I. Objectives: By the end of the lesson , ps will be able to: read for specific
information. And learn about the rates of illiteracy in Vietnam in 2000.
Language focus: Some structures used when talking about the campaign in 2000.
Skills: Reading and guess meaning of words or phrases based on the context.
II. Method and Tecniques:
- Communicative approach ,
- gap-filling multiple choice, discussion, work group,
pair work,
III. Teaching aids: Some pictures of campaigns for illiteracy eradication.
Blackboard, chalk, worksheets

I.WARM
-

UP (4’)

Teacher shows students the picture on
page 56 (Teacher sticks the pictures on
the blackboard) and asks students some
questions
1.Where do you think the class is?

-Students work in groups and give the


answers.

- In a poor remote/ mountainous area
- The children at different ages/
2.What do you think of the people in the
class?

3. What kinds of textbooks are they
learning? 4 .Who is the teacher?
5. .What are they learning?
BEFORE YOU READ: (8’)
T asks ss to describe the picture
T calls some ss to describe the picture.






Teacher gives brief introduction: “ Today
we will read the passage about a
campaign for illiteracy eradication”
Teacher explains some new words as well
structures in need.
.WHILE you READ ( 20’)
Teacher and students discuss and elicit
some language notes
Teacher asks students to choose either a
or b to complete the sentences below.
Teacher asks students to read the text

Pairwork.
This photo shows a scene of a
classroom in a poor mountainous
area. The students are children of
different ages. They are learning the
textbooks for grade one and they are
taught by an army man. It seems that
the students in the classroom are
illiterate people. They are now
learning how to read and write.






-Ss work in groups and do the
exercises
1.TASK 1.
Find the Vietnamese equivalent to the
following expressions.

Teacher asks students to work in groups,

and do task 1.
After a time limit of 3, call on some
students to give the answers.
Teacher invites class opinion and gives
feedback.
T gets Ss to read the task requirement and
do the task individually and then find a
peer to compare their answer with. If Ss
cannot do the task without reading the
passage again, T might want to give them
some time to re—read the passage.
T might also want to give Ss some
strategies to find the main idea of the
passage:
T gives feedback and the correct answer:

C are too specific
After 3 minutes, teacher asks one or two
students give the correct answer.
Teacher walks around the class to
observe Students’ work and offers help
when necessary.

discussing these questions.

2. What do you think we should do to
help them read and write?

Teacher assigns homework.
