Unit 1: A development in the field of IT
Suggested questions:
1. What is the name of the development?
2. What is it about?
3. What is it used for? / What are its applications?
4. What are its advantages?
4. How does it influence on society?
5. What are your predictions about the future trend of this field?
The most impressive development to me so far is AI, one of the hottest technologies nowadays. Artificial
Intelligence is a part of computer sciences which focuses on making machines intelligent. Some of its
applications include electronic virtual assistant, humanoid robots, self-driving cars, facial recognition
logins… Over the years, AI has forayed into many walks of our life, benefited society and brought users a
lot of advantages. First, it helps people with improved healthcare, safer transport systems, cheaper and
longer-lasting products and services. Second, it facilitates faster access to information, education and
training. Furthermore, it makes workplace safer and open new job opportunities. The list is endless and
this technology is showing no sign of slowing down. In the future, it’s likely that AI will not only be able to
answer simple questions and commands but it will also become smarter and make major contribution to
shaping our world.
Unit 2: Your favorite application software
Suggested questions:
1. What is the name of your favorite application software?
2. By whom was it created?
3. What is it used for?
4. What benefits does it offer to the users?
5. Does it have any limitations? If any, what are they?
My favorite application software is Visual Studio Code. Visual studio code is an integrated development
environment (IDE) created by Microsoft. It is used to develop computer programs, as well
as websites, web apps, web services and mobile apps. Like other IDEs, visual studio code includes code
editor, debugger, compilers, GUI design tool… and many more features to ease the software
development process. Visual studio brings users a lot of benefits. First, it provides a smooth interface that
is easy to navigate, allowing for faster and more accurate coding. Additionally, it offers a large selection of

programming languages such as C, C++, C#, F#, Javascript, HTML, CSS,… enabling users to code with
confidence in their own languages. Visual studio code is really a complete tool; however, this system uses

a large amount of memory which can slow down your computer substantially. To sum up, despite some
small limitations, visual studio code is always one of the best code editors for coders today.
Unit 3: Your favorite website
Suggested questions:
1. What is the name of your favorite website?
2. What is its purpose?
3. What are the main features of the website? (page layout, language, background, text, sound,
animation, hyperlinks….)
4. How much traffic does the website get? (hit, pageview…)
5. What do you do when accessing that website ?
6. Why do you like it?
My favorite website is Google.com, the most-used search engine on the world wide web. Google is
written in three main languages which are Python, C and C++ and its purpose is to provide users
infomation based on their search queries. Google basically contains a search input box, various searching
options like video search, image search, web search,… The page layout is simple but user-friendly and
informative. In addition, the main background color on the website is white with blue headlines shown as
results, which makes it easy for users to follow. As the top most-visited website in the world, Google has
been visited about 62 billion times this year and it processes over 3.5 billion searches per day. Google is
really a useful website for students like me. Everyday, I access this website to search for information,
references, news, books, music, movies, … I love this website so much because it has a lot of great
features which help me a lot in studying and daily life.
Unit 4:
Topic 1: The most popular data storage and backup solution
Suggested questions:
1. What are the current storage and backup solutions?
2. What storage and backup solution is the most popular?

3. What are its special features?
4. What are the advantages of this solution?
5. What are the disadvantages of this solution?
There are a lot of solutions for data storage and backup such as SSD, HDD, CD, USB,… and the cloud
seems to be the most favorite and popular choice of many users and enterprises nowadays. Its special
features include data security, data recovery, automatic updates, … As one of the most-trendy
technologies, the cloud brings users a variety of benefits. To begin with, there are no huge costs of

hardware in cloud computing so it helps people save a lot of money on purchasing and maintaining
equipment. Second, the cloud allows mobile access to data. With just a couple of clicks, users can access
their work on-the-go, 24/7, via any devices, in any corner of the world as long as they stay connected to
the Internet. Nevertheless, this technology still remains some drawbacks. First, cloud computing systems
are Internet-based, which means access is fully dependent on Internet connection. Another bad point is
security risk. Uploading your data to the cloud means that all your information is shared to a third-party
service provider and hackers might access this information. To sum up, I still prefer the cloud for its
convenience and easy use despite some disadvantages.
Topic 2: Describe the steps of data processing
Suggested questions:
1. How many steps are there in data processing?
2. What are the names of each step?
3. What do you have to do in each step?
4. Which step is the most important?
Data processing is generally the collection and manipulation of items of data to produce meaningful
information. There are six main steps in data processing. The first step in the process is data collection.
This is the step where you gather the raw data that you want to process. The second step is data sorting
which involves creating categories to organize the data into relevant groups. The next step is coding. In
this step, we arrange and systemize the data. In the fourth step – data entry, we enter the data into a
system. Then we clean the data and double-check for faults and inconsistencies. That’s the validation part
of the process. Data tabulation is the last step in data processing stage where we format and arrange the

data so that it can be analyzed. Among the six steps, data collection, in my opinion, is the most crucial
one because the quality of data collected in gathering process will detemine the output produced.
Unit 5: Incident report

Sample:

This is an incident report by Nam, a support technician. At 14:30 on May 29th, a customer whose name is
Mary Jane called about in incident with her laptop. She had a Dell Inspiron laptop and her computer is
running Windows Vista with 2GB of Ram. The customer reported that she couldn’t install video editor
program. The screen displayed the error message ‘missing DLL files’ with no error code. The customer
has downloaded the missing DLL files from the Internet but it has no effect. I think she might have an
installation error. If that is the case, she should run system file checker. Or the video editor program is not
compatible with her current OS, I suggest upgrading the OS. Since I can’t resolve the customer’s problem
right away, I have escalated her request to tier 2.

3. What are its advantages?
4. What are its disadvantages?
5. What do you think of video conferencing?
Video conferencing is becoming more and more popular in our modern life. It allows users to
communicate with any people around the world visually. Its users can be everyone, from single users,
small and medium-sized companies to big businesses. It can be said that video conferencing has a lot of
noteworthy advantages. To begin with, it helps in reducing travel time and costs. Thanks to video
conferencing, companies can easily interact with their employees and clients without moving to the
places, which will save a lot of time and money on transportation, hotels and meals. Second, video
conferencing enhances productivity and efficiency. It allows people to discuss with others at any time,
anywhere without any delay. As a result, meetings could become much shorter and more efficient.
However, video conferencing still has several drawbacks. One of the major disadvantages of video
conferencing is technical problem which comes from software, hardware or network failure. Additionally,

sometimes video conferencing with people in other parts of the world can be difficult due to time zone
differences. In conclusion, despite some limitations, video conferencing is always one of the most
effective and useful means of communication nowadays.

Subject: Complaint about a faulty smartphone
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with a mobile phone I bought online at your store 5 days ago.

It is a Samsung Galaxy J8 smartphone with black color. I was very excited when it was shipped to my
house two days later, but very disappointed to find that the product was faulty and not the one I ordered .
Its front camera does not work and the internal memory is 128 GB, though I ordered a 256 GB phone. In
addition, it’s sometimes frozen and the monitor is getting blurry, which makes it difficult for me to see the
SMS messages clearly.
I definitely need this situation to be solved as soon as possible. I would like you to send me the smart
phone I first chose at your store. If I don’t get a quick response to my request, I hope a full refund of the
payment I’ve already made.
You can contact me at 0123 456 789 to discuss this matter further. I am looking forward to hearing from
you soon!
Yours faithfully,
