UNIT 14: WONDERS OF THE WORLD
Lesson 2: Speak and Listen
I. OBJECTIVES:
1. Aim: By the end of the lesson, ss will be able to
+ Make questions about the famous places in the world and then report
them to a partner
- Standard: Make questions and report them
- Higher: Write a passage about the places
+ Listen to the advertisement and find out the mistakes and correct them
- Standard: Listen and find out the mistakes and correct them
- Higher: Answer some questions about the advertisement
2. Knowledge:
+ Vocabulary: barrier reef(n); heritage(n); jungle(n); crystal- clear(a);
coral(n); snorkel(n); marine(a); Coconut Palm Inn.
+ Structures: The reported speech with Yes/ No questions.
+ Pronunciation:
3. Skills: Speaking, Listening and writing.
II. PREPARATION:
1. Teacher: Lesson plan, text book, cassette, tape.
2. Students:
+ Vocabulary: barrier reef(n); heritage(n); jungle(n); crystal- clear(a);
coral(n); snorkel(n); marine(a); Coconut Palm Inn.
+ Structures: The reported speech with Yes/ No questions.
III. PPROCEDURE:
1. Warm up: (4’)
List 10 famous places you know.
2. New lesson:

I. Speaking: (23’)
1. Pre - speaking:


- T introduces the lesson and guides Ss to do exerciser 1. - Listen and notice
- T asks Ss to make question about ten places as example. - Make questions
- T asks Ss to work in group to ask and answer.
- Work in group
2. While - speaking:
- T calls some Ss to give the answer
- Give the answer
- T comments and give the suggestions
- Listen to teacher.
1. Is Phong Nha cave in the Southern Viet Nam ?-. No
2. Is PETRONAS Twin Towers the tallest building in the
world ?- Yes
3. Is the Great Barrrier Reef a World Heritade Site ?- No
4. Is the Great Wall in the China in the southern of the
country ?- No
5. Is the Empire State Building USA in California ? No


6. Is Hue Citadel in an ancient town ? No.
7. Is Ha Long Bay one of the world Wonders ? Yes.
8. Is Eiffel Tower in German ? No.
9. Is Big Ben in England ? Yes
- T introduces new structure: Indirect question with If/
whether
Ex: T: Is Ha Long Bay in the Northern Viet Nam? ->
Yes, it is.
S: Is Big Ben in Paris? -> No. ( Hoa answers )
T: I asked Hoa if Ha Long Bay was in the
Northern of Viet Nam.
And she said . . . . .

Structuers
 Form : S + asked + O + if / whether + S + V .
 Usage : to report the yes/ no question.
Present simple -> past simple.
- T asks Ss to report 10 questions which they have just set
- T calls some Ss to check
- T comments
1. I asked Nam if Phong Nha cave was in Southern VN
and he said that it wasn’t.
2. I asked Hoa if PETRONAS Twin Towers was the tallest
building in the world and she said it was.
3. I asked Tuan if the Great Barrrier Reefis a World
Heritade Site and he said that it wasn’t…
II. Listening: (15’)
1. Pre – listening:
- T introduces the lesson and some vocabularies
heritage(n); jungle(n); crystal- clear(a); coral(n);
snorkel(n); marine(a); Coconut Palm Inn.
- T asks Ss to read the advertisement to get the main ideas
2. While - listening:
- T asks Ss to listen to the tape to correct the mistakes.
- T plays the tape (three times) for Ss to do the task.
- T asks Ss to compare the answers
- T calls some Ss to read the mistakes and give the
correction
- T plays the tape again and gives the correction.
Answer keys:

- Listen and notice

- Listen and repeat, then
copy down
- Read for information

- T reminds Ss the content of lesson by giving questions: - Answer the questions.
+ How many people are there in the dialogue?
+ What are they talking about?
IV. HOMEWORK:
- Ask students to learn by heart the vocabulary and structure to report
Yes-no questions.
- Have them prepare Unit 14 - Lesson 3: Read
