ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
At the beginning, I want to thank all the An Giang University
teachers who helped me and instructed me to conclude this report.
Especially, Ms. Truong Thi Thanh Nga and Ms. Nguyen Thi Xuan Hue –
who are known for the extensive knowledge and professional ethics that
teachers impart in lecture. I am grateful for theirs support which helped
me through my anxiety before the internship. They have also listened to
and encouraged the students to go on the right direction.
I am particularly grateful for the assistance given by Ms. Luu Tung Lam

- the department manager of Campus 4 at Dong Do English Language
School. I also received a lot of consultancy from Ms. Hoa Le – Academic
Coordinator, Ms. Quynh Nhi and Ms. Vi Anh – Teachers at Dong Do
Campus 4 for their guidance with frequent supports and useful
information. Although they have had work overloaded, my colleagues
have always been able to guide me in the right direction to ensure I have
been trained as well as possible.
Additionally, I would like to thank everyone in the fourth campus for
helping me in the past. This internship was one of the most enjoyable
experience I have had. This is my first opportunity to collaborate with
great people in a technical and varied setting.
Finally, this experience has taught me that a real career is really
different than what we learn at school. During my internship, I could not
avoid mistakes, I hope that the teachers and the company can forgive me.
This is definitely one of the most unforgettable moments of my working
life. I will do my best to use the experience I have acquired to strengthen

myself in the future.

In Dong Do English Language School, each campus will usually have two
departments working together and is often considered an open space
because both departments work together in the same office due to easily
working environment (This is the situation at my internship). Two
departments in each campus are Training Department and Consultation
Department and they have a close relationship with each other.

Training Department manages academic issues such as: curriculum
TAs, etc. Consultation Department manages issues such as student tuition,
recruitment, and consultation for parents of new students.

INTRODUCTION

Training courses are an ideal method for students to gain valuable
experience. In fact, the internship experience is comparable to the training
for a new employee in the industry. Trainees will work alongside other
staff members, but not as a regular replacement. Internships are more than
just a means to obtain expertise in a particular area. The rewards of the
internship are better than you would think if you had a real internship. As
an An Giang University English major, I chose Dong Do English Center
as a place to learn and develop my English before pursuing a suitable job
in the future. Over this time, I have broadened my horizons in terms of
being a competent teacher. This is an actual possibility for me to put my
English skills to use while still gaining useful work experience.

Working time: Monday to Friday: From 14:00 to 20:15.

This report is divided into 3 parts. First, we will go over Dong Do's
general information. Second, I will describe the mechanism of my practice
at Dong Do. Next, I will summarize what I have said so far about An
Giang University and Dong Do English Language School. Finally, I will
give the conclusion for what I have mentioned above for An Giang
University as well as Dong Do English Language School.

Dong Do English Language School has focused on the learner-centered
approach due to various reasons:

First learner-centered teaching indicates explicit skill instruction. Learnercentered teachers guide students how to solve the problems, evaluate
evidence, analyze arguments, generate hypotheses – all those learning
skills are essential to master material in the discipline. Research
consistently confirms that learning skills develop faster if they are taught
explicitly along with the content.

Moreover, learner-centered teaching encourages students to reflect on
what they are learning and how they are learning it. Learner-centered
teachers talk about learning. In casual conversations, they ask students
what they are learning. In class, they may talk about their own learning.
They challenge student assumptions about learning and encourage them to
accept responsibility for decisions they make about learning. The goal is
to make students aware of themselves as learners and to make learning
skills become something the students want to develop.

The last one is that learner-centered teaching encourages collaboration. It
sees online or face-to-face learning as classroom communities of learners.
Learner-centered teachers recognize that students can learn from and with
each other. Certainly, the teacher has the expertise and an obligation to share
it, but they can learn from the students as well. Learner-centered teachers
work to develop structures that promote shared commitments to learning.

They see learning individually and collectively as the most important goal
of any education experience.

3) Structure and organization of Dong Do English Language
School:
The purpose of Dong Do English Language School is to improve English
language for children of Binh Tan District. Dong Do English Language
School selected and guided the staff and teachers carefully for effective
results. This is the structure of the school:

THE PROCESS OF MY INTERNSHIP
1) Job description:

In two months, I did many works that I had never thought of before. First,
I began my work with calling parents to inform them about compensative
class. The students will be clearly communicated to parents and
encouraged them to try harder to achieve high academic results. I
reminded the students to expand the four skills of listening, speaking,
reading and writing as well as bringing full books to class.

Secondly, data entry is the most essential job in the office. I did this job
regularly because it was familiar to me: lists of students who were absent,
evaluation of academic results, test scores, daily phone-call reports.

Next, I arranged

culum as clearly way. Moreover, I used

stapler to prepare exam questions papers for each class.

Moreover, I took attendance each classroom 2 times a week. There are 12
classrooms in total at Campus 4 and I have to take attendance every week
including which classroom is the teacher belongs to, lessons, how many
students are in class or absent. I also handed out some of the contact
books-which is a means for reporting a lesson have learnt and homework
are given-for students who need a new one.

Lastly, I worked as a teaching assistant at Dong Do English Language
School. I tutored students with weak learning skills and made up lessons
for absent students. During study time, I helped them do their homework,
gave new lessons and reminded them to copy vocabulary. I will collect
their work book and contact book of each class one time a week to check
whether students do the homework or not and whether their notebooks are
checked and signed daily by the parents.

2) Working assignment:
During my internship at Campus 4 in Dong Do English Language School,
I was assigned as a learning coordinator and teaching assistant.

3) Weekly schedule:
During seven weeks at Dong Do English Language School, I was assigned
many interesting things that I had never thought of before. The first one is
being an academic coordinator. It means that I have to call parents to
inform their childrens academic performance, enter necessary information
into the computer such as schedule, exam results, test scores and arrange
records for teachers. The next job is to be a teaching assistant at night
shift. With this position, I had a lot of work to do including teaching,
taking attendance , keeping the students quiet when teachers are not there.

14 | P a g e

Internship Report

Instructor: MA. Nguyen Thi Xuan Hue

Although I have never thought about this job, Dong Do English Language
School showed me the highlight of an academic coordinator. I worked at
Dong Do English Language School for seven weeks with five days per
week. During my internship, I was assigned office tasks such as calling
parents, typing and organizing documents.

4) Advantages and Disadvantages:

ž Benefits:
After the internship, I have gained many experiences and turned them into
my strengths. First of all, I am a punctual person so I always make sure
that I can be able to do everything on time such as coming to work or
finishing my report as well as I can. Moreover, I always try to learn as
much as I can. I did not have difficulties in learning computer and
communicating by phone skills to gain the best achievement.

However, I also realized that I had lots of weaknesses and I had to learn a
lot to strengthen those weaknesses. At first, I was so shy and reserved
person so it was very hard for me to communicate with all the people at
workplace and this caused me many troubles in dealing with all the work
at Dong Do English Language School. Therefore, I know that I have to be
more open and self-confident when talking to colleagues, and I cannot be
afraid to ask anything I do not know because they will be eager to help me
so that I can learn more lessons and experiences at workplace.

ž Drawbacks :
- Still making many grammatical errors.

In my daily work, I have to use English quite a lot, but I realize that my
grammar is still quite weak. I often make grammatical mistakes. Although
this is not too influential when communicating, this is one of the serious
problems that I need to fix right away.

- Not much practical experience on the method of learning English.

Despite working as well as viewing a lot of documents in the office.
However, in the past two months, the practical experience with actual
process is not much. Most of the time I spent time with my colleagues. I
hope next time I can experience it more directly.

- It takes more time to understand the company's culture.

I practiced in the department, one of the very enthusiastic and dynamic
departments. However, because I have only been working for 2 months, I
still need time to learn about working style and working culture at the
office. However, during the internship I have been helped and advised a
lot, so I think in the future I will get used to this working environment.

16 | P a g e

5) The causes of these disadvantages and solutions:
The main cause of these above reasons is the lack of time to raise knowledge
and ability as well as time to practice in class before training at this field. In
reality, what I have studied is so different. So, when I access to real work
environment, I must face many problems. Moreover, I am not mature enough
and lack experiences when taking part in a new job. In order to overcome
these weakness, I think I should have more time to gain real works and soft
skills such as problem solving skills, etc. To sum up, my major is English, I
did not have much experience in this job, it is better for me to join in a
professional course if I want to achieve my goals after the graduation.

6) Things the trainee learnt during the internship:
Since finishing my internship at Dong Do Language School, I assumed that I
had obtained several updates from my work as an instructional planner and a
coaching assistant. First, contact is necessary for success. You must interact
with your staff to receive extra knowledge about the training, how things are
completed, and what they need from you. It is important to improve your
communication abilities because they can help you a lot in working and
studying, allow you to gain more information about your future career path.

The next advantage I have learned from my internship is that getting
programming expertise is helpful even while working outside of the
workplace. Computers contribute significantly in any and every workplace,
but before applying for a position, be clear that you have ample knowledge

17 | P a g e

Internship Report

Instructor: MA. Nguyen Thi Xuan Hue

of computers and how to deal with them so that you are no longer anxious
or traumatic when dealing with computer systems in every workplace.

I discovered a method to educate children and assist them with their lack
of guidance or other skills with which they are weak. If you want to
develop your coaching skills, you can love working with students, know
what they need to so you can assist them when they're learning.
Furthermore, you should be careful in coping with teaching and guiding
children because sometimes the children do not want to focus and make
the magnificence get noisy; you have to address this issue and lead them
to concentrate and keep the magnificence calm.

Furthermore, training in Dong Do English Language School is a chance to
have responsibility for my career and especially how to behave with others.
What is more, I become more confident and consistent when facing with
problems and explaining what I no longer feel embarrassed when answering
questions from parents. In addition, the time of teaching for junior, primary,
secondary school helps me to understand clearly about student psychology.

Last but not least, it is the spirit of learning. I have experienced many
situations, which are difficult to meet in the 4 years of university. Therefore,
I have learned many lessons and can solve problems if I meet again.

Instructor: MA. Nguyen Thi Xuan Hue

CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION
I. Conclusion:
After nearly 6 years of operation and development, Dong Do English
School has achieved goals in the education of English as well as become
one of the best choices for parents for English practice and creativity for
children in Binh Tan District.

The knowledge, experience and skills acquired through 2 months of
internship complimented and enhanced the education I obtained in the
university. From now, I have a basic overview of how things work in a
professional working environment. It is also giving me a new direction,
also a clear picture about my career path in the future. I really appreciated
the chance to become a member of Dong Do English Language School.

Through what I have experienced at the company, I have made this report
to give some issues which in my point of view will become an issue
should be solved in Dong Do. I hope it will be a small contribution to the
growth and success of the company in the near future.

Once again, I would like to express my gratitude to Ms. Luu Tung Lam
and all colleagues for all the support and all the valuable information
during my internship to help me finalize this report.
