Trong tiếng Anh ước muốn chia làm ba loại:
Loại 1: Tương lai có thể xảy ra (Future possible)
Would + V
Would có thể được thay bằng Could, Might,
Had to, vv... để chỉ ước muốn về hành động
trong tương lai.
Thí dụ: He wishes that he would win the lottery
in the future.
They wish that they could make a trip around
the world next year.


Loại 2: Hiện tại không thật (Present unreal)
V-ed
Ta dùng quá khứ đơn. Riêng To Be chia là
were cho tất cả các ngôi.
Diễn tả ước muốn không thật ở hiện tại.
Thí duï: He wishes that he were in Da Lat today.
They wish that they had a big house now.


Loại 3: Quá khứ không thật (Past unreal)
Had + p.p.
Ta dùng quá khứ hoàn thành. Diễn tả ước
muốn không thật ở quá khứ.
Thí dụ: He wishes that he had been in Da Lat
yesterday.

They wish that they had had a big house last
time.


Lưu ý: Có hai dạng bài tập với WISH
1. Cho sẵn một sự kiện, yêu cầu dùng WISH viết lại
sự kiện đó. Khi viết lại ta đảm bảo hai điều kiện:
+ Ứơc ngược lại sự kiện.
+ Động từ lùi về quá khứ một bậc.
Thí dụ: He is lazy.  I wish that he were not lazy.
 I wish that he were studious/hard.
She failed in the exam.  I wish that she had not
failed in the exam.
 I wish that she had passed the exam.


Daisy regrets breaking the vase.
Wishes
 Daisy wishes she had not broken the vase.
He is unhappy because he has hurt her.
Wishes
 He wishes he had not hurt her.


2. Cho câu có thời gian rõ và yêu cầu chia động
từ trong ngoặc.
Thí dụ: He wishes that he (meet) her yesterday.
Had met (quá khứ)
They wish that they (go) on a trip to
England next year.

Would go (tương lai)
I wish that he (give) me a cone of icecream now.
Gave (hiện tại)


Use the correct tense of the verbs in brackets:
1. He wishes that he (win) the next match.
2. She wishes that he (help) her last week.
3. I wish they (visit) me three days ago.
4. You wish I (take) you to the restaurant next month.
5. Ba wishes that he (be) in Ha Noi now.
6. I wish that it (be) nice today.
7. They wish I (pay) my debt last Sunday.
8. He wishes you (be) his friend last time.
9. Mary wishes she (can) speak Italian now.
10. Mai wishes they (hold) a party next month.


Make wishes contrary to the following facts:
1. Minh is poor.
2. Jack broke the vase.
3. Viet can not speak Chinese.
4. My Vi didn’t do her homework.
5. Khanh does not play football.
6. Mai had bad marks in biology.
7. Tu Linh lost her handbag.
8. Hoa will not buy any books.
