UNIT 9 : PRESERVING THE ENVIRONMENT
Lesson 5: LISTENING
I. Objectives:
By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:
1. Knowledge:
- Vocabulary: read, write and understand key words or phrases related to environment.
- Language: use the vocabulary and structures they have learned to do the activities
required.
2. Skill(s): improve their listening skill by selective listening and comprehension
questions.
3. Attitude and competences:
- Improve such competencies as: pairwork, groupwork, communication, presentation.
- Ss will be aware of protecting the environment.
II. Preparations:
1. Teacher: handouts, laptop, video.
2. Students: book, notebook, pen …
III. Anticipated problems and solutions
- Ss may not realize the vocabulary in the tape, listen some difficult words. T has to
ready to help them.

1. Warm-up( 7 minutes- individual)


- T gives SS to watch video about the

* Pre-teaching vocabulary
Activity 1 (5 mins)
- T elicits, model 3 times, T asks Ss to
repeat in chorus then individual, T checks
meaning, stress and T gets Ss to copy down.
- Teacher may give more explanation on the
use of these words and phrases.
Activity 2: (5 mins)
This activity focuses listening for gist.
- T asks them to read the instructions and
the titles. T makes sure that Ss understand
the Activity and vocabulary.
-T checks comprehension and explain
degradation (loss or decrease of quality).
- T plays the recording twice, pausing
before and after the second listening for Ss
to read and checks their answers.
- T tells Ss to go through the answer
opinions and select the most appropriate
one. T checks answers as a class and asks

Ss explain why this is the correct choice.
Activity 3: Discussion (7mins)
This activity focuses on listening for
specific information.
- T asks Ss to read the instruction and the
words provided individually. T makes sure
that they understand the activity and the
vocabulary.
- T plays the recording again for Ss to do
the activity. T allows 2 minutes for Ss to
discuss the meaning of the words in pairs or
to look them up in a dictionary.

Activity 1:

lesson
4. Homework (1 min)
- T asks students to do homework.
- Prepare for the next lesson.

Activity 5:
1. The natural world in which people,
animals and plants live.
2. The burning of fossil fuels by factories
and motor vehicles.

3. the use of harmful chemicals in
agriculture.
4 The extinction of rare animals and
extreme floods and land erosion.
5. We should dump harmful rubbish and
chemicals at appropriate places.
6. We should replace deforestation with
forestation.
7. We should make every effort to preserve
the environment for the next generations.
