UNIT 10: OUR HOUSE IN THE FUTURE
GETTING STARTED
( MY FUTURE HOUSE)

I. Objectives:
After the lesson students need:
*Knowledge: Understand the dialogue in getting started and know the words about types
of houses in the future.
*Skills: + Listening: Listen to the conversation between Phong and Nick
+ Reading: Read the conversation and complete the table and sentences.
+ Speaking: work in pair ask and answer questions
+ Writing: Write about the house in the future
Attitude: To teach SS to love their home.
Competences: predicting what houses will be like in the future.
II. Language Focus:
1. Vocabulary: the lexical items related to “Our houses in the future”.
2. Structures:
Will + V for the future and might + V for future possibility
III. Techniques: pair work, group work, individual work, question- answer, role-play
IV. Teaching aids: text book, board, chalk, tape, pictures

Content
1. Warm-up:


- T shows some pictures about many kinds of
house on the screen
- T asks Ss to work in groups, name these kinds
of houses
- Ss discuss and hand their answers on the
board
- T corrects and gives feedback
- T leads into new lesson by asking Ss some
questions
- Ss listen and answer the questions
- T corrects and leads into new lesson
- T says: Can you image our life in the
future?
. What do you think our house will be like in
the future?. That’s the topic of this unit 10
2. Presentation:
a/ Pre-reading:
- T Shows the picture of Getting started, asks:
* Who are they? ( Nick and Phong)
* What is Phong doing? (drawing a picture)

*Do you live in a house or in an apartment?
* What appliances are there in your houses?
* What furniture does your house have?
* What does a washing machine, a dish washer, a T.V
help you?


* What is his picture of? ( of a UFO)
* This UFO is his future house. What is there

around the house?
* Nick and Phong are talking about his
future house. What tense do they use in the
conversation?
Pre-teach vocabulary
- T introduces some new words
- Ss write down on their books
- T guides Ss how to pronounce
- T reads the words first then the whole class
repeat(individually-chorally)
- T calls some Ss to read in front of the class
Checking vocabulary: Rub-out and
remember
- T reviews the structures

a/ Activity 1:
- Ask Ss to complete the table individually,
then work in groups to find out correct answers
- Ss exchange their answers with other groups
- T gives feedback
- T gets feedback, then corrects

Vocabulary:
- UFO (n): Unidentified Flying Object: đĩa bay hoặc vật
thể bay không xác định
- solar energy (n): năng lượng mặt trời
- wireless (aj) vô tuyến điện, không dây
- space (n): không gian, không trung
- appliance (n): thiết bị gia dụng trong nhà
Grammar:

Simple future:

S+ Might + bare-infà for the
future possibility

1. Listen and read:
a/ Complete the table:

b/ Activity 2:
- T asks Ss to read the words about some types
of houses then lets Ss match the words with
correct pictures.
- Get feedback and correct. Introduce some
more new words ( space houseboat, motor
home, skyscraper)
c/ Activity 3:
- T asks Ss to work in pairs to find out some
adjectives that can be used to describe the
houses.

- Ss work in pairs, ask and answer these
questions about the pictures.
- T calls some Ss to perform before class.

b/ Ask and answer questions about the pictures:

Which house do you like best?
*I like the palace
*Why?
* Because it’s big

3. Practice: Writing
- Ss do it individually- then practice asking and
answering the question.
- T calls some pairs to perform before class

3. Tick the place where you want your future house to
be located and write sentences:

4. Production: Making up the dialogue
- T asks Ss to work in pairs, make the dialogue
about their house in the future
- T supplies the outline on the board
- Ss work with a partner to fill the answers in
the blanks
- After that, Ss practice the conversation with a
partner
- T calls some pairs to practice in front of the
class
- T corrects if necessary
5. Homework:
- Learn new works by heart. - Read the
conversation again
- Do exercises + Translate the conversation in
Getting started into Vietnamese
- Prepare: Unit 10: A closer look 1
