Confused/Bewildered
Bối rối

/ Không thể nào hiểu được

1- confused [kən'fju:zd]
a- (about sth) (of a person) unable to understand something (often because it does not
seem to be logical); uncertain or unclear: không thể suy nghĩ rỏ ràng, bối rối.
I'm afraid I'm rather confused - could you explain from the beginning again?
I'm confused about what to do.
A lot of people get confused by rules and regulations.
b- (of something, a situation etc) difficult to understand; not clear: lộn xộn, không rỏ
The plans are rather confused at the moment so I don’t know what's going to happen
2- to confuse [kən'fju:z] a- (s.o.) to make it difficult for someone to understand or think
logically: làm ai bối rối,lúng túng
Do you have to use all those technical terms? They just confuse me.
b -(a situation etc.) to make it difficult to understand: đặt vào tình trạng lộn xộn,làm
đảo lộn.
You've already changed your plans twice – if you change them again you'll just confuse
things even more.
c- (s.o./sth with s.o./sth else) to think, by mistake, that one thing is another: nhầm một
người/ một vật với một người/ vật khác
I think you're confusing me with someone else - I've never met you before in my life.
I always confuse them because they look so alike.
3- confusing [kən'fju:ziη] causing you to be confused: khó hiểu
The road signs were so confusing that I didn't know which way to go.
4- confusion [kən'fju:ʒn] the feeling of being confused; a situation where everything is
confused: tình trạng bối rối, sự rối loạn.
Her explanation only added to his confusion.


There was a lot of confusion because nobody knew where to go.
5- to cause confusion: gây bối rối, lúng túng khó xử.
The changes in the law have caused a lot of confusion.
6- puzzled ['pʌzld] unable to understand or explain something, often because it seems
strange or unusual: không hiểu được, không giải thích được điều gì.
The doctor was clearly puzzled by my illness
I'm puzzled about why she decided to leave.
I'm puzzled that someone, as intelligent as yourself, should want to leave university after
only one year.
7- to puzzle ['pʌzl] (s.o.) to cause someone to be puzzled: làm cho ai phải suy nghĩ ,
làm lúng túng.
His attitude puzzles me.
8- puzzling ['pʌzliη] causing you to be puzzled : gây lúng túng , gây hoang mang.
His failure in the exam is puzzling, since he's one of the better students.


9- baffled ['bæfd] completely unable to explain or understand something, or find a
solution to it; very confused : quá khó hiểu, rất bối rối.
I was baffled by the question
Police are baffled as to who could have committed such a crime.
10-to baffle ['bæf] (s.0.) to cause someone to be baffle: làm ai bối rối, làm ai hồn
tồn khơng hiểu
His decision to leave the company baffles me
11- baffling:causing you to be baffled : gây khó hiểu, gây lúng túng.
It’s a baffling situation and I really can’t explain.
12- mixed-up confused (perhaps for emotional or social reasons) bối rối, lúng túng.
A lot of young people are mixed-up about their futures.
I'm getting mixed-up now - are you talking about Richard his brother?
He's been so mixed-up since his wife left him.
13- to mix up to confuse two things, so that you think that one thing is the other:

nhầm lẫn ai / cái gì với ai/ cái gì khác, lộn xộn
I mixed her up with someone else because I’ve got a bad memory.
Aunt Sheila is always mixing up the twins and calling them by their wrong names
I always mix those two words up and use one when I should use the other.
14 - A mix-up: a confused arrangement: tình thế lộn xộn,sự hiểu lầm
It was a mix-up - I thought we were meeting at 8 o'clock but he thought we were
meeting at 7 o'clock.
15- bewildered [bi'wildəd] completely confused and unable to understand something:
hồn tồn bối rối, khơng thể hiểu điều gì.
Don't ask me to explain the film to you - I'm as bewildered as you are.
I'm bewildered as to why she's so angry – she was perfect1y friendly this morning.
16- to bewilder [bi'wildə] (s.0.) to cause someone to be bewildered: làm (ai) bối rối,
lúng túng.
Even after ten years, his behavior still bewilders me at times.
17- bewildering [bi'wildəriη]very confusing and difficult to understand (often because
many new and different things are happening at the same time) rắc rối, làm cho người ta
hoang mang.
Her first visit to India was an exciting but bewildering experience.
18- lost: confused; unable to follow (an explanation, argument etc.): bối rối ,không thể
theo kịp(một lời giải thích, sự tranh luận…)
I’m lost - could you explain what all again, please?
I don't know what’s happening in this film - I'm totally lost.
19- mystified: very puzzled; unable to even begin to understand something because it is
so strange: thật hoang mang, thật khó hiểu.
Don't ask me why it happened - I 'm as mystified as you are
She was mystified by Dr. Jackson's comment-what could he have meant?


20- to mystify ['mistifai](s.o.) to cause someone to be mystified: làm (ai) hoang mang.
The rules of the game completely mystify me.

21- mystifying: causing you to be mystified: gây khó hiểu, gây hoang mang.
Most foreigners find the game of cricket completely mystifying.
22- mysterious [mis'tiəriəs]unable to be explained or understood: strange and causing
you to wonder: khó hiểu hoặc khơng thể giải thích, huyền bí.
It's very mysterious - she suddenly disappeared but nobody knows her where she went.
23- a mystery ['mistəri](to s.o.) something strange that cannot be explained or
understood.sự huyền bí, điều bí ẩn.
I have no idea why that happened - it's a mystery to me.
24- not to be clear (about sth ) to be confused; not to understand: bối rối, không hiểu
được
If there's anything you're not clear about, please ask me.
I’m not clear (about) what you want me to do – could explain it again?
25- to be unable to think straight: to be unable to think clearly because of confusion,
pressure, panic etc.: không thể suy nghĩ được rỏ ràng.
He asked me so many questions that I couldn't think straight.

3- For each of the sentences below, write a new sentence as similar as possible in
meaning to the original sentence, but using the word given. This word must not be
altered in any way.
