LESSON PLAN
Teaching Reading
English 11- Unit 13: HOBBIES
I. CLASS DESCRIPTION:
- 33 11
th
grade students, Lomonoxop High School in Hanoi.
- Level: Pre-intermediate.
II. TIME: 45m.
III. OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:
- Develop the reading skill (scan reading).
- Broaden the range of vocabulary related to the topic.
IV. ASSUMED KNOWLEDGE:
- Ss have already known some vocabulary items/ structures related to content of given
passage.
V. ANTICIPATED PROBLEMS:
- It’s possible to lack time, so teacher had better shorten the last activity.
- Ss may not know the techniques to do the tasks, so T should offer them some tips
before let them do the tasks.
VI. TEACHING AIDS: Blackboard, picture/ flashcards, textbook, handouts.

and let Ss play
a Slap the
board
- Greet the class
- Introduce the game Slap the board for the class
- Give instruction:
+ T sticks lots of words all over the board.
+ T divides Ss into two groups ( A and B) and asks
them to play at the same time: one member from
each group comes to the front of the class, and
stands at equal distance from the black board:
+ T calls out one of the words (in a loud voice),
+ The players run forward, touch and read aloud
the word on the board. The one who slaps the
correct word first gets one point for your group.
+ Ss take turns to be the representative.
+ After 5 – 6 turns the game ends.(Say)
- Model for the class to help them fully understand
how to play (Do)
- Make sure that all Ss know how to play by
asking some checking questions (Check)
- Let Ss play the game, and control the class.

- Get the whole class to count the points to decide
which group is the winner.
o List of words:
going fishing, playing the guitar, singing,
swimming, keeping fish, gardening, playing chess,
collecting stamps, reading books .
- Explain to let Ss guess the topic: HOBBIES
- Lead into the lesson.
