- Sts make examples.
1. The present simple tense – to talk about the general
truth.
Eg: - Lan is my best friend.
- The earth goes around the sun.
2.Reported speech.
a. Commands & requests.
- S asked/ offered/ suggested/ advised (not) to
do
Eg: “Don’t talk during the lesson” the teacher asked.
" The teacher asked us not to talk during the lesson.
b. Advice.
- S + should (not)+ bare infinitive
- S advised O (not) to – infinitive
Eg: - “You should stay do your homework at home.” She
said to me.
" She advised me to do my homework at home.
- “You shouldn’t stay up late” she said to me.
" She said I should not stay up late.
4. Be going to : to talk about intentions.
Eg: What are you going to do tomorrow?
5. Modals: must, have to, should, ought to
- must/ have to: show obligation
- should/ ought to: used for advice.
Eg: - Children have to obey their parents.
- You ought to go to work by bike to keep the
environment clean.

c. “Do your homework before you go to school” the
teacher said.
"The teacher told us to do our homework before going
to school.
d. “You should revise your lesson well for the exam” his
friend said to him.

S + like/ hate, dislike, enjoy, love, be fond of, be
interested in + V- ing.
Eg: - He enjoys playing badminton.

4. The present perfect tense.

- for + a period of time.
Eg: - They have lived here for 10 years.
- He has worked with the computer since early
morning.

In the country of China, there is a wall that is
1,500 miles long . It is called the Great wall of

and mountains. Every inch of this 1,500 – mile wall
was made by hand.
The Great Wall of China was made many, many
years ago. The people of China made it to keep out
their enemies. There are watch towers along the
way. The wall is made of brick and earth it is high
and wide on top. People can walk along the top as if
it were a road.
It is said that it took ten years to build one part of
this coall. No other sefense line has ever been made
as long as the Great Wall of China.

1. The past progressive tense.
* Form:
(+) S + was/ were + V-ing
(-) S + was/ were + not + V-ing

Eg: I was eating dinner at 7.30 yesterday evening.
He was driving home at 5.00 yesterday afternoon.
