mac Cuu Mausoleum
Then, we climbed the mountain to across Phu Dung Pagoda, a pilgrimage and
tourist destination that attracts tourists by its ancient beauty, in harmony with the
unexplained mysterious stories behind the Temple's history. The work was built by Ha
Tien Mac Thien Tu (1706-1780) around the end of the 18th century for a second princess
named Phu Cu (1720-1761) to be a monkhood.

4

Group photo at Phu Dung Pagoda
Next, we went to Thach Dong Cave at 9h00. Thach Dong Cave is a huge limestone
mountain in My Duc commune, Ha Tien, is a popular tourist destination in Kien Giang
province. Thach Dong is about 4km from Ha Tien city's center and only 3km from
Cambodia's border. Thach Dong mountain appears like the head of a majestic general
looking to the sea, but it seems peaceful with green forests if seen from the edge. At the
base of the mountain lie pristine houses, while far away are the immense golden rice fields
and sugar palm trees stretching out towards the sky. Entering Thach Dong, we can see large
and small caves formed from geological changes. Inside Thach Dong is the Tien Son
pagoda, believed to be built in the late 18th century to worship Shakyamuni Buddha and
Bodhisattva Avalokitevara. The caves’ large main entrance has stone stairs. There are also
three small gates linked to the upper part and a small gate connecting to an underground
path called the “door to hell”. On the caves' walls, there are protruding rocks that are now
home to hundreds of pigeons. The cave has many stalactites of varying shapes. Tourists
can see a three-meter stalactite at the front gate of the cave in an eagle's wing shape.

Thach Dong is also the place where Thach Sanh fairy tale came. There is a small
corner to the east of the cave, leading to “heaven”, as legend has it. Thach Sanh got through
this corner to kill the monster and rescue princess Quynh Nga and Thuy Te king's son.
Inside Thach Dong is the Tien Son pagoda, where one can pray to Shakyamuni Buddha
and Bodhisattva Thach Dong cave is the background used in various films, including Thach
Sanh Legend and Southern Land. Thach Dong is a famous tourist attraction because it was
5

chosen as the background for multiple films, including late director Do Quang Hai Au's
Thach Sanh Legend and director Nguyen Vinh Son's Southern Land.

Group photo at Thach Dong
We returned to our rooms and ate lunch at 11h00. The lunch has some seafood such
as squid, shrimp, and fish, it very fresh because this is the beach.
In the afternoon, we started the trip to Mui Nai Beach, one of the best beaches in
the Gulf of Thailand. Mui Nai beach Vietnam is six kilometers south of Cambodia's border
or a six-kilometer drive from Ha Tien, easily reached by motorbike or taxi. It is easy to
take a cab from Ha Tien to the beach, but hiring a motorbike to move there may create
much more fun. Way instruction: Follow No. 6 Street west from the junction at the end of
the To Chau Bridge. It takes you through a newly developed plot of reclaimed land at the
mouth of the Giang Thanh River. Follow So 6 to its end and turn left, continuing west until
you hit Nui Den Street.
Turn left and followed this road as it leads along the seafront, all the way around
the tip of the promontory, and north to two pretty bays: this is Mui Nai beach Vietnam.
Legend has it that in the past, this area was expansive wetlands and clouds. A fawn (baby
deer) descended from the god deer used to come here for drinking water. One day, the baby
deer was too passionate about the beautiful nature of the sea and the sky in Ha Tien, it
forgets the time of closing the forest gate and could not come back to the forest. Sadly, the
baby deer went back to the beach, lounging stroll. But the night sea was not romantic and

calm because of the strong wind season. The wind blew strong; the wave was roaring. The
little deer fell into the sea. From that on, people called this area: Mui Nai (mean the baby
deer beach). Today, you will enjoy a panoramic beach view when walking to the top of the
opposite side. The far mountain still has the shape of the little deer is drinking. Services of

6

Mui Nai beach Vietnam are very convenient. Next to the beach is the small market selling
fresh seafood such as fish, squid, shrimp, oysters.
Though the seafood is not as diverse as it on the other beaches, they are affordable
and delicious. The bay spills over with stalls selling loud-colored water rings, swimsuits,
and beach balls, beneath a canopy of lofty palms. It is also possible to stay on Mui Nai
beach. There is a string of development on Mui Nai Beach, including restaurants & minihotels, and several resorts, though they are all overpriced and poorly maintained. So
tourists should be careful in case.
We had a marvelous time at the beach, played and talked together, ate seafood,
drank some beer together, took part in some exciting activities, and took some pictures
together. At 17h00, we returned to the hotel again to prepared the gala dinner.

Group photo at Mui Nai beach
Gala Dinner started at 18h00 with three English Studies Classes from Soc Trang
an Can Tho. Three classes had dinner at the restaurant; after that, we exchanged
experiences in learning English. We sang and danced; we played the games that the
organizers offered. We felt happy together all night; it was an excellent time for two years
we studied English.

7

Group photo at Gala Dinner

On the third day, we returned to Cam Mountain from 7h30 to 10h00. We climbed
the mountain in a 16-seater car. The 710-meter Cam Mountain is the highest among That
Son's mountainous region, and it is the highest peak in the whole Mekong Delta region.
Endowed with such spectacular mountainous terrain, Cam Mountain is known as the “Da
Lat of the Mekong Delta”. Before reaching the Seven Mountain, tourists have to ascend
Ba The mountain. The mountain is approximately 200 meters above sea level, and by the
poetic Thoai Ha River, there is home to many species of monkeys, squirrels, herons, and
wild birds.

Group photo at Cam Mountain
At the top of the mountain, we enjoyed Banh Xeo, the traditional food in the south
of Vietnam, especially in the Cam Mountain. After that, we went around and lit incense at
the Maitreya Buddha statue. The atmosphere is a little bit cold; it made me feel that spring
was coming. Moreover, it is a truly relaxing and peaceful feeling after hard study. At
12h30, we went down the mountain and came back to Can Tho University. On the final
8

road, we felt emotional because everything goes too quickly, everything will be over in the
next few hours, and we did not want this to happen.
In conclusion, we enjoyed this field trip very much. The trip was awe-inspiring, and
we could hardly have anything to complain about the trip. Two years are not too long or
too short, but it was enough to make my class is more united and tighter. We are proud of
ourselves as we are members of the family DC19V1Q2. From the persons who are busy with
work and family, from beginners who were afraid of studying at night after a long tiring day,
and from those who were lazy in the early days and often late to school, we have changed
for the better. We love, help, and encourage each other to strive and improve themselves day
by day. We have created a united, vibrant, and joyful DC19V1Q2. Before closing this task,
we would like to quote Mr. Huu's speech from the field trip: “The end of our class is not
the end. It will be a new beginning for all of us in the future”. We love to send all the

teachers the deepest gratitude. We wish you, teachers, always be successful in the teaching
career. Wishing joy and happiness, sending love and warmth to you – our teachers.

DIARY OF FIELD TRIP IN AN GIANG AND KIEN GIANG PROVINCE
After nearly 18 months of studying at Can Tho University, our class organized a field
trip in the An Giang and Kien Giang provinces to end the English studies. The journey
time is 3 days 2 nights, departing from December 4, 2020, and ending on December 6,
2020.
Our itinerary starts on December 6, 2020. At exactly 4:30 a.m., a 45-seat car stopped
at the lovely Can Tho University campus to welcome our group including 1 teacher and 37
students. Just starting, the whole car sang songs together and played fun group games that
made people who were car sick like me feel comfortable and forget the hangover.
During the trip to An Giang and Kien Giang provinces this time, we have visited and
studied at the Ba Chua Xu Temple, Thoai Ngoc Hau Mausoleum, Tra Su Melaleuca Forest,
Mac Cuu Mausoleum, Phu Dung Pagoda, Thach Dong Cave, Mui Nai Beach, and Cam
Mountain.
One the first day, I started my field tour at Ba Chua Xu Temple, Thoai Ngoc Hau
Mausoleum, Tra Su Melaleuca Forest as follows:
Ba Chua Xu Temple (the local tutelary goddess) lies at the foot of Sam Mountain,
Chau Doc City, An Giang Province. It is said that the goddess is so sacred that anyone who
offers incense to her can realize all his/her wishes.
Thoai Ngoc Hau Mausoleum is located at the foot of Sam Mountain, besides some
other relic sites. Son Lang is dedicated to Nguyen Van Thoai, i.e. Thoai Ngoc Hau, a
mandarin of the Nguyen Dynasty, who was appointed by the court to come defending and

exploiting An Giang. He is a mandarin that people in An Giang were ultimately grateful
for his great dedication to the province in the years he ruled it. In particular, his greatest
work for the south was that he organized digging the two strategic canals of Thoai Ha and
Vinh Te which helped boost regional trade and transport. With its precious values, Son
Lang was recognized as a National Historic and Cultural Monument in 1997, which is now
one of the key destinations in the Sam Mountain Cultural and Historical Site.
Tra Su Melaleuca Forest Is a typical submerged forest for the west of the Hau River,
with most of the trees here being 10-year-old melaleuca trees and various rare and precious
plants and animals. Tra Su forest will surely attract you in the immense green color of the
melaleuca trees and the lake-covered lake. Turning a rowing boat through the forests. I will

10

find myself blended with nature with new experiences, opened your eyes to the new and
unique beauty of nature.

Tra Su Melaleuca Forest
On the same day, I have an evening of free time to explore the vibrant life of Ha Tien
town.
On the next day, I visited Mac Cuu Mausoleum, Phu Dung Pagoda, Thach Dong
Cave, Mui Nai Beach. In particular, I attended a meaningful gala night with teachers and
classmates as follows:
Mac Cuu Mausoleum, the founder of Ha Tien town. Both the tomb and temple were
designed by Mac Thien Tich (Mac Cuu's son) and built-in 1735-1739. Mac Cuu's temple
and tomb are some of the tourist attractions of Ha Tien.

Mac Cuu Mausoleum

11

Phu Dung Pagoda was established in the mid-18th century by Mac Thien Tich's wife,
Nguyen Thi Xuan. Her tomb and that of one of her female servants are on the hillside
behind the pagoda. Inside the main hall of the pagoda, the most remarkable statue on the
central dais is a bronze Thich Ca Buddha.
Thach Dong is a small and isolated limestone mountain located in Ha Tien Town,
beside the southwest border of Vietnam and Cambodia. This is also the place emanating
Thach Sanh fairy tale. In this story, Thach Dong Cave was the cave of the eagle. The cave
has the way deep underground and getting through to the sea, where Thach Sanh passed to
meet Thuy Te king.
In the afternoon, I went to visit and swim in Mui Nai Beach. The beach is very
beautiful and dreamlike with white sand and blue sea.
On the last day of the tour, I visited Cam Mountain and returned to Can Tho to end
the field trip. Cam Mountain known as Thien Cam Son is considered a beautiful silk
brocade. It is the highest and most grandiose mountain in the That Son area. Cam Mountain
has an altitude of 705m and has a circumference of 28,600m. With beautiful scenery, large
forests of verdant trees including many century-old trees with a vast canopy of leaves, Cam
Mountain has become an ideal eco-tourism site. A must-see attraction is the 33.60m-high
statue of Maitreya, the highest Maitreya statue in Southeast Asia. This is the largest artwork
and religious structure in the Bay Nui area. It is amazing that from any peak of the
mountains, I can see the white statue of Maitreya with a generous and holy smile sitting
amidst a green space. Especially, when visited Cam Mountain, I was able to eat banh xeo
with over 20 kinds of vegetables including medicinal plants.

The statue of Mitreya on Cam Son Mountain, the highest statue of its kind in Southeast
Asia.
The end of the field trip left a lot of beautiful memories in me and I have learned
many things from this field trip such as Mother Goddesses worship, environmental
12

protection, patriotism, culinary culture, solidarity, “when drinking water, remember its
source”, etc. Perhaps, these are priceless moments of a cherished experience. After this
journey is happiness, a good memory and of course, this is not only an opportunity for us
to study, for each person to improve ourselves, to learn from experience to work better, but
here are also wonderful moments for the whole class, because it brings joy, love and also
connects teachers and students as well as holds thirty-seven hearts closer together.

Our class, DC19V1Q2
I love to send all the teachers the deepest gratitude for helping us to have this means
the field trip.

THE REPORT ON FIELD TRIP
On December 4, 2020, our class had a very interesting experience trip in An Giang
and Kien Giang provinces in Vietnam. We traveled from December 4th to 6th, 2020.
During the trip, I went to the field to observe, give presentations, to see what I learned with
real life. Thereby, I trained my skills and strengthened the specialized knowledge I learned.
Our exciting journey goes as follows:
On the first day, at 4:30 AM, we gathered at Can Tho University, then boarded the
bus to depart for the tour. At about 9:00 am, we went to An Giang territory to visit Ba Chua
Xu Temple and Thoai Ngọc Hau mausoleum. Ba Chua Xu or Chua Xu Thanh Mau is a
famous goddess worshiped in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam. She is considered to be the royal
citadel protecting people in business and health, and she is the goddess that protects the
Vietnamese border. She is worshiped in a pagoda in Vinh Te village, at the foot of Sam

mountain, An Giang province. When people come here, people will offer her gifts to pay
homage, especially the fruit tray. Thoai Ngoc Hau whose real name is Nguyen Van Thoai
is a general of the Nguyen Dynasty in Vietnamese history. Through research, I learned that
in 52 years of service, Nguyen Van Thoai (ie Thoai Ngoc Hau) had 7 times to Siam, 2
times to Laos and 11 years of responsibility to protect Cao Mien (now Cambodia). His
grave is located in the middle, the two sides are the grave of the main lady at Chau Thi Te
and the grave of the seventh lady Truong Thi Miet. He was buried in a mausoleum at the
foot of Sam Mountain. After lunch, our group went to Tramasu Forest to visit. Tra Su
Melaleuca forest is a forest and ecotourism area located in An Giang province. This is an
interesting ecotourism destination because the flora and fauna are very diverse. It is the
diversity and richness of resources that make Tra Su Melaleuca forest become an ideal
destination for researchers and wildlife enthusiasts. Coming here, I really like because I
am integrated with nature and discovered many interesting things. Leaving An Giang
province, we depart for Ha Tien to visit. Leaving An Giang province, we depart for Ha
Tien to visit. By 5:00 pm, we were in Ha Tien. We stayed at the hotel to prepare for the
next exciting day.
On second day, 7:15 am we gathered in the car for sightseeing and study. About 15
minutes later, we were at the sight of mausoleum of Mac Cuu and Phu Dung pagoda.
Through research and field surveys, we know that the Mac Cuu mausoleum includes the
temple, the Mac Cuu mausoleum along with 59 other large and small tombs that are
relatives and stick with the Mac family's cause in the region. Ha Tien land. We come to
offer incense, visit the tomb to show the spirit of worship, the ethic of "When drinking
water, remember its source", we are deeply grateful to the people who have openly
14

enlightened the land of the South. In the morning of the same day, we went to visit Thach
Dong tourist area - one of the "Ha Tien Cross scenes" with a hidden and mysterious beauty.
Thach Dong is located in the My Duc border commune, about 4km from the center of Ha
Tien city. After lunch, in the afternoon of the same day we went to Mui Nai beach. Here,

we have been swimming, playing group activities and taking many beautiful photos to keep
memories.

On the last day of the journey, at exactly 7:15 am we were on the bus to return to An
Giang. Around 9:30, we were present at Nui Cam tourist resort in An Giang. This tourist
area is located in An Hao commune, Tinh Bien district, An Giang province. It is located in
the majestic That Son region known as the roof of the Mekong Delta. This is the resort and
entertainment area. Here, we get to see the beautiful scenery and eat delicious food. After
that, the delegation got on the bus back to Can Tho University, Can Tho city. Around 6
a.m. on December 6, 2020, we arrived in Can Tho and ended our rewarding experience.

This trip is really meaningful and very rewarding for us. Through 3 days and 2 nights,
we became more united, forged more skills and consolidated our learned knowledge, and
learned many new things. I thank the teachers for teaching us and giving us a wonderful
trip.

In my life, every trip is an experience, those experiences give me many
unforgettable memories. The field trip of the DC19V1Q2 class showed me a real bond of
friendship, learning from life experiences of people from different professions through
different shared stories.
At first, when we visits Ba Chua Xu and Lang Thoai Hau, listening to Minh Thuong
instructing and giving presentations on the history of formation and spirituality here, the
whole class was also introduced by teacher Quan Department of Biology Education Can
Tho University about some herbs and plants are grown here, I find learning some useful
knowledge about them from their therapeutic or a cultural and perceptual exploration of

Ornamer flowers. After visiting this place, the group moved to Tra Su Melaleuca Forest
which gave me very an interesting feeling, was overwhelmed by the vast Melaleuca forest
and had the opportunity to explore the forest ecosystem. Trà Sư Melaleuca forest located
in An Giang province, away from Long Xuyên city 10km. Trà Sư Melaleuca forest has
diversity flora and fauna; further more, it's the symbol of the nature beauty of An Giang.
Traveler can reach Trà Sư mangroves forest by go along road 941. Trà Sư Melaleuca
forest located on the area of 845 hectare and the buffer area of 643 hectare. It's just away
from the border of Vietnam - Cambodia 10 km. Trà Sư Melaleuca forest on the travel route
of Cấm mount, Sam mount... In Trà sư mangroves there're 140 kinds of plant, most of
plants in Trà Sư mangroves forest are melaleuca. Trà Sư mangroves forest is also home
of 11 kinds of animals, 22 kind of reptiles, 70 kind of birds, many of them are in the "red
book". The best time for visiting Trà Sư Melaleuca forest from September to February. It's
the time when the water covers alover the mangroves creates a stunning scenes. Visitor can
use motorcycle to enter the mangroves by following the trail along the surrounded dike or
hire a small boat to travel to the core of Trà Sư mangroves. After the tour, we moved back
to Ha Tien Hotel, KGiang, here at night, we have free time to explore Ha Tien night market
by cyclo, it is so interesting and enjoy fresh seafood. The first day has ended.
On the second day, we went to Mac Cuu Tomps and Phu Dung Pagoda in which
are famous for the beauty of traditional architecture, the harmony of houses, walls and
roads. Along with the ups and downs of the history, Mac Cuu ancient town still retains the
features of ancient and mysterious stories like controversy about the temple's background.
After that, we moved to Mui Nai, a beach that the business bought white sand from Phu
Quoc back here, to create an artificial white sand beach that it is very beautiful. I feel the
happiest when all member of the class takes yearbook photography, through which
members of the studying class were also working hard together. After that, we went back
to the hotel for dinner and joined the other 2 classes. Here, we had a very interesting
16

exchange, singing together, dancing together, or fleet a tug trains, it left us many

unforgettable memories.
On the third day, we moved to Lam Vien Nui Cam and Nui Cam. Nui Cam is also
known as Thien Cam Son, is located in the center of the Seven Mountains, so Nui Cam has
a wild and majestic beauty. In particular, Bo Hong Peak on Nui Cam is the highest peak in
That Son and also the highest mountain in the Mekong Delta. With a cool climate like a
version of "Da Lat" of the West, Nui Cam has become the most tourist attraction,
entertainment, and worship in An Giang; The Great Buddha Temple is also known as the
Great Buddha Temple Zen Monastery. The pagoda was built in 1912. The Maitreya
Buddha statue atop Cam Mountain in southern An Giang province, which is 33.60 metres
high, is now recognised as the largest Maitreya Buddha statue in Asia. Earlier in 2006,
these mountaintop Buddha statues were included in the Vietnam Book of Records for their
giant sizes; Van Linh Pagoda is an old and very sacred pagoda. It was built in 1929 when
it was called La. It got its present name after being completely rebuilt in 1940. The pagoda
is situated on a slope and is surrounded by a peaceful, wind – swept yard. In 1995, the
pagoda was newly designed and built according to the traditional oriental architecture,
most notably three majestic and quiet towers, placed in three different positions in front of
the street, that is: the tower The 9-storey Quan Am is more than 35m high (in the middle),
the monk of the Venerable Thich Thien Ha Quang 3 floors (on the right) and the 9-storey
bell tower with the 1.2-ton general red fruit (on the left). Van Linh has been restored many
times after being damaged by the ravages of time and wars.
During the 3 days 2 nights journey of happiness, It was such a short but specially
meaningful trip that connected us and our youth altogether.

THE FIELDTRIP DIARY
We, the students of DC19V1Q2 Class from the School of Foreign Languages of Can Tho
University were in the field trip tour from 4th to 6th December, 2020. We were altogether
37 students along with 3 teachers. The title of our tour study was “An excursion to Sacred
Lands – An Giang and Kien Giang Province”. An Giang and Kien Giang are provinces
in southern Viet Nam and are a part of Long Xuyen Quadrangle which suffers a lots of
natural disaster. They are famous for their beautiful and sacred lands that attract numerous
tourists every year. These provinces are also the lands of the Cham people, an ethnic
minority of Vietnam, so the culture is varied and makes for an interesting experience. This
journey not only gives us a great opportunity to practice English skills after 18-month
course but also allow us to experience outside a classroom environment. Especially, it is a
rare chance for us to spend more time and create unforgettable memories together. I split
my fieldtrip diary into two parts consist of my traveling itinerary, memoriable experiences
I learned after this tour.
Traveling Itinerary
After about 4 hours by the bus, we first arrived in Chau Doc Town. We had visited the
Temple of Ba Chua Xu and the Tomb of Thoai Ngoc Hau for two hours. The Lady of the
Realm is an extremely sacred and famous spiritual site in An Giang province. After that,
our class departed to Tra Su cajuput forest. Tra Su is about 30km from Chau Doc Town.
The forest covers an area of 850ha and is an important natural habitat for many colorful
birds and other rare animals. It is amazing to experience a walk on the longest bamboo
bridge in Vietnam. Our class continued to get on the bus and went to Ha Tien city, Kien
Giang province, and checked in the hotel to rest and prepare for the next exciting trip. We
went around the coastal city at night by cyclo – an old special public transportation in
Vietnam. On the second morning, the tour started with Mac Cuu Tomb, Phu Dung Pagoda,
and Thach Dong (Stone Grotto) – known as the most famous scenic places of historical
value in Ha Tien City. We explored the story of Mac Cuu legend from the local guide. Ha
Tien was founded in 1679 when Chinese-born Mac Cuu, dissatisfied with the Qing
Dynasty, traveled to Vietnam and established the town. We went around a mountain road
which was estimated at 800m from the Mac Cuu Tomb to Phu Dung Pagoda. We moved

to Thach Dong - another attraction. According to legends, the grotto is also where the hero
Thach Sanh killed a big cannibal in the famous Vietnamese tale. We continued the trip in
the early afternoon by taking beautiful and meaningful yearbooks together in Mui Nai
18

Beach. The photos have saved the memories of the DC19V1Q2 Class together during the
time we studied at Can Tho University. At 6:00 pm, we took part in the Gala Party. It was
a chance for everyone to cheer, eat, drink, talk, sing, and dance together. On the last day,
we returned to Cam Mountain, known as the highest and most grandiose mountain in the
That Son area. We went to the top of Cam Mountain by jeep, visited three temples with
gorgeous architecture here. Lunchtime became an unforgettable goodbye party. Our class
returned to Can Tho to finish a three-day trip.
Experiences
To be honest, it was much more excited than our expectations when we traveled together
to explore new things, new places, or new experiences. Firstly, some active classmates
decided to walk on Vietnam’s longest bamboo bridge, called as “Bamboo Bridge of ten
thousand steps” with a total length of over 10km instead of taking a boat because we
wanted to spend more time to explore the cajuput forest and exercise our bodies. Secondly,
this was the first time we had traveled together after the COVID-19 pandemic so everyone
had mixed feelings, both excited and nervous. Our leader always reminded all members to
wear a mask throughout the journey. Finally, diversity in our class is a good thing but it
can also be a challenge for some people to respect and value people's differences. We are
different in ages, backgrounds, educations, and jobs but a similar point is that we are here
to improve and expand our English skills, even become close friends after a long time
studying hard together. We are aware of this journey help us not only reach learning
outcomes but also expose us to new experiences.
I will always remember Mr. Huu's statement at the Gala party that “Ending class doesn't
mean everything ends. It will be a new beginning for all of us in the future”. I have special
thanks for all of you, DC19V1Q2 class.
