Brief overview of organization, action and the context in which it took place
In the 90s, the speed of development of the Internet increased rapidly, Jeffrey P. Bezos founder and CEO of Amazon.com saw the potential of selling online. Jeff started his idea by
selling books with the goal of providing customers with the fastest, most convenient service
and bringing as many benefits as possible.

In 1994, Amazon.com was born, the name of the website was named after the largest river in
the world to represent the grandeur, large scale and also because the name starts with the
letter 'A' appearing first in the list. alphabet.

From the initial business activities only related to selling books, Amazon has now expanded
into many different business areas: household appliances, sports products, CDs, care

products, pet care, … Amazon is not only limited to the US market but has expanded
internationally. Currently, Amazon has established its own websites serving 6 markets:
Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Japan and China, serving more than 17 million
consumers in 160 countries.

.

To serve the business and store goods, Amazon has built a high-tech warehouse system to
manage shipments more optimally. The items stored in the warehouse are very rich, ensuring
the diverse requirements of customers, the scientific arrangement ensures the import process,
processing orders quickly and efficiently. All activities in the warehouse are handled through
a high-tech system. Workers receive orders from the computer to pick up goods and pack
them according to the process. All are supported by robots and machines.
For those who are looking to reach out to the world market, Amazon is a potential market
with huge benefits. As a market that has been trusted by customers, shopping with unlimited
business scope, doing business on the platform created by Amazon will greatly reduce costs.

When doing business on Amazon , sellers will not have to spend money to reach customers;
can take advantage of Amazon's huge data warehouse; customers are not restricted within a
country or territory but spread around the world; using Amazon's shipping service to ship
goods to its customers, etc. One factor that cannot be ignored is revenue and profit. The
lowest revenue of a seller is achieved in the range of 10000-15000 USD/month.
Amazon (AMZN) competes directly for market share with some of the world's largest

corporations. Although Amazon started from the ground up as an online retailer, it has grown
over the decades to become the largest e-commerce company by revenue in the United States.

1. Good action
1.1 Summary of the project "Supporting employees, customers and communities
affected by covid" of Amazon Corporation

In business, there are 3 most important things to aim for: customers, employees, and finally
the community. For a company or a corporation to be successful, it is indispensable for any of
the above goals. Due to the covid pandemic, many people have lost their jobs, gone bankrupt,
social distance... Therefore, many companies and corporations have come forward to support
people. But all only partially support, for example, only support the community but forget
two equally important factors such as employees and customers. However, there is still a large
corporation that has taken a lot of action to help However, there is still a large corporation
that has taken a lot of action to help employees, customers and communities affected during
the covid pandemic.

value of more than 500 million dollars. Create more jobs for 15000 part-time and full-time
employees to carry out logistics work across the UK. In addition, Amazon also shows the
group's top concern for employees when it is expected to invest about 4 billion dollars in the

prevention of the covid pandemic. The aim is to protect the safety and health of employees by
investing in Covid 19 related initiatives to get in the hands of customers to protect employees
from infection. This cost nearly $800(blogaboutamazon 2019) million within the first half
year of those measures. Employees working at Amazon will receive a raise when they are
sick when they are placed in quarantine or when they are diagnosed with covid 19. In
addition, employees also enjoy all the benefits of health right on the job. institute at Amazon.
In addition, Amazon also sends to the employees working on the floor and conveys deep
thanks by letters.

For customers, Amazon gives customers more benefits when it comes to increasing return
times, offering a lot of things for free on Amazon. Above all, Amazon also strives to stabilize
prices compared to the market, actively protecting customers in price stabilization in cases of
price manipulation. Supporting customers to partially overcome the current crisis.Continually

1.2 Summary of activities to implement for the project "Supporting employees,
customers and communities affected by covid" of Amazon corporation
For the employees
The picture below is an article that shows us how covid 19 has had a great impact on
workers. More than 3 million workers lost their jobs in the early months of the covid
outbreak. However, Amazon kicked off the "Supporting employees affected by covid" project
by giving rewards to frontline employees and partners. All employees and partners who have
worked for Amazon for 6 months (June 1 - June 30, 2020) will receive the following
bonuses:
+500$ for all eligible full-time employees and partners
+250 dollars to all qualified employees and part-time partners
+1000 dollars for all the top companies
+3000$ for partner owners
+150$ per Amazon Flex controller with 10+ hours of activity in June (blogaboutamazon)

For employee health issues, Amazon plans to spend more than $800 million on COVID19
safety measures in the first half of the year as a result of the steps they worked quickly to
implement. This involves buying masks, hand sanitizer, thermal cameras, thermometers,
sanitizing wipes, gloves, and more handwashing stations, as well as disinfectant spraying in
buildings, COVID19 testing kits, and other goods.Amazon provided our staff with personal
protective equipment, such as masks, and performed disinfectant spraying and temperature

For the customer
Changing the hours of grocery stores to assist the vulnerable citizens
According to health officials, Whole Foods Market is altering store hours temporarily to
accommodate people classified as COVID-19's most susceptible. Customers aged 70 and up
in the United Kingdom, and 60 and up in the United States and Canada, are invited to shop
one hour before the store opens to the general public under the store's new adjusted hours (for
example, if a store's new hours are 09:00 3 20:00, customers aged 70 and up can shop at
08:00).This time has been set aside to assist these customers feel more at ease when shopping
in our stores and to guarantee that they can acquire the products they need in a less congested
atmosphere.

Improved cleanliness in our physical stores
Amazon has improved our daily cleaning methods and are adding additional nighttime

cleaning to protect customers shopping in our physical retail outlets. Amazon is continuing to
educate staff on official guidelines for maintaining healthy behaviors, and Amazon is
providing flexibility for employees who need to stay at home, as well as paid time off for
individuals diagnosed with the virus. Customers can choose from a variety of delivery
options. For example, the customer can ask the delivery staff to ring the bell and then leave
the goods while waiting for the customer to pick up the goods to avoid direct contact.

Actions for the community support the UK Government and public health
organisations

Amazon partnered with a group of firms, universities, and research institutes to help the UK
government increase COVID-19 testing capacity. Amazon is happy to be a part of this
project, and Amazon will be using our logistics network to provide test kits to people all
around the country.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) has invested $20 million to help with COVID-19 detection by
accelerating diagnostic research, innovation, and development. On COVID-19 disease
modeling work, AWS is assisting the Abdul Latif Jameel Institute for Disease and Emergency
Analytics. AWS is collaborating with the World Health Organization (WHO) to speed up
efforts to better understand the coronavirus and stop it from spreading. AWS assisted NHSX,
a joint unit of the Department of Health and Social Care, NHS England, and NHS
Improvement, in launching the COVID-19 essential public service response platform.

Thousands of youngsters throughout the UK have had over 3.5(blogaboutamazon
2019)million healthy meals delivered to their homes. Over 3.5 million nutritious meal packets
have been sent to disadvantaged children throughout the UK as a result of an extended
partnership between Magic Breakfast and Amazon. The children who get these meals are
usually given a free breakfast at school, provided by Magic Breakfast, to provide them with
the energy they require for their morning classes.
1.3 Theory < Essentials of planning= and As we can see, the act of "supporting employees, customers and communities affected by
covid 19" by Amazon corporation is based on basic theories of management, we can find 2
management principles: underlying rationale that is relevant and likely to be linked to the
above action by Amazon
Essentials of planning: In chapter 4 of the "essentials of planning" article, it is mentioned that
a company needs to take steps to come up with a plan. The first is to determine what the
current situation is. For Amazon, the current situation is facing the covid pandemic, a lot of
employees losing their jobs, social distancing. The second is to identify the goal of the plan,
here is to support employees, customers and communities affected during the pandemic. The
third is the analysis of the environment in terms of benefits and barriers. The benefit here is
that Amazon will strengthen the trust of employees and customers. Maintaining the business
during the covid epidemic situation, above all, with the support of the community. However,
the drawback here is that the cost of maintaining support is quite high, in addition to the
epidemic for frontline people is very dangerous, Amazon risks losing everything. Next is to
develop a plan and action to achieve the goal (the actions are listed above). Next is budgeting
(most actions require money). In this case Amazon has built up a support budget of $4 billion
and has used up a quarter of it. Finally, the control plan works smoothly (blogaboutamazon)

Decision making: According to the basic theory of management, decision making is divided
into two groups: programmed decision and nonprogrammed decision Traditionally,
programmed decision have been made using standard operating procedures or other
well-defined techniques. These are procedures that deal with circumstances that occur often,
such as employee requests for leave of absence. It is typically far more preferable for
managers to utilize programmed judgments in routine circumstances than making a new
decision for each comparable situation. Managers make a meaningful choice just once, when
the program is written, in programmed decisions. Following that, the software itself outlines
processes to follow in similar situations. In the case of Amazon's action, it is classified as a
non program decision. The covid pandemic is an unpredictable thing. Non-programmed
choices are rare. They are frequently haphazard, one-time judgments. Techniques like
judgment, intuition, and creativity have traditionally been used to deal with them.
1.4 An overview of the action "supporting customer staff and the community affected
by covid"
Looking at the general pattern, amazon action is a good one. Help solve employment
problems for employees thoroughly. And above all, care about customers and the community.
Towards the positive during the pandemic community. For a company or a corporation to be
successful, it is indispensable for any of the above goals. Due to the covid pandemic, many
people have lost their jobs, gone bankrupt, social distance... Therefore, many companies and
corporations have come forward to support people. But all only partially support, for
example, only support the community but forget two equally important factors such as
employees and customers. However, there is still a large corporation that has taken a lot of

2. Bad action
2.1 Company actions towards employees during the covid pandemic
The story of Amazon's fight against the coronavirus is not just one of the needs. This is also a
story about the increasingly tense relationship between the company and its employees. Over
the years, more and more news organizations have documented how Amazon's relentless
pursuit of the efficiency of its logistics centers has led to injuries and even deaths. Now these
employees are working side-by-side with colleagues who may be infected with the deadly
virus and spread the virus before they develop symptoms. If employees feel unwell but have
not yet tested positive for the coronavirus, Amazon can give them paid leave, thereby further
reducing their transportation capacity in the short term. Or it can refuse their request for as
long as possible and buy time for the company because it has launched a plan to bring in
100,000 new employees.
2.2 A brief explanation of why this action is COVID-19 proves the limitations of the workplace, which continuously pushes workers to
the point of harm in the name of efficiency. When 60% of employees stopped entering the
office for fear of death, as happened recently in a fulfillment center in Southern California,
the "efficiency" of the system was exposed as a lie. Indeed, few companies can adequately
prepare for the devastation caused by a global pandemic. However, Amazon's delivery delays
are also caused by a long time-this is also the company itself, just like the coronavirus, which
should be blamed

2.3 A discussion of the action's effects or consequences on the organization's employees
and any other relevant stakeholder groups
It’s been clear for weeks that Amazon faces an Associate in Nursing new challenge in
managing the fallout from COVID-19. With tens of innumerable Americans currently
captivated with on-line delivery for his or her food, medicine, and different essential items,
the nation’s No. one e-commerce company is buckling below redoubled demand. And
fulfillment center staff are diagnosed with the virus across the country. Amazon’s
already-restive men have escalated its efforts to win higher pay and safer operating
conditions. Among other things, employees at affected locations have merely walked off the
job.

3. Ugly action
How Amazon became a trillion dollars company: For 25 years copying the products of
merchants, selling them for less than half, forcing them to die, bankruptcy
3.1 Summary of activities to implement for the project merchants, selling them for less than half, forcing them to die, bankruptcy=
3.1 Amazon really copy third-party seller products and sell it under the AmazonBasics
name

A number of Amazon sellers say they have received notices from Amazon that their products
are counterfeit, or used, which violates regulations on the Amazon platform. In order to

reopen these merchants' accounts, Amazon typically requires sellers to provide details of the
product's manufacturer along with an invoice from the manufacturer so it can prove the
authenticity of the product. Some sellers said they gave these details to Amazon for account
recovery but ended up only letting Amazon release the exact same product version with the
same manufacturer's name. This mean that Amazon really copy third-party seller products
and sell it under the AmazonBasics name
3.2 A brief explanation of why this action is When Amazon found some products that sold well with a huge profit margin, they required
the sellers to share their ideas with Amazon, otherwise the sellers cannot continue selling
products on Amazon.com. Amazon of course says that it doesn't infringe any of the
company's copyrights.

A survey of The Wall Street Journal in 2019 shows that 4 thousand and 1 hundred fifty two
(4152) items for sale on Amazon.com Inc.’s site have been declared unsafe by agencies or are
banned by regulators. At that time, Amazon suspends their sales accounts until they can
prove the product is legit, which can cost big sellers $10,000 a day.
In the point of view of consumers, they did not know what products are fake but as they are
consumers, they found that these products have cheaper prices compared to the original
products and so they would buy the fake products with low qualities.
3.3 Theory On these days, Amazon Violated the Copyright Laws. In this situation, this action can be
called Unethical behaviour, which does not conform to generally accepted social norms.
Amazon based on other ideas to make their products and sell with half prices compared to the

original products under the name AmazonBasics and make a profit in an unethical way. On
the other hand, the sellers who have the idea to launch the original products will have to
compete with Amazon although it is their business idea. And they have to face to the fact that
they can not compete with a giant company and they have to exit the market, or they will not
have a profit for a long time and may be bankrupt..This is an unacceptable act and should be
critisized
.
3.4 A discussion of the action's effects or consequences on the organization's employees
and any other relevant stakeholder groups.
This action significantly affected Amazon Corporation.

Amazon, of course, insists that the company requires an invoice from the manufacturer when
it comes to counterfeit product feedback and does not use the information it requires about
the seller's manufacturer to produce identical products.
According to NBCNews in 2020, Jeff Bezos testified about Amazon's alleged practice of
gathering financial information from third-party vendors in order to boost the company's
private label business. Bezos intends to clarify statements in July 2019 from Nate Sutton,
denying this activity, which now perjurious.= (NBCNews, 2020). This announcement leads to the decrease in Amazon's shares.
Over the last year, politicians and authorities have questioned the size and influence of the
country's largest digital giants 4 Facebook, Amazon, Google, and Apple. Amazon is being
investigated by the Federal Trade Commission in addition to the House antitrust
subcommittee.
